Inside this issue
The company was set up by enthused founder Stanley Russell in 2008, who has approximately 30 years of experience in almost every aspect of the fabrics industry, from coating to weaving and beyond. The entrepreneur wanted to utilize his knowledge in performance products and so made the informed decision to start up his own business. The multifaceted company – which is located in Northern Ireland - specialises in the provision of solutions targeted at the PPE and technical clothing market. To ensure that customers are completely happy with the overall result, APT Fabrics also offers customised fabric sourcing and modification services. Seminars, consultancy and technical textile training schemes are also available for companies all over the world (wherever necessary).

The popular range of unique, trademarked, technical and performance fabrics are specially manufactured and are used by a number of individuals and organisations, including ambulances, utility services, military bases and police forces. The company prides itself on designing waterproof fabrics for all of the police departments in the UK – a fantastic feat which emphasises the scale of impact this specialist manufacturer has made within the sector. This effectiveness is one of the main reasons APT Fabrics stands out in the industry. “Unlike many similar marketed
products, ours actually work!” exclaimed Stanley. “Sometimes it can be easy to buy clothing just for the brand name, but it’s so important to ensure that the purchased garments are actually appropriate for your particular line of work. “Any product we design comes with a 100% money back guarantee, so if customers are dissatisfied or believe the item of clothing doesn’t work then they have that fallback (in the unlikely event they aren’t happy with the product). This goes to show just how confident we are about all of our performance fabrics.” The vast array of products includes a flexible waterproof selection comprising heavy-duty laminated, breathable waterproof fabrics (the Tornado range), lightweight, breathable foul weather clothing (the Tempest range) and items with integrated waterproof, flame retardant and anti-static properties (the Typhoon range). Also available in stock is the APT Fabrics Evolution variety; thermal, moisture-wicking fabrics which includes an innovative range of performance fleece fabrics and the Praetorian range of flame retardant fabrics, including the Praetorian Fireblocker, which provides protection from intense radiant heat. Recent advancements developed by APT Fabrics include the Ultimate Protection range and new ‘Hidden Features’ and ‘Hidden Technology’ within the garments. Increased protection, flexibility and comfort
in all temperatures is possible with the new Ultimate Protection line. Independently tested in various environments and proven to work in temperatures from as low as -30C to +30C, the waterproof garments hold in a constant temperature when moving from different climates, preventing any necessity to pile on the layers in cold weather. The new Hidden Features and Hidden Technologies range integrates electronic devices into the fleeces, allowing wearers to control their devices without having to waste time searching for them. The systems can be navigated from the arm of the fleeces, allowing the ability to listen to music, control tracking devices and take phone calls easily and efficiently – an impressive and revolutionary feature which will enhance productivity in many industries. The associated Aclimatise garments are manufactured using an outer fabric laminated to a breathable Polyurethane membrane incorporating 30% aluminium. A durable water repellent is applied to the ‘fabrics’ surface and the incorporated lining is moisture wicking and antistatic. When discussing future plans and recent developments, Stanley summarised: “As a company we are always innovating; coming up with outstanding products and considering how to bring new technologies into current workplaces. We pride ourselves on product innovation, developing products which pass all of the latest quality and safety

“We have a number of exciting new products in the pipeline which we aren’t at liberty to detail at the moment, but our newest line is the Eco-Air range; hi-vis work wear which is fully recyclable. In terms of future plans, we are looking to continue experiencing steady growth by producing even more leading products.” APT Fabrics received great interest when the team attended the trade show Meet the Manufacturer 2015 in London. The exhibition, which took place from 3-4 June, focuses on showcasing only the best British clothing manufacturers to the UK apparel and textile industry. An Accountable Security Company
The Leeds-based business is a trusted provider of security measures recognised on a national scale for its excellency in providing cost-effective solutions ever since its establishment in 2002. Its status as one of the few Approved Contractors Scheme (ACS) approved businesses in the industry – alongside the fact the team have won over 15 awards in just the past couple of years alone – really sets Acclaimed Security apart from the rest. The well-respected company offers an array of services, such as: Key Holding & Alarmed Response, CCTV Monitoring, Mobile Patrols and Security Guarding. These premium quality solutions provide peace of mind for clients who want to rest assured that their properties, assets and employees will remain well protected at all points – and this can only be achieved through the installation of the latest security systems available. One of the Acclaimed Security’s most popular innovations is its groundbreaking GuardSafe system; fitted boxes slotted into the corners of a building, effectively monitoring four designated patrol routes. This awardwinning invention acts to instantly alert
organisations when a guard is onsite, providing customers with complete confidence that their building is being safely supervised around the clock.
is testament to the industry-leading standard of service offered by the team of highly qualified and knowledgeable experts.
“GuardSafe is a unique patrol logging system which works in real time,” detailed Roy Unwin, Managing Director of Acclaimed Security. “This means companies can have results within seconds – if there are any issues, they are flagged up immediately and dealt with accordingly. This is a vast difference to other businesses, whose results are typically provided after a much greater timespan – some can take as long as a month! We are proud to say that GuardSafe is a system exclusive to us; no-one else in the world has it.”
Roy was particularly pleased to mention that Acclaimed Security had recently secured a huge contract with AS K9 Ltd, an organisation working in accordance with canines to combat terrorism, drug control and general wrongdoing. This partnership involves the expert training of military dogs, explosion detection dogs, drug detection dogs and general attack dogs.
Another celebrated success is Check-Call, a service monitoring the performance of a guard on-duty by ringing them hourly and checking they aren’t asleep on the job. This particular technology tracks the officer’s precise movements through routine calls, mobile responses and periodic checks to ensure the personnel are performing as they should be – and if the guards’ reasons to miss these calls are unsatisfactory then the Acclaimed Security supervisors will be on hand to assess the situation and act appropriately.

