TONE Scaffolding Services innovates by using Bradshaw… TONE Scaffolding Services has recently taken delivery of two tow tractors and 4 bespoke industrial platform trailers from Bradshaw. The vehicles have been put in to Paddington Station to tow large amounts of scaffolding around the site, to locations where the workers need it during the station’s restoration project, which includes refurbishing the platforms, repairing existing structures supporting London Street, building new bridges and walkways together with the installation of new mechanical and electrical systems. Due to the access restrictions at the station and the large volume and length of the load, TONE Scaffolding required a vehicle with both the maneuverability and towing capacity. The T700 tow tractor, together with bespoke 4 wheel interlinked steering trailers, enables for large volumes and lengths to maneuver through tight areas, with 2 or more trailers capable of being linked in series, enabling a larger load to be carried at any one time. windows at Top Man. If it’s work to do with retail, SMITHvc will take it on. When asked to discuss the company’s plans for the future, Michael concluded: “SMITHvc has been steadily growing over the years, although we do not intend to be a very large business. The growth has come thanks to recommendations and our honesty in letting customers know when we are at full stretch and not to take on any work we can’t personally oversee. Our aim is to continue at a comfortable pace and not overstretch ourselves so that we give our best to each of our clients.”

Working with independent and top high street brands for over 6 years, SMITHvc are fully equipped and experienced to provide innovative, eye-catching designs that really get your products and services noticed. Each member of its highly skilled team has been in the business for many years, previously working with larger blue chip companies, and now thrives on channelling their abilities into working as a smaller team and focusing on companies needing a more bespoke approach. SMITHvc manufacture clients own designs or can assist with designing store departments, interiors and window displays. This also leads to Press shows and Exhibition stands where the company has helped guide brands with their image. With the main Sales office in Fulham, London, SMITHvc manufactures from units in South Wales and are willing to take on any project including small developments or large roll out production. They have worked on many exciting projects including building sets for TV shows and Theatre, as well as fitting departments for Marks and Spencer and Primark. Recently, SMITHvc has award winningly helped to design, manufacture and install all the product units and the display and marketing props for the new image of the Hamleys brand into all 5 floors of their Famous Regent Street store. Michael Smith of SMITHvc commented: “With our teams

individual knowledge of retail formed from experience in various areas either as a client or as a supplier for design, window dressing and VM based product knowledge, we can help guide our clients to achieve exactly what they want using a product that will do the job for them, be practical and not just look pretty, with the end result being to promote and increase sales. “Picking up on current trends and applying them to our shop fit design or displays, has always been a significant part of the work we do. We like to link the shop fit with VM and Display, because of our knowledge in set building and paint finishes, and we also sell amazing mannequins from the French company ‘Window mannequin’ – www.windowmannequins.com. If there is anything that we can't tackle in house using our full time team, we use freelance people who have their own small businesses and try to use local companies and people recommended by word of mouth.”

SMITHvc attends many trade shows throughout the year with their most recent appearances taking place at The London Display and Design show and The Euroshop Show in Dusseldorf. Michael commented: “We always receive extremely positive feedback. We try and show a themed shop fit with our usual twist on the design and finishes, often involving unusual equipment that is not usually associated with shop fitting, and blending it with standard units to make them quirky. In our last show, for example, we had concrete filing cabinets, fake steel desks and printed plywood to look like fabric and upholstery.” Contact Michael Smith: M 07775 500964 michael@smithvc.com www.smithvc.com

Racking finds a-safe footing Most of us will have had an Archimedes moment – a flash of inspiration that solves a long-standing issue or that elusive light bulb flash when synapses connect and a quandary is quashed. Of course, inspiration may not always come to you in the bath like it did for the famous Ancient Greek scholar – you could just as easily be out driving the car or walking the dog – but even Archimedes himself never claimed to have had a double ‘Eureka!’ moment. But the Research and Development boffins at A-SAFE can perhaps lay claim to such double-headed sparks of inventiveness. Their RackGuard rack protection system was already a ‘Eureka!’ product, installed in factories and warehouses around the world, protecting racking from the impact of vehicles and machinery. It was flexible, visually prominent and capable of absorbing impact, therefore reducing damage to the racking and, just as crucially, protecting stock and personnel in the process. But their new iFlex RackGuard takes an already fantastic product and improves it by implementing a whole host of new and unique benefits. In comes a Compression Hinge to ensure the rack leg is in a constant state of compression and is securely gripped. Then, a Centralising Rubber Lug ensures the

