From September 2015, the new GLA Non Road Mobile Machinery regulations come into force, imposing mandatory emission standards for on Site equipment throughout Greater London. GreenUrban’s ecotrap, ecotrap+, ecoNOx and ecoNOxt products are designed and adapted

Commitment to Excellence
Save Energy & Money with Easytherm Solutions UK is pleased to present its highly esteemed Commitment to Excellence profile to Easytherm Ltd. As a relatively new company, Easytherm was founded three years ago by founder and technical director Steve Lord. He decided to set up his own enterprise in a bid to step off the corporate merry-go-round (after working in the hardware and software development industry for numerous years) to follow his professional interests more closely. Easytherm is a manufacturer and retailer of ‘smart’ heating and hot water controllers, which are effectively an environmental and cost-effective alternative to more traditional methods and systems. Dubbed Easytherm®, this intelligent networked boiler programmer is a revolutionary new concept which enables customers to save significant amounts of time, energy and money. The system can be specifically configured per clients’ requests during the initial set up, and settings can be tweaked accordingly depending on individual preferences in terms of both temperatures and timings. It ensures fantastic savings can be made on both heating and hot water costs and it can easily be considered the best value programmer available on the market. “Our main role is to design, produce
and distribute home control products,” explained Easytherm’s Managing Director Paul Burke. “We have started our journey with a heating and hot water controller that can be controlled either from the base unit or remotely from any internet connected device. Our product road map takes in remote sensors for temperature, remote TRVs, alarm systems (gas, heat, fire, motion) and a central system to manage and control.
but future plans involve penetrating the new build and care and independent living markets. Easytherm’s headquarters is situated in Milton Keynes but its design and development processes take place in the UK and Vietnam and its production and manufacturing facilities are based in Romania. Whilst discussing the company’s progressive path, Paul concluded: “After our recent launch we are simply developing our strategy to increase our awareness in the market and pursue our chosen channels. Our goal is to develop our product line up and really bring a ‘home care and protection’ management system to the domestic user.
“We put the user at the heart of everything we do and we aim to put the user in control of their domestic environment – be that heating and hot water, that is caring for the home environment or protecting the home environment through adequate measures (smoke alarms, CO2 alarms and motion sensor alarms are just some of the products that we aim to bring to market). “With Easytherm, it’s all about simplicity. Our ‘Keep it Simple’ approach runs from the easy set up (one box which fits standard 6 pin BG backplate fond on almost all existing controllers) to the easy configuration. All you have to do is connect to the local internet which is simply done using a phone or a tablet, then it is fully operable from the minute you install, as all functionality can be managed from the unit itself through to very simple app download making all functions operable anytime, anyplace and anywhere from your internet connected device.”
Easytherm’s most recent product is the ETLite, the world’s first upgradable controller. It begins as a simple to use heating and hot water controller and can then be upgraded to an internet based remote controlled heating and hot water controller. Typically, installers utilise these systems the most, but links are being developed with larger institutions in order to install in greater numbers within larger development projects. Naturally, the business is predominantly placed in the heating and plumbing sector,
“We have attended many trade shows, however, as researchers rather than presenters. Our intention is to totally understand our market, what's there and more importantly what's not – we see ourselves as adding value to the already exciting market that is the internet-based control systems market. Our key aim is to make this easy to install and simple to manage whilst making it totally affordable – we want to be the system of choice.” Contact T +44 (0)1865 522583 info@easytherm.co.uk www.easytherm.co.uk

Muller’s Smart Carts UK “As with all good products, the original Muller’s cart was created out of a need for something better.” The humble beginnings of the Smart Cart In 1975, Brigadier General Henry Muller of Santa Barbara in California realised that his 60 year old wife was struggling to man the wheelbarrow in their stable without back pain. Understanding how much his wife loved her horses, he set to designing and creating the first easy to use, lightweight, durable, well-balanced stable cart in the market which he called The Muller’s Stablemate. It became successful in the American market, was renamed ‘The Muller’s Smart Cart’ and is now made in Goreham, Maine. Four years ago David Fortune’s wife purchased a Smart Cart having seen one belonging to a friend. He put it together for her and thought it was a fantastic product. Later, after discovering that his aged mother’s gardener was struggling to dispose of grass cuttings from her vast lawns, he decided to buy her one but discovered that they were no longer available in the UK. David ordered her Smart Cart directly from Maine and offered to be Muller’s Smart Carts’ new distributor in the UK. They appointed him and Smart Carts UK was born. What makes the Smart Cart so ‘smart’? “The carts are perfectly balanced, they are light, easily manoeuvrable and very little lifting is required. They’re also