Titanium Products Ltd., was formed in 1990 to supply non-standard welded Titanium tubing using imported Commercially Pure strip which is rolled down in the UK to meet specific tube wall thickness requirements. Strip supplies at 0.4 & 0.5mmT are available using domestic rolling and annealing facilities to meet customers’ requirements in widths from 10 to 180mm. In support of the UK based heat exchanger industry, TPL manufactures return bends, pipe fittings, flanges, valves, stub ends etc. and machined components in Titanium, Titanium alloys, Stainless Steel and Nickel alloys are supplied to customers’ drawings. Heat exchanger tube for shell/tube units are available for swimming pool heaters for instance. Titanium cathodes and coated anodes are available in all product forms for cathodic protection, water purification, hypochlorite production etc. Using our own tube supplies, Titanium sheathed water heaters for domestic and industrial applications are manufactured by the Backer Electric Co. Ltd. to the latest issue of BSEN 60335-2-73. Stocks available for next day delivery include 3kW/240V for domestic hot water cylinders and 12/18kW heaters for 415V supply for which the main market is microbreweries. Our heaters are designed to be suitable for Copper and Steel cylinders to reduce the effects of galvanic corrosion in the latter. Titanium heaters have considerable advantages over Nickel alloy heaters in terms of longevity and energy efficiency in hard water areas with reports of service lives in excess of three times those for Nickel alloy sheathed heaters. Lower energy costs are due to the use of thinner wall tube and the reduced tendency for limescale build up on Titanium surfaces.

“With EG Newell you are guaranteed quality machinery,” commented Ernie Newell, Founder of EG Newell. “It is much less expensive than buying new equipment, plus you can purchase machinery from us which is no longer manufactured. To exemplify: nobody else specialises on Heald Internal Grinders such as model 273A’s. We are distinguishable from our competitors in the marketplace because of our specialisation (particularly in regards to grinding machines and internal grinders).” 45 years in the trade has enabled the company to experience significant progression; despite having to deal with many economic hardships, EG Newell has continued to succeed. Ernie explained more about their longevity in the marketplace: “Our persistence has enabled us to succeed in the industry over such a long period of time,” he said. “From 1969 – 1980 we had 36 employees and back then there were a series of recessions – we even started up the company during one! But we have weathered them all effectively, continuing to go forward despite experiencing such
difficult financial times. “We bounced back because we are good at what we do; people still wanted to use the services we provide because of our dependable professionalism and advanced expertise. At the moment we are doing exceedingly well; since the financial year started in April we have continued to perform in an exceptional manner – if we keep moving forwards at this pace then we are on form to treble the income of our business.” EG Newell’s services have been utilised by clients spanning a cross-section of industries, many of whom keep coming back! The machining company of choice has an enriched expertise in the niche which is appreciated and acknowledged by both small and medium sized companies throughout the country and beyond. The machinery experts have worked consistently hard to maintain their position at the forefront of the industry and plan to upkeep this privileged reputation by sustaining their current level of customer service and dedication. Ernie concluded: “We have acquired great interest from trade shows in the past; attendance has provided us with the chance to promote our products and services and obtain new clients. One particularly memorable customer connected with us at an exhibition and they have continued to use our services for over 10 years! We gain great coverage and custom through advertising and recommendations; so the plan is to carry on as usual going forwards, continuing to provide an incredibly good service for all of our customers.” Contact T 01926 400 824/077144 12624 ernie.newell@hotmail.co.uk www.egnewell.co.uk