RackGuard fits centrally to any rack leg. Finally, Ten Frictional Grip Points provide an improved overall grip to any rack leg. Add these features to the built-in memory properties of the material, Memaplex, which allows the RackGuard to return to its original shape after repeated impacts, and include the fact that RackGuard will now fit around any leg size, and you are left with a simply unbeatable product that is an improvement on an already truly outstanding design. www.asafe.com

100 Years of Excellence

Keeping the pressure up on mine safety

High Pressure Pumps achieve long term approval in China RMI Pressure Systems has taken a major step forward in expanding its support of the Chinese mining market by achieving a 5 year mining approval certificate for its complete product range, including the pump control system. The company has now been issued with the certificates, concluding an extended process which included detailed examinations of both the products and the production facilities.

There are few industries as potentially dangerous as underground mining where safety systems must be built and maintained to the highest standards. Market pressures demand that the productivity and efficiency of mines continue to increase, which puts increasing pressures on technology to improve safety equipment. Modern longwall mining techniques require a roof support system that maintains a safe working area while moving with the shearer and allowing a controlled collapse of the roof. A coal mine presents a number of challenges for the designers of mining equipment, and a long list of standards that must be met. RMI Pressure Systems is a global leader in high pressure The potential for explosive gases means that pumping systems and has spent over 100 years delivering all mines have an extensive network of gas innovative and practical solutions to customers around monitors to warn of any potential risk to life. As the world a further precaution, any equipment designed to operate in the mine must be certified to shield plates in place. All of the units are connected work in potentially explosive atmospheres. In together and powered by a high pressure hydraulic pump addition, the reliability of any safety related equipment which provides the power to hold thousands of tonnes of must be proven beyond doubt. rock in place while the coal face is mined. Within the mining industry, safety is the highest priority, RMI Pressure Systems is a global leader in high pressure meaning the selection of equipment for use within a mining pumping systems and has spent over 100 years delivering environment has to a rigorous process, with sustained innovative and practical solutions to customers around the testing being completed before operational approval is world. Most countries operate a scheme whereby all safety both above and below ground, many of RMI's most popular critical equipment undergoes design scrutiny as well as products include certifications and approvals from some of on-site testing before it can be specified for operation within the world's leading mining organisations. the industry. One such example is the UK Coal Acceptance scheme. The testing period can last for a whole year, during which the equipment undergoes continuous monitoring to ensure that the performance levels remain within necessary tolerances. The certification process is extremely vigorous and only the best equipment is awarded a UK Coal Acceptance Certificate at the end.

The Trimax S range of pumps from RMI have been used across the world in many of the largest mining operations and are recognised as one of the most reliable and efficient pumping systems available. Constructed from the highest quality materials, and manufactured to exacting tolerances, the S range is capable of producing 517 l/min at pressures up to 600 Bar.

Productivity by design

As a global leader in the supply of high-pressure and high-volume fluid pumping stations, RMI has been involved with the Chinese coal mining industry for over 30 years. It has been installing high pressure pumping systems in over 10 provinces across China and it has also established a sales and service network designed to provide extensive product support to this important market. Until this point, RMI, like many of its competitors, has applied for batch certification, which states that the product in question has met the applicable requirements; but the certification is only valid for a very restricted time. Any subsequent shipments, even of the same model, from the same factory would require a new certificate. In order to simplify the importation process for the increasing numbers of high pressure pumps be sold to the Chinese mining industry, RMI submitted applications for the entire product range over 2 years ago and has been working through the process ever since. This has involved technical reviews, a factory audit and random product testing before a general review ultimately led to the 5 year approval certificate being issued.