built to last decades – 20 to 30 years is not unusual. “The weight of the load in a Smart Cart in motion is balanced over the wheels. Unlike the traditional wheelbarrow design – with a single wheel at one end of the tub and lifting required on the other end – only a little leverage – not lifting of the Smart Cart – is necessary to move the centre of gravity over the wheels, making the cart ideal for those with mobility issues and back pain. Its pair of wheels makes it completely stable and controllable with one hand. “Due to the materials used in a Smart Cart, they are known to last well over 25 years,” David continued. “Each product comes with a 5 year warranty, but the combination of the aircraft quality aluminium alloy frame, the steel cross member, axle and wheels and the exceptionally tough, high impact polyethylene of the tub makes the cart tough, light and virtually indestructible.” How can your Smart Cart transform your daily life? “Wherever you use the carts, whether in the garden, in the stable or on the farm, they are incredibly versatile. Rust resistant and leak free, whatever the season. A Smart Cart makes child’s

Building News
Natural daylight is an invaluable asset that has long been recognised as the most effective form of light. It can benefit the health of the building’s occupants by boosting immune systems, aiding normal sleep patterns, and lifting moods. It also increases concentration and mental and visual stimulation, resulting in greater productivity. This is especially important for schools and offices. As well as health benefits, natural light will lead to a reduction in energy bills, electricity usage, CO2 emissions and, consequently, environmental impact. It furnishes buildings with performance that satisfies building regulations and assists in meeting sustainability targets and gaining BREEAM credits. Another valuable advantage is the huge improvement to interior aesthetics, to the point where retail sales are shown to increase with natural light. Artfully designed flat roof rooflights flood interiors with up to three times more daylight than equivalent windows. The light from a rooflight is also more evenly distributed throughout the room, less likely to result in glare or compromise of privacy. Whitesales rooflights are designed to transform the gloomiest of interiors and are equally suited to commercial, education, domestic, leisure and health-related buildings. Flexometal is, as the name suggests, a flexible ferrous sheet material. Plain Flexometal can be used as lining paper and then decorated over with any regular thickness wallpaper of your choice (or a plain lining paper and then painted over). The result – a wall that looks like any other but one that you can stick magnets to! Ideal for nurseries, kids’ bedrooms and playrooms. Flexometal is also available with a dry wipe face. Many clients have used dry wipe faced Flexometal to convert a whole wall into a magnetic whiteboard. Ideal for meeting rooms, creative thinking spaces and education/presenting environments. Dry
wipe faced Flexometal has been used recently to create walls like this in the Cabinet Office and for other prestigious clients such as John Lewis, Waitrose, GlaxoSmithKline, Hewlett Packard plus many more. Flexometal has been fire tested at the Building Research Establishment and classified to Euroclass fire resistance classification EN13501-1. It is the only ferrous sheet available in the UK that carries this classification giving you peace of mind that putting Flexometal sheet up on the walls of any building will not cause a fire hazard. Abel Magnets also supply a full range of magnetic sheet, magnetic tape and other magnetic products – please visit our website for more information.

retaining trees on a development site will make development unviable. However, there is an array of tools available to enable developers to achieve what was previously unthinkable. It is now possible to construct parking near to trees, and to plant trees in the middle of car parks. For one client who needed to create additional parking near his offices, and bought the derelict land from the local authority, the requirement to plant new trees on the site was proving challenging as there was little space available. Someone suggested reducing the number of parking spaces! However, with the use of subterranean infrastructure, we
The team at Cedarwood Tree Care work hard to provide a high quality service to clients seeking to manage trees. From the assessment of trees for safety through to amenity management and assessing for retention suitability on potential development sites, they apply best practice and pioneering ideas to equip clients whether you have one tree or many. Led by principle consultant Mark Chester, an accredited expert witness, advice can be provided on a range of scenarios from Home Buyer Tree Reports to guide mortgage applications, tree safety inspections, tree reports to BS 5837:2012 (often required by local authorities for planning applications involving trees) and providing amenity tree valuations. Money may not grow on trees, but we can provide a monetary value depending on the situation.

Dealing with trees within Conservation Areas and those subject to Tree Preservation Orders, whether within a development scenario or not, can present different challenges. One client with a Willow tree in a Conservation Area proposed for felling was informed that a TPO was to be served on the tree to protect it. He felt helpless in knowing how to resolve the issue, until he called for our help. We were able to identify appropriate pruning and soon obtained the necessary consent. When a new TPO is made, we can provide an appropriate response, whether objecting or ensuring accuracy. We can also help with tree work applications and appeals. Boundary disputes can become protracted and emotive. We seek to identify the key issues and propose solutions, and whatever the issue, our in-house expert is willing to attend court if needed.