Your One Stop Source for Access and Measurement Control
Solutions UK is incredibly pleased to feature OMEGA as its duly selected Measurement Instrumentation Provider of the Year. The industry experts specialise in the provision of first-rate equipment for the measurement and control of temperature, humidity, pressure, strain, force, flow, level, pH and conductivity. The test & measurement, laboratory, environmental, process control, data acquisition, electric heating and power monitoring products form an impressive inventory spanning more than 100,000 stateof-the-art items. The company, which was established in 1962, has evolved from manufacturing a single product line of thermocouples to become an established global leader in the technical marketplace. It was strategically formed in order to improve indoor air quality in operational environments and to tackle the associated workplace health and safety concerns. The leading direct marketing brand and
manufacturer in the process and control industry understands that comfort in an office or workshop is of the utmost importance for a variety of reasons: it improves productivity, avoids health issues and makes for a better working atmosphere. This subsequently relates to the problem whereby individuals breathe in ambient air which contains life supporting oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide (as well as harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde or carbon monoxide). This will inevitably impact workers, taking a negative toll on their wellbeing, as the inhalation of such air can lead to the irritation of mucous membranes (eyes, nose, throat), strained breathing—coughs, wheezing, chest tightness – as well as potentially worsening existing health problems and increasing the risk of heart disease, cancer and kidney and liver diseases. Characteristics such as temperature, humidity and barometric pressure determine the comfort level experienced by humans in close proximity, so a balance must be met in relation to the temperate and barometric pressure control in order to successfully eliminate these problems.
One of OMEGA’S advanced comfort control systems is the HX400 Transmitter, which provides remote and on-site monitoring of relative humidity and temperature. Utilised extensively in environmental air monitoring and system applications, the programmable 2-wire field mounted transmitter combines digital capacitor humidity/temperature chip and microprocessor-based linearization with temperature drift compensation technology to offer proportional, linear, and highly accurate dual 4 to 20 mA output current.

OMEGA introduces Insertion Electromagnetic Flow Meter FMG980 Omega’s new FMG980 series of insertion electromagnetic flow meters are durable, easy to install and easy to maintain CE compliant products. These flowmeters are designed for use with conductive liquids in 25 to 305 mm (1 to 12") pipe. A choice of materials (stainless steel, brass, and PVC) allows the meter to adapt to a range of temperature, pressure, and corrosive environments. Designed for modularity and versatility, the FMG980 Series has a current-sinking pulse
Introducing the OMEGA HHLT-1T Ultrasonic Leak Detector OMEGA’S new series of CE Compliant ultrasonic leak detector features an ultrasonic sound range of 20 to 100 kHz. Leaking air or gas is generally considered to be viscous flow and as the flow velocity increases, the frequency of the ultrasonic sound emitted will become higher. The HHLT-1R amplifies and converts these sounds to frequencies and levels that the human ear can hear. The HHLT1T transmitter can supply ultrasonic signals for locations where the gas/air leak does not have sufficient pressure to create an ultrasonic sound. The HHLT-1 series is ideal for pressure and vacuum system leak detection exhaust, system tanks and pipe leak testing as well as steam trap inspection and gas leaks in general. Prices start at £194.00
“Our name is a synonym for quality products and fantastic customer service,” commented Hans Dabeesing, Head of Marketing at OMEGA. “We offer a wide choice of products which are available when you need them as well as customised solutions to suit individual requirements. It is our commitment to quality instrumentation and exceptional customer service that has remained the cornerstone of our success.”

Tradition, innovation & continuity – a unique combination
Originally established in 1919 as Foundrometers Ltd, the wellregarded business has specialised in the manufacture, supply and repair of mechanical and electrical instruments for the measurement of rotational movement since then. In 1980 Foundrometers took over the instrument division of Harding of Leeds and subsequently secured its position as a globally recognised leader in the industry. For more than 10 years now, Foundrometers Instrumentation, now called RHEINTACHO UK Ltd. since 2014, has been a subsidiary of the German company RHEINTACHO Messtechnik GmbH. The Leeds-based manufacturer was set up with the principle purpose of providing a vast array of customers with an unparalleled level of service and quality surrounding rotational speed instrumentation. Its extensive inventory of products ranges from mechanical & electrical tachometers to handheld tachometers, portable
& fixed stroboscopes and speed sensors. The company is firmly placed in the measurement sector, but its testing capabilities are utilised in many industries, from shipbuilding to printing and production machinery. Its main customers are distributers and OEMs located in the UK or abroad in Europe and the US, and many of its esteemed clients appreciate the fact that the company is one of the very few offering spares and repairs services professionally. “What makes us stand out from competitors is our high level of quality, our flexibility and speed in connection with delivery reliability and spare parts or repairs,” Paul Hargraves, Director of RHEINTACHO UK, said. “In addition, our parent company is specialised in sensor technology
as a complement technology to our mechanical and electrical products.”
company have definitely been selling best since a year ago.
The business’s renowned commitment to providing complete customer satisfaction extends to flexibility in terms of its S&R services (spares and repairs), as RHEINTACHO UK is willing to fix not only their own products, but also their competitors’. Even instruments from closed companies can be repaired, regardless of how old they may be. If not, they will find an alternative solution.
When discussing the company’s recent performance, Paul said: “The last twelve months have seen a massive restructuring process focussing on process optimization in technical and administrative matters aimed at improving customer satisfaction and the effectiveness of all efforts within the organisation.
RHEINTACHO UK work under the influence of economic, human and socially focused responsibility. “Our mission is to be successful, but to stay human at the same time,” Paul explained. “We operate having acquired a Corporate and Social Responsibility Code of Conduct (ZVEI), and we want to be a leader in efficiency, innovation and quality while running a business focussed on a fair partnership with our customers and suppliers alike.” The company places a direct emphasis on product development and further progression, prioritising innovation and efficiency alongside high value and effective customisation. The most recent addition to the RHEINTACHO UK product portfolio is the ATEX version of the handheld mechanical tachometer (HTM). Both versions of its HTM and the product families of stroboscopes coming from its parent
“Due to closer integration within the organisational structures of our German parent company, RHEINTACHO Messtechnik GmbH, located in Freiburg, the capital of the Black Forest, we now receive very professional support in nearly every department of our company. In addition, we have been provided with the services of a business consultant, William Buhler, who first concentrated on controlling and KPIs. Now, this support is being experienced in marketing and sales activities.” It hasn’t all been smooth-sailing, though: “2014 was a difficult year for RHEINTACHO UK,” Paul admitted. “However, since the beginning of 2015, we have surely been experiencing a strong recovery and by far will surpass our good year in 2013 this year. For several reasons, we are well-positioned for the future. “In comparison to last year, sales are up by approx. 50% and in comparison to forecast we are more than on track. We have been able to enlarge our customer base and reactivate several older customers, and our own product lines are complemented with products we sell for our parent company.”
The future is set to be promising for RHEINTACHO UK, who will be focusing specifically on enlarging its portfolio and securing more jobs in the UK in 2015 and beyond. There are many developments in the pipeline for the notable supplier, who will be receiving further product families from RHEINTACHO Messtechnik GmbH throughout the course of the next few years. “Our plans are to grow with sustainable development and to eventually provide new job opportunities within the next 5 years,” Paul explained. “On a medium to long-term basis, we must also focus on satisfying our parent company. We are going to continue building and expanding our business with renowned global distributors and sales organisations in all relevant product markets. “There will be another product transfer from Germany to Micklefield, based on additional capacity resulting from our lean projects and out proven experience in the manufacture and assembly of measuring instruments. In autumn, 2 staff members will again be visiting Germany to be trained for the project. We are also continuously investigating growth opportunities together with Germany ranging from newly transferred products to potential acquisitions.” Contact: Paul Hargraves T +44 (0)113 287 4411 sales@rheintacho.co.uk www.rheintacho.com Link for HTM (including ATEX version): www.rheintacho.de/ en/products/mechanical-handtachometers/ www.rheintacho.de/ en/products/portablestroboscopes/ www.youtube.com/user/ Rheintacho www.linkedin.com/company/ rheintacho-messtechnik-gmbh www.facebook.com/rheintacho. messtechnikgmbh