The certificates are issued by the Mining Products Safety Approval and Certification Centre (MA Centre) and they encompass the entire pump range from the S200 up to the S500 pump station, in both water and emulsion configurations, as well as the PC21 control system. Coupled with the recent move to a new headquarters in Manchester, RMI is expecting to reduce lead times and improve sales even further within the Chinese market. For over 100 years, the company’s research and manufacturing facilities have consistently delivered innovative, practical solutions for customers across the globe. With particular expertise within the mining industry, both above and below ground, many of RMI's most popular products include certifications and approvals from some of the world's leading mining organisations. RMI brings new high pressure pump stations on line The new Streamline range of pump stations has been developed specifically for the second tier mines and has been created using a standard product offering. This approach has allowed RMI to increase the scale of production, and therefore reduce the manufacturing costs for the range without reducing any of the safety and reliability factors.

As China aims to improve its coal mine safety record, it is investing in new, large-scale mining operations with modern equipment, while also improving the safety and productivity of the medium sized enterprises. In order to assist this initiative, RMI has launched a range of high pressure pump stations which are designed to provide a cost-effective pumping system; predominantly used for powering the roof support systems. RMI Pressure Systems has been involved with the Chinese coal mining industry for 30 years, installing high pressure pumping systems in over 10 provinces across China. It has also established a sales and service network designed to provide extensive product support to this important market. With safety and reliability being improved, especially in the largest mines, attention is now being focussed on the smaller mines.

Based around its S range of pumps, RMI has developed six models in the Streamline range; three for emulsion systems and three for water systems. Renowned for producing one of the most reliable reciprocating pumps in the mining industry, RMI has maintained its focus on material selection and machining tolerances which ensure it continues to deliver high efficiency and excellent reliability. The emulsion systems are supplied with three S375 pumps, which operate as duty, assist and standby and are supplied by two tanks. The water systems operate with two S300 pumps, on a duty/standby arrangement, and come with one supply tank. Both systems are controlled by the same, well proven, technology which is found on the existing range of larger pumping stations. For further details on the Streamline range contact RMI Pressure Systems by e-mail: rmimining@armlink.com

The use of high pressure pumps, up to 1,000 bar, is widely seen in a variety of industries, including mining, steel production and oil & gas, each of which presents its own set of challenges. In industries such as these, where production losses during unplanned downtime can be astronomical, reliability is crucial. OE manufacturer innovation is therefore essential in order to reduce costs associated with maintenance and operation. Lee Derbyshire, Engineering Manager at RMI Pressure Systems, offers an insight into the design of the latest Quinmax S500 pumping system. The designers at RMI have used their years of experience in the mining, power generation and manufacturing environments to produce a versatile product that is capable of operating in a multitude of situations. The S500 is designed such that all the working parts are totally enclosed, enabling it to operate in dust laden and other hazardous atmospheres. The use of the highest quality materials, manufactured to exacting standards, ensures that the final product will provide continuous, reliable performance. This has been proven in the field by the numerous pumps

which have been delivered into critical applications, such as mining roof support systems. Having completed a yearlong field trial in 2011, the Quinmax S500 high pressure pumping system was awarded full acceptance for applications above and below surface from UK Coal Ltd. Due to its increased flow rate and superb reliability record, UK Coal was able to run an entire face of a longwall mine with a single pump and save approximately £24,000 in energy costs at the same time. Tape application made easy Biemme Adesivi, a major tape distributor and converter in northern Italy serving clients since 1965, established Enimac in 2013. Biemme was never fully satisfied with the tape application machines offered on the market, and so began developing their own. After several years of testing and given early clients’ very positive feedback, Biemme decided to form a separate company and make their products available worldwide. Enimac designs and produces standard and custom tape application systems and manufactures both stand-alone systems and solutions that can be integrated into production processes.

self-calibrating photocell for accurate reading of transparent, white, black, coloured and die-cut materials. It is equipped with micrometric adjustment for product thickness of up to 10mm and can paste and cut tape up to 1mm thick at up to 35m/min.

Martin Buerger, International Business Development & Export Manager at Enimac, commented: “Our goal is to provide customers the degree of automation that makes the most sense for them. Though our standard systems are mainly sold in the printing, packaging and graphic arts industries, we have also developed solutions for the electronics, furniture and automotive industries.”

