Measles outbreak stirs up debate

According to the Mayo Clinic Measles signs and symptoms appear 10 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS INCLUDE: n Fever n Dry cough n Runny nose n Sore throat n Inflamed eyes (conjunctivitis) n Tiny white spots with bluish-white centers on a red background found inside the mouth on the inner lining of the cheek n A skin rash made up of large, flat blotches that often flow into one another.

The national measles outbreak has ignited a firestorm debate over immunization, but while most Newton County parents appear to strongly support vaccination, few of those who spoke with The News were ready to do away with personal choice when it comes to immunization. u See MEASLES, 8A

An investigation by the Covington Police Department led to the arrest of Teresa Lynn Knight in a case that affected more than 100 people and three counties. CPD took on the forgery case from the Big EZ regarding a stolen check from a local law office that was cashed at their location earlier this week. Det. Kara Hipps was assigned the case, and her investigation led her to Knight, of Covington. During Hipps investigation she discovered that the same female cashed additional checks earlier that week at area banks. Once the suspect was identified, Detective Hipps obtained warrants for two counts of forgery and two counts of ID Fraud. On Feb. 6, Knight was located and arrested at the Shell Station on Hwy 36.