The UK automated systems solution provider has over five decades of industry experience, delivering both stand-alone machines and complete ‘turnkey’ projects with an unmatched level of efficiency and competency. The refined product line comprises an impressive selection of palletisers and de-palletisers including robotic, layer or gantry type systems to handle anything from cases, shrink packs, glass, plastic or metallic containers. The company’s capabilities are incredibly far-reaching; its main activities relate to the provision of robotics for palletising, layer palletisers high and low level, gantry type robots, semi & fully automatic de palletisers, palletisers for sack products, pallet stretch hood & shrink systems and both semi & fully automatic pallet stretch wrappers. In a bid to provide a fully comprehensive service, the supplier conveys pack and pallets, integrating, check weighing, coding and labelling systems wherever applicable. Case packing (either standard American or wraparound types) and LGV’s Laser Guided Vehicles can also be provided to further complement these processes. PHS’ de-palletiser range allows the customer to explore the option of completely customisable systems; the tooling is supplied bespoke to the product and can be designed exactly to facilitate individual specifications. This means that commissions can be seen to appropriately, handling a range of containers capably using vacuum plates, fingers or specially adapted means (according to the complexity). In the event that the customer uses interlayer sheets or base sheets, these can be automatically removed and stacked into a magazine – likewise, when the load has been exhausted, the de-palletiser will deposit the empty pallet into another magazine to be eventually removed by the FLT operator. As an established name in the packing, palletising and labelling industries, it is hardly surprising that PHS has secured itself an extensive list of esteemed clientele. Commitment to Excellence
Specialists in Low-Maintenance Garden Design Solutions UK is excited to announce that Pro-mats has been awarded its highly coveted Commitment to Excellence profile. The artificial grass and rubber play surfacing specialists were selected for their incredible determination to advance in the landscaping sector, having diversified the services they offer and for striving to undertake projects of all sizes in order to achieve complete customer satisfaction wherever possible. The company, which is based in Great Barr, Birmingham, was set up in September 2009 by Luke Chapman and started as a relatively niche business focusing mainly on specialist rubber surfaces. Since then, it has rapidly developed to offer a wide range of landscaping-related services in order to make the most of its personnel’s varied skillsets. “The business started off in playground safety surface installation,”
Luke detailed. “After around three years, due to market conditions, we introduced artificial grass to our service offering which led to requests coming in from the residential market. As we completed install after install, our reputation for artificial grass in domestic gardens grew, and during this time we were asked if we could install paths, walls, fencing, decking etc. along with the artificial grass. This organically led to us taking on full garden design projects – and after our first one was finalised, we’ve never looked back!” Pro-mats are now predominantly renowned for providing services in relation to artificial grass, but their secondary role is that of expert landscaping and landscape design. In order to remain true to their origins and to maintain a reputation for project diversity, the team also continue to offer their playground safety surface installation capabilities. Their key specialisms centre on patios, decking, fencing, driveways, custom made garden benches/ seats, wetpour rubber surfacing, bonded rubber mulch and resin bound gravel. One of Pro-mats recent commissions was a recently devised small-scale scheme that made an incredible difference to one family in the Midlands. After being approached by a customer in Birmingham, the group of experts