The X-treme PRO Wide Format Tape Application System also offers many benefits for users. With a maximum product width of 1,600mm, it easily accommodates the largest formats of offset printing and many formats of digital printing. With up to 6 independently programmable patented ‘paste and cut’ applicators, the system can accurately paste and cut tape up to 2mm thick including 3M VHB at speeds up to 50m/min to posters, floor stands, PVC, Forex and much more.

“Our systems use our patented ‘paste & cut’ technology that quickly and cleanly applies tape without the need for compressed air. This reduces maintenance costs and makes our machines very mobile: our standard systems can come to the work instead of having the work come to them. Moving the applicator heads to the desired position and adjusting for product thickness is fast and hassle-free. We use only quality components to ensure there is no untimely breakage of parts and data input is straightforward, logical and easy using a touchscreen.” “As we are part of a tape converting group, we don’t just sell our customers automation, but complete tape application solutions. Many of the problems we have seen before, we can deal with them using our years of expertise.” With offices and production facilities based near Milan, Italy, the company has satisfied clients in Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, the UK, and South Korea. Enimac ships products worldwide and offers support for customers whenever and wherever needed. One of Enimac’s most innovative products is the tape application system, X-Treme Light. The automatic adhesive tape application system has a manual feed and

Enimac are currently planning to move into larger premises in order to cope with the rising demand for products. The company recently attended IPEX 2014 in London and received a fantastic response. Martin commented: “The show gave us great international exposure reducing our dependence on one market.” Coming up shortly will be IPACK-IMA in Milan in May, 2015 where we will be introducing extensions to our tape applicator head line. We are also preparing for DRUPA 2016 and several others are being considered.

Smiling Faces ‘Up in Lights’ range

The Spring Fair is the largest exhibition in the UK, and notably Europe’s leading showcase of home and gift products. Taking place every February at the NEC Birmingham, the annual event has been running for 65 years and acts as the ultimate platform for suppliers to present their current ranges and launch new products.

Smiling Faces officially launched the fabulous ‘Up in Lights’ range in Hall 6 at this year’s Spring Fair. It was our most successful show ever and the orders came in so thick and fast that half way through the show we had reached maximum allocation for the March and April shipments, and were quoting May delivery for new customers! There was a real buzz about the show and customers that had taken Up in Lights prior to the show on test were incredibly complimentary,

Handmade Textile Gifts Dangly Hearts Ltd were delighted to be exhibiting for the first time at Spring Fair 2015 within the design lab area. The exquisite range of heart themed, handmade textile gifts was very well received by visitors to the stand, along with the tissue packs and the rabbit and moon cushion with the ever popular phrase ‘I love you to the moon & back’ embroidered on the front. The new collection of printed cards and tea towels, produced from original stitched designs, also proved a major hit. Duck to the future! The idea for Duck Tags was hatched in Cornwall during the autumn of 2014. Having successfully retailed ducks in various forms for many years we decided on reinventing the product. Ducks had always been personalised with names and latterly given boots or hats made from balsa, but we decided that now was the time for ‘duck couture.’ We set about designing a range of quality outfits that any duck would be proud to be seen in. No more naked ducks in the corner hiding their modesty with a carefully positioned name tag. Now your duck can live up to all its expectations and ambitions. Twickenham waits for the feathered ‘Fly Half’ adorned in national team colours flying across the pitch to touch down between the posts.

‘The Old Bill’ keeps order at the game in his silver buttoned policeman's tunic, a veritable ‘Duckson of Dock Green!’ As the rain comes down most of the spectators get wet but it’s literally water off a ducks back for ‘Lovely Weather for Ducks’ buttoned down in her mac and sheltered from the elements in her sou’ wester. Duck Tags have given the ducks wings and clothed them for the 21st century giving retailers the chance to capitalise once again on this most popular of breeds. The initial launch sees 16 ducks hit the shelves this Summer 2015 and with both the quality and humour they will most definitely be flying out. Many more ideas are in the pipeline to add to this collectable range and after-market