Solutions UK is extremely proud to present its highly prestigious and richly deserved Commitment to Excellence profile to RABScreens. Dedicated to improving air quality, RABScreens provide the unique external air filter which can be fitted to any air movement plant to protect existing filters and coils. RABScreens’ air intake filter screens offer a unique external filtration system to protect your plant from seed, pollen, dust, cottonwood seed and all other airborne debris. As the only UK supplier of such systems, RABScreens was set up in 2012 by Managing Director Richard Betts. Richard discovered the product, which is manufactured in the USA, when helping a customer solve a problem at a major datacentre. In 2012, he gained the right to distribute Air Intake Filter Screens to the whole of Europe and RAB Specialist Engineers was formed in 2013. “I liken it to a mobile phone; no one thought they needed one until they have it, and now people can’t live without them,” commented Richard. “Our air intake filter screens can reduce maintenance cost by up to 75% and increase standard filter life by 60%. Only a slight bit of dirt or debris can affect the efficiency of equipment and use up to 30% more energy. “At RAB, we are focused on providing quality support to the Building Services professional with the highest levels of customer satisfaction. With fully trained professionals providing an excellent service, we’re sure you’ll be happy working with us.” The advanced system works by the polyester core being negatively charged and the polypropylene overlay having a positive charge. Airflow “excites” the engineered mesh and creates an electrostatic charge which attracts debris, which is then held on the polypropylene overlay and can be easily removed. Depending upon the combination of media used, filter efficiency can be as high

were more than happy to fulfil her specific gardening request and so took the job with great enthusiasm and determination. After consulting with the client, her landscaping demands became apparent: having just secured long-term foster care of a young autistic child with a keen appreciation of textures and the outdoors – exploring winding pathways and feeling different textures – she wanted to transform her garden into a safe haven where her little girl could play freely and contentedly. Because she was currently undergoing cancer treatment, the customer had become progressively more frustrated that she couldn’t always take her daughter to the local park and so needed a solution that was much more convenient for them both. The Pro-mats team set to work and managed to successfully create a visually pleasing garden space that met all of the set criteria. The effect of the different textures was accomplished by applying four separate types of artificial grass and a bonded rubber pathway, which circled in various directions in order to satisfy the client’s brief in its totality. Further additions included artificial grass footsteps in the rubber pathway (to provide yet another texture transition) and the installation of a new gate to ensure the area was safely secured. The result was a garden that had been
completely revamped – the client was so thrilled with the transformation that she broke down in tears! She commented that the work Pro-mats had done was “so meaningful” and “life-changing”, and was even more delighted to find that the area was of very low maintenance and could also be used all year round. Another accomplishment of Pro-mats is the help they provided to a family in Rednal who have twins with a number of physical difficulties which means they have to spend their days in wheelchairs. As part of DIY SOS - The Big Build, Pro-mats offered their services for free to renovate their garden. After seeing the garden made for the twins and their brother, their Nan, who moved close by so that she could help out whenever she was needed, asked if they could take a look at her overrun garden as well, which they are currently working on. The episode will be aired in the New Year. These remarkable case studies are examples of how the group have made a substantial impact with their customisable services. Luke was keen to explain further: “This specialist service is something we’re currently developing as we find it extremely rewarding working with families who have very specific

as 93%. The external weather & UV resistant screen media protects the air movement equipment. Chiller efficiency can be improved by up to 21% and will reduce your environmental impact by lower use of chemicals on cleaning & cooling towers. As a result energy efficiency is increased by up to 30% and ROI can be gained in less than 8 months. “The systems are guaranteed to last up to 10 years,” explained Richard, “meaning your air is safer for longer. A return on investment can be seen within 8 months and our dedicated team are always on hand to help. When you deal with RAB you deal with time served professionals and have full manufacturer support.” The company recently rebranded, changing its name from RAB Specialist Engineers to RABScreens. They have also launched a YouTube channel under this name and made improvements to their website. “The new unique name means that RABScreens is easier to find and better describes what we do,” commented Richard. “The change comes as the company continues to enjoy ongoing success and we feel this will prove very positive for the company as a whole.” When asked to discuss what the future holds for RABScreens, Richard concluded: “We are currently trialling our air intake filter screens in M&S stores and, if it is successful which we are confident it will be, we hope to save energy for the whole retail sector which currently uses a massive 5,800 GWh to power its refrigerated display cabinets. Our Air Filtration Screens were also in the final of the H&V News Awards 2015 which is a fantastic achievement for us and why we say: “If you move air you have an application for the RABScreen® external air intake filter”. Your Perfect Drilling Companion Replacing the need for over sharpened and ineffective pencils or felt tips, Marxman delivers a burst of brightly coloured dry chalk, quickly and clearly marking where to drill your hole by pressing it into fixing holes of varying depths and diameters, it sprays a visible dot. When pushed directly onto a surface, the models spray a noticeable cross, which acts as a neat reference point increasing efficiency for workers everywhere. The chalky fluorescent green burst is prominent on all surface types, from pebble dash, wood and tile to brick and metal, making it an invaluable item for any workman’s toolbox.
Solutions UK is proud to present Marxman it’s prestigious Commitment to Excellence award. Marxman are an exciting new company developed by selfemployed maintenance man Martin Chard in 2011. The new revolutionary solution to marking surfaces (during building, installing or measuring) was conceived after the enterprising Martin encountered multiple difficulties when trying to fit a sink in a bathroom and put up shelves in a kitchen. Effectively taking the problem into his own hands, Martin conceptualised the innovation that would make drilling position markmaking a much simpler and quicker process. The British-made patented product, reg. TM, eliminates the obstacles encountered by everyone working in the trade; from industry professionals to DIY enthusiasts, the incredibly useful tool remains superior when compared to the more conventional methods of marking. “Marxman is completely unique, there is no other product that works like it,” commented Martin. “Every tool bag should have one!” Martin’s wife and business partner Jenny agreed that the Marxman is a most beneficial piece of equipment: “The tool cuts the time it takes to do the job in half, giving tradesmen the opportunity to significantly shorten what can be a very long, inaccurate and frustrating procedure,” she said. “In the design stages we held out until we had a prototype that was well constructed because we wanted a quality British product.”

The easy-to-operate tool uses non-toxic ingredients and has a very low global warming potential. The original Standard Marxman marks through depths of 45mm and under, whilst the Deep hole Marxman can be used through depths of 45mm and over, so no matter the application, all tasks can be seen to accordingly with heightened productivity and simplicity. What’s more, the spray is easy to remove, so there aren’t any issues if a mistake is made. “As a new product there is plenty of scope for development and expansion,” Jenny concluded. “We hope to improve the product by using varying colours for specific jobs, adding a lid and belt grip and then a light which catches the luminosity of the chalk. Press it, drill it, mark it is our tagline and that is exactly what Marxman does!” The finished product was first introduced at the Totally DIY: Totally Tools 2015, where it proved to be a great success. The innovation even managed to clinch the coveted prize of Best DIY Product – the judges marvelled at the tool for being ‘the most simple yet cunningly clever product with a true understanding of consumer needs that is both time-saving and well-communicated.’ Marxman is currently being locally trialled by Tool Bank and is on sale in small DIY, electrical and tile shops and via the company website at www.marxmanpen. co.uk. At a retail price of just £9.95 and with the capability to deliver over 200 sprays, Marxman is a worthwhile product that you must invest in! Bulmer Brick and Tile Company is a long established family business on the site of a brick making yard dating back centuries. Bulmer bricks are made from the finest London Clays, dug continually from our own clay seams since Tudor times. All our bricks are entirely hand made using traditional methods. We specialise in restoration and conservation of old buildings; working closely with architects and contractors to produce our facing brick to the specification required for your particular building. Although we aim to have a stock of the more common sizes, dimensions and texture are made to order, so that each building receives the correct brick for the work. The kilns are unique coal fired downdraught kilns, loaded, unloaded and fired by hand in a long and labourious process, ensuring each and every brick has had our personal attention. No artificial colours, tints or dyes are used in our process. The beautiful range of colours from orange to dark red and purple comes purely from the firing process, just as it would have been over the centuries. We make a huge variety of brick specials, including terracotta, plinths, squints, decorative chimney bricks, string course bricks and over 500 different types of coping which increases on a weekly basis. All the specials are moulded from wooden moulds, which are made in our own carpentry workshop. We also have a range of garden edging and decorative plaques depicting floral patterns, some of which are made from original moulds over 100 years old.
The FMB prides itself on offering quality support and advice to clients in a bid to help them to reach all of their building and construction goals. Its vision revolves around securing associated companies a prime position in the marketplace, maximising profits wherever possible. Acting as a hub of industry-appropriate knowledge and expertise, the highlyqualified group assists businesses to deliver supreme services and excellent value.
We have our own brick cutting workshop where we can create cut and rubbed arches, either loose or on steel lintels ready to lift into position, and can cut specials or cut and bond from customer supplied material. Our own clay is prepared by a variety of methods to produce a BBT Fully Washed Rubber for use in fine Georgian Rubbed work and in other grades that can be easily cut and rubbed on site if required.

DHA Design and Develop Modernist Dream House “There are three considerations when it comes to planning: what the building looks like from the road, whether it’s the right size for the plot, and the design. As the house can’t be seen from the road, and the plot is huge, we only had to worry about design. Amazingly, we got permission with no planning conditions at all.” After purchasing the 5 1/2 acre plot including an existing house, Clinton Dall enlisted the help of his designer Desmond Harvey to redesign his home; a 5500 sqft single storey house. repricating one of the most iconic public buildings of the 20th Century - Barcelona Pavillion. The overhaul of the plot in West Sussex was a massive project, costing roughly £1.5m (almost double his original budget) and taking 15 months to complete. Based on the famed minimalist structure built by the maestro of modernism Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition), the new home is one of the biggest ever to appear on Grand Designs, the hugely popular Channel 4 programme.