Travel and expense management Travel and expense management is a major focus for companies. In view of the recent economic downturn and the increasingly strict regulation on corporate governance, it is even more important for businesses to get their expenses in order. With the right policy, processes and systems in place, significant gains can be made in terms of efficiency and savings, as well as improved compliance. According to a report by the Aberdeen Group, an authority on travel and expense management research around the world, only 28% of UKbased businesses have real-time visibility into travel and expense (T&E) and are spending against budget and only 32% are reporting regularly on policy compliance. Managing your travel and expenses will mean tackling three main areas: policy, processes and systems. Recruiting a service based software support solutions company will help businesses maintain these 3 areas as well as redeeming the benefits of corporate travel, making claims easier and reducing the stress. Simple, Flexible, Integrated Solutions UK have chosen Traveldoo Technologies UK as its selected go to company for Travel and Expense services due to its

+THE TIMBER ENGINEERING EXPERTS Scotts Timber Engineering is an exciting new company that has been established in the West Midlands, with the support and resources of a well established and respected family business, Scotts of Thrapston. This new, innovative company specialises in timber engineering, taking the benefits of environmentally friendly timber as a construction material and exploiting its strengths to achieve 21st century design solutions. Scotts Timber Engineering personnel have the expertise to design and supply high quality roof trusses, easi-joist metal web beams, spandrel panels, feature trusses and timber frame solutions for almost any application.

+TRUSSED RAFTERS +QUALITY ROOF TRUSSES Roof trusses (or trussed rafters) are widely accepted as an economical method of providing a structural frame for a wide variety of roof profiles. Scotts Timber Engineering, based in the West Midlands, can offer their friendly and expert advice to create a trussed rafter roof for your application, whether domestic housing, commercial or industrial buildings. At the forefront of modern roofing technology, Scotts is fully committed to upholding the highest industry standards. +WHAT ARE ROOF TRUSSES? Roof trusses are individually designed pre-fabricated timber components made from strength-graded timber and joined together with punched metal plate connectors. They provide a structural framework to support the roof fabric of a building, ceilings and floors. Pre-fabricated timber trussed rafters are used in over 90% of all modern housing developments and an ever increasing proportion of commercial buildings. Roof Trusses from Scotts Timber Engineering offer the benefit of being manufactured from high grade softwood, a renewable resource, in quality controlled factory conditions to achieve the most efficient design as well as inherent Health and Safety benefits.

+TIMBER SPANDREL PANELS Spandrel panels are offered by Scotts Timber Engineering, as part of their roofing package, to provide the UK construction market with a pre-assembled solution for use in separating walls or external gables. Spandrel Panels are used to replace the need for a masonry wall, are easy to install and comply with current building regulations, making them an obvious choice for the housebuilding market. +WHY USE SPANDREL PANELS? As timber spandrel panels are manufactured off site, they save valuable time on site and thus are a cost-effective solution for most construction projects. Their main benefits:

• Complement the roof trusses supplied by Scotts Timber Engineering • Takes days, if not weeks, off the build programme • Easy to install, removing the need for masonry walls in the roof space • Bespoke design and manufacture to suit most roof designs • Manufactured to meet all fire and sound requirements, as outlined in the latest building regulations and Robust Details • Energy efficient as timber is a renewable resource • Health and Safety benefits against building high gables walls in blockwork.

Making the most of mineral resources As a leading provider of specialised mineral materials and services for a range of industrial sectors, Francis Flower recovers, reclaims and recycles material from industry for the benefit of its customers and the environment. With over 50 years’ experience in milling, grinding, blending and storage of fine mineral powders, Francis Flower is equipped to fine mill more than 400,000 tonnes of mineral every year to as low as 40 microns. Its locations in Somerset, Cheshire and Cambridge, all have extensive silo storage facilities enabling multiple materials to be processed rapidly and without risk of contamination. Francis Flower is the owner of the innovative UK market leading brand, Gypsol. The environmentally friendly anhydrite flowing screed binder is the forefront of liquid screed development and innovation. The Gypsol brand has grown significantly since its creation two years ago and has gained the majority of the market. Made mainly from a recycled material, Gypsol Screeds offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to labour intensive and problematic traditional sand cement screeds. Paul Pepper, Managing Director of Francis Flower, commented: “The Gypsol product is a highly useful, innovative creation. Since introducing the product to the market 2 years