After purchasing in the land in 2013, Dall recruited Harvey to help and together they swiftly agreed on a basic design. Harvey, whose practice, DHA, is based in Brighton, came up with the Barcelona Pavilion reference in order to assist project permission: “It was partly to get it through planning, because having a reference to an iconic building helps,” he admitted.

The impressively vast building, which has been named Pavello, stretches the width of woodland site on the edge of Colgate, a village near Horsham. Its stunning aesthetic design includes the notable cantilevered flat roof, the seamless transition between indoors and out, and the rectangular pool flanking the house. Other significant features include the huge Italian white porcelain tiles and the glazing which enables a clear view of the beautiful expanse of perfect green lawn outside. Dall was incredibly pleased with the exceptional result. When asked about how long he will stay at Pavello, he said: “I don’t tend to think of remaining anywhere for ever. However, I have only been here for a few months and I am planning to stay. This house is as close to perfection as I can get!” Pavello featured in episode one of the new series of Grand Designs, which was on Channel 4 earlier this year. Shot Blasting News One-stop-shop steel finishing services from Joseph Ash Galvanizing
For many years Joseph Ash Galvanizing has been proud to provide galvanizing services to companies and individuals throughout the UK – helping to improve the appearance and prolong the life of steel. Galvanizing is not the only steel finishing service which Joseph Ash Galvanizing specialises in however. The company also provides excellent shot blasting and powder coating services too. And at the Joseph Ash – Medway plant, these are all provided as a one-stop-service from under the same roof. Joseph Ash Galvanizing can galvanize, powder coat, strip and shot blast all architectural and structural steel to meet the needs of a diverse range of customers.
What are the benefits? Shotblast + Galvanizing provides thicker micron coverage and improved corrosion protection for over 75 years (based on minimum compliance and 140 microns coverage). Shotblast + Powdercoating is the ideal internal application and while the lack of galvanizing offers no corrosion protection, it does mean that internally any steel project can be coated with a splash of colour to bring alive a staircase or decorative feature. Shotblast + Galvanizing + Powdercoating provides all of the above and a much improved finish in terms of colour and variety of aesthetic finishes. Improved logistics and an easy to use service. By providing all of these services from under one roof, transport costs are reduced for customers, and the likelihood of damage between transits is also minimised. A one-stop-shop service saves time, money, energy and also helps to improve quality. Few steel finishing companies in the UK are able to offer such a range of flexible closely linked services. www.josephash.co.uk

Post Commitment To Excellence Get your parcels. First Time. Every Time. Building Solutions UK is extremely proud to present its highly prestigious Commitment to Excellence profile to Sam Squirrel Box. The Sam Squirrel concept is a new, revolutionary way to receive your parcels on time, every time, even if you are out. A combination lock that only the postman/courier – and yourself can open A unique barcode inside that removes the need to collect a signature Made from fire resistant HDPE plastic, tough , weatherproof, maintenance free Two versions: the Sam Squirrel box that is easily affixed to any wall and the Parcel Keep with no dome but designed to be let in to a new build house. Having previously worked for a courier and witnessing around 30% of parcels being returned to the warehouse each day, Bob Dudson created a solution to end this problem. As the only courier/ parcel box designed to fit within the brickwork, Parcel Keep and The Sam Squirrel Box combine a letter opening