ago, we have received a fantastic amount of interest and sales have soared. We provide the basis for your company to produce a high quality floor screed and we create the demand in the market for you to sell into. “Whether you are an architect, main contractor, self-builder or a flooring contractor, we offer the best advice so you have all the information necessary to maximise the benefit of Gypsol in your project.” The Solida system from Francis Flower (Northern) Ltd is designed to offer the mass housing market a highly cost-effective, efficient and environmentally friendly floor solution that combines easily accessible, existing technologies in innovative ways. The first process in changing to the Solida system involves the introduction of underfloor heating technologies into ground and separating floors in combination with GYPSOL based flowing anhydrite floor screeds. For surprisingly little increase in build cost, the Solida system delivers significant improvement in desirability and asset value, increased levels of useable space, reductions in heating operating costs and improvements in energy efficiency. Currently the mass housing market in general uses solid concrete or suspended type ground floors with timber joisted separating floors. In general the heating systems used are radiator central heating systems. The Solida system seeks to change this, such that the heating systems are underfloor heating on all floors coupled with energy efficient heat sources such as condensing gas boiler systems or renewable heat technologies such as air or ground source heat pumps which may be more appropriate to higher code and carbon neutral developments. The first principal of the Solida system is therefore the introduction of energy efficient underfloor heating systems along with

16

GYPSOL screeds. There are a number of potential positive side effects of this. When a change is made from radiators to underfloor heating the occupier gains more useable space in each room by virtue of the fact that they no longer need to avoid placing furniture against radiators. The generally accepted figure for this is 8% to 10% more useable space. This offers a number of practical and commercial opportunities to the house builder. Paul explained: “We have seen based on evaluations by, and discussions with, major house builders that the use of underfloor heating, given the above points offers greater desirability to purchasers. In some markets this has enabled the builder to offer higher asset value to buyers.

using anhydrite screeds can improve the co-efficient of performance of an underfloor heating system by up to 25%. Additionally flow temperatures can be reduced by some 40 to 50 Celcius compared to the temperatures required for radiator systems or some 10 to 15 Celcius compared to underfloor heating systems in traditional sand cement screeds. This all adds to the desirability and helps justify a higher selling price. This also helps the builder to achieve higher code levels where required and to gain extra code credits in coded sustainable developments. “The system offers added value due to increased useable floor space, improved desirability and “kerb appeal,” reduced energy use and subsequent cost savings to occupiers/owners, improved environmental profile and future proof design for higher code values.” The use of GYPSOL based screeds over the underfloor heating systems reduces the operating costs of the heating system. Tests using efficient and correctly designed underfloor heating systems have shown that

An accountable security company Acclaimed Security is an awardwinning security provider which has gone from strength to strength ever since its establishment back in 2002. The company, based in Leeds, has the capability to offer businesses all over the country a whole host of security measures, including Key Holding and Alarmed Response, CCTV Monitoring, Mobile Patrols and Security Guarding. Acclaimed Security has a dedicated work team of specially trained officers, guards and office staff on hand to protect individual companies and their personnel. The respected suppliers boast some of the highest accreditations in the industry, utilising the most up-to-date technology and ensuring complete compliance with pre-agreed security plans to allow peace of mind for each client. Their award-winning GuardSafe product has fast become a highly valued asset within the industry, as the unique tool alerts companies and their clients that a guard is present at the site (within seconds of their arrival). This advanced item of technology verifies that the guard is where they should be; providing customers with an assurance that their business is being properly patrolled and safely supervised. According to Roy Unwin, Managing Director of Acclaimed Security, this is one of the main benefits of the equipment: “One of the biggest problems in this area relates to the certainty of results – most people can’t be sure whether the people they hire can be trusted to do a good job,” he explained.

“Security guards can get tired and fed up whilst working 12 hour shifts and drop to sleep – at Acclaimed Security this won’t happen because our routines and systems are specifically designed to tackle this issue. Our technology can track precise movements through hourly calls, mobile responses and periodic checks, with the GuardSafe troll logging system operating on a realtime basis. “This ensures that clients have access to the specific times of calls and patrols – meaning they can rest assured the job is being done properly and that both premises and occupants are safe and free from intrusion. This is an extremely unique feature because it usually isn’t possible to check what is happening at an establishment right there and then.” As well as the Manned Guarding Services, Key Holding and Alarmed Response Services are also available. This is designed explicitly for instances whereby property is left unoccupied for any period of time and out-of-hours access is likely to be required. Policies can be put into place to ensure the correct individuals have access to the premises at any time, upon the specifications decided by the company. This service is a safe, trustworthy and extremely cost-effective solution to issue that often preoccupies many businesses.

The security specialist employs a mobile fleet of both marked and unmarked vehicles operated by trained officers utilising video recording equipment to ensure properties are kept safe and secure, reducing crime and increasing awareness. This service, which merges the advantages of high visibility deterrence with

immediate response capabilities, can be tailored specifically to suit individual needs. According to Roy, the fact they are an instant response company makes them further stand out from their competitors: “We have a reputation for getting to locations immediately once alarms are triggered; this speed of response makes us a superior organisation as in some cases it can take hours for organisations to arrive.” Acclaimed Security’s security measures have been utilized by a number of industrial and commercial outlets and well-regarded blue-chip companies including Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Leeds City Council, Freight Liner, Tarmac, Seabrook Crisps, Vion Foods, Brake Brothers and Liberty Living. Their extensive customer base is testament to the industry leading standard of service offered by Acclaimed Security. Indisputably, security is of paramount importance for any business, and all safety equipment and procedures should be reviewed regularly in order to keep ahead of the times and ensure current systems are fit for the job in hand and won’t be compromised. Building, Health & Safety News

Specialist supplier HFS-Fleetcam meets the need for growing safety requirements on commercial vehicles When manoeuvring commercial vehicles at low speed there is an increased risk of injuring pedestrians or damaging your vehicle and surrounding objects. This is especially challenging for high cabs with limited vision. Not only that, if you run a fleet of commercial vehicles, even the smallest scrape can cost thousands in damages, lost productivity and legal bills. Operators looking to work with Transport for London, certain London Boroughs and large-scale infrastructure schemes like CrossRail, are also increasingly finding the requirement to install additional safety equipment on their vehicles to comply with the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FLOR).

Research* has shown that in-vehicle camera systems can dramatically reduce at-risk driving behaviours by 50-70%. This leads to safer, more efficient and more ethical driving. Fleet operators can also benefit from greater productivity and reduced insurance premiums after installing vehicle safety cameras. HFS-Fleetcam offers specialist advice to help businesses understand the steps they need to take to be compliant, then supplying and installing the latest safety equipment into their vehicles. It has one of the most comprehensive range of vehicle CCTV camera systems and proximity detection equipment in the UK and a team of experienced engineers on hand to

install and service them. Ranges include Traffic Angel – from the StepProtect front and Traffic Sense nearside safety sensor systems (to reduce accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians) to the TA1 camera and sensor combination and the TA2 multichannel vehicle digital video recording system to provide the crucial evidence needed in the event of an incident. Also the Mi-Witness HD Vehicle CCTV Accident Recording System for private vehicles and small fleets as well as specialist systems for buses and trailers.

The system can pump up to 420 litres per minute at 83 bar pressure or up to 200 litres per minute at 100 bar pressure. Installing three Hydra-Cell pumps means three times the flow as they are true positive displacement pumps. This is not the case in a centrifugal pump system. With HydraCell pumps the flow is maintained but the friction losses manifest themselves in increased system pressure. The multiple pump system where all three pumps take suction from a common manifold and discharge into a common header is reported to be ideal in situations where some flow needs to be maintained continuously and system shutdown is not an option. Minimal routine maintenance requirements can be easily accommodated while maintaining up to 60% of the rated flow and should a pump or motor go down it can be replaced while the rest of the system is still functioning.

The system produces a virtually pulseless flow and is extremely accurate, exceeding the performance requirements of API 675 in terms of flow repeatability, steady state accuracy and linearity. Some users choose the three pump option using two pumps to achieve service while keeping one for back-up. In many instances, where footprint is not an issue, the three pump approach can save on acquisition costs and energy costs while improving the overall reliability and efficiency of the system.