and large parcel box with no need to provide a front door letter flap. The box conveniently contains a combination lock allowing the postman or courier to leave the parcel in safe and secure place. When the customer orders goods online the four digit combination is added to the address which is printed on the label and invoice. On delivery, the postman can open the box and see that there is a bar-code and number inside for him to read off instead of a signature. The door is then closed and the code scrambled. These new innovations are manufactured by Prefect Lockers of Teddington, a company established in 2004 who manufacturer and supply lockers and other cabinets for hard use areas such as schools, sports centres and swimming pools, for both private companies and local authorities. If bought by the container load, builders can purchase the boxes at £80 compared to the retail of £299. It can then be coloured to match your brickwork. “Our boxes not only provide benefits for homeowners looking to receive parcels while they are out,” commented Bob Dudson, CEO at Sam Squirrel Box, “they also improve
your EPC rating and will add interest and value to purchasers, and provide another selling point for your agents. “We are currently preparing a stacking design for blocks of flats which we will be looking to introduce very soon. Understanding how much his wife loved her horses, he set to designing and creating the first easy to use, lightweight, durable, well-balanced stable cart in the market which he called The Muller’s Stablemate. It became successful in the American market, was renamed ‘The Muller’s Smart Cart’ and is now made in Goreham, Maine. Four years ago, David Fortune’s wife purchased a Smart Cart having seen one belonging to a friend. He put it together for her and thought it was a fantastic product. Later, after discovering that his aged mother’s gardener was struggling to dispose of grass cuttings from her vast lawns, he decided to buy her one but discovered that they were no longer available in the UK. David ordered her Smart Cart directly from Maine and offered to be Muller’s Smart Carts’ new
What makes the Smart Cart so ‘smart’? “The carts are perfectly balanced, they are light, easily manoeuvrable and very little lifting is required. They’re also built to last decades – 20 to 30 years is not unusual. “The weight of the load in a Smart Cart in motion is balanced over the wheels. Unlike the traditional wheelbarrow design – with a single wheel at one end of the tub and lifting required on the other end – only a little leverage – not lifting of the Smart Cart – is necessary to move the centre of gravity over the wheels, making the cart ideal for those with mobility issues and back pain. Its pair of wheels makes it completely stable and controllable with one hand. “Due to the materials used in a Smart Cart, they are known to last well over 25 years,” David continued. “Each product comes with a 5 year warranty, but the combination of the aircraft quality aluminium alloy frame, the steel cross member, axle and wheels and the exceptionally tough, high impact polyethylene of the tub makes the cart tough, light and virtually indestructible.” How can your Smart Cart transform your daily life?
“Wherever you use the carts, whether in the garden, in the stable or on the farm, they are incredibly versatile. Rust resistant and leak free, whatever the season. A Smart Cart makes child’s play out of transporting your straw, hay, feed or heavy fertiliser from A to B. An easily connected tow bar is available to turn your cart into a trailer behind an ATV, even over rough ground. Fill it with ice, beer and wine and your summer party will go with a swing! Gardeners will rejoice in this long-lasting wheelbarrow alternative. The great ‘tip forward’ design makes it simple to unload soil, grass cuttings and even paving stones. Originally designed specifically for stable work, the Smart Cart makes mucking out a pleasure it never used to be!” With huge capacity (7 and 12 cu ft options), two colours and wheel sizes (16” and 20” diameter) available, why not invest in a Smart Cart? In addition to the carts, see also the Easy Connect Towbar, Muck Caddy and Smart Water Cart.

Laboratory News
The best labs choose Leman Instruments equipment concentrates on the provision of standard products, OEMs and in custom designed realisation involving high purity Hydrogen (H2), Nitrogen (N2), Zero Air & combined solutions for FIDs, GCs, purge Air generations, CH4 & CO2 scrubbers, N2 and multi gas for LCMS.
Although only established in 2012, Leman Instruments has developed rapidly to become a leading European company specialising in the field of high technology gas generators. The family-ran business, which is located in Archamps Technopole, France, places a specific focus on the manufacture and marketing of sophisticated scientific components utilised in the analysis of solids, liquids and gases. The specialist in modules of scientific
Individually equipped with high performance communication interfaces (RS485, Ethernet and WLAN options), the reliable instruments significantly reduce operational costs and provide a solid return on investment within the space of two years. Suitably slotting into laboratory, air quality monitoring and industrial environments, the apparatus has been strategically constructed to suit the majority of these related applications. These premium quality modules also provide high pressure stability, essentially improving upon the resolution and detection limits of instruments, whilst the constant purity ensures there will be no contamination concerns. Integrating Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM), Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) and Catalysis
technologies, they can be easily controlled via a touch panel or iPad, proving easy to install and operate. “One of the major benefits of the generators is their maximised safety and conservationism,” said Alexandre Berteletti, Sales & Business Development Manager at Leman Instruments. “They are the most compact of their kind, and they have the smallest footprint with the highest possible efficiency and capacity. They are incredibly safe and eliminate the risk of a chemical reaction, particularly when using hydrogen. “Because we have internal quality control, our analysers are on hand to make sure the components run properly. This is of great importance, especially since we insist that our generators are exactly what our customers are after, maintaining guaranteed levels of purity. After listening to individual requests we can develop custom solutions together with the client, tailored for specific applications (and at competitive prices).” One of Leman Instruments’ newest innovations is its combined
technology gas generator, the GC STATION 60L & GC STATION 60LC. The single unit incorporates an inboard compressor and is a concept unlike any other currently offered in the marketplace. Alexandre detailed further, “This advancement is unique to our brand and has been appreciated by our customers for being practical. Combining high purity hydrogen, zero air and nitrogen generators, this product acts as a fully automated solution. “Further developments include new communication protocols which we have established for the benefit of our customers, who will want to be provided with all of the necessary information. All of our products are part of this system; the technology and protocols can be easily integrated with systems all over the globe. “Fundamentally, we always advance along with technology whilst keeping our customers close. We operate with maximum care and we believe that human contact is important – you won’t be put through to any automated hotlines whilst contacting Leman Instruments – we
ensure to offer single customers direct support and are always happy to answer any questions they may have.” Get in touch with the friendly and approachable team at Leman Instruments today – the dedicated professionals will be available to help you with any associated queries. A total of £750,000 is scheduled to be spent on a new soluble oil treatment and oily sludge centrifuge, together with the installation of a tank farm consisting of ten storage and processing tanks.
