our product line in order to achieve greater interest and success.” One of RHEINTACHO’s most notable products is the Hand-tachometer, a special Rotaro adapter which measures welding wire speed and length.

The longstanding company was founded back in 1919 when it was initially named Foundrometers Ltd. It was in 1980 when it successfully took over the instrument division of Harding of Leeds and subsequently built itself a reputable status as an industry leader recognised worldwide. The business has now been a subsidiary of the German company RHEINTACHO Messtechnik GmbH for over a decade. The manufacturer, which is based in Leeds, specialises in the production, provision and repair of mechanical and electrical instruments for the measurement of rotational movement. Its all-ranging selection of quality products includes handheld tachometers, portable & fixed stroboscopes, speed sensors and mechanical & electrical tachometers which are all manufactured across two sites in the UK and Germany.

This specialist piece of equipment is an ideal tool for both the preparation and documentation of welding procedure specifications (WPS) and welding procedure approvals (WPQR). The ATEX approved Mechanical HandTachometer aids measurement in potentially explosive areas; its distinct design ensures the RPM and surface speed on many applications can be accurately monitored. “What makes us stand out from competitors is our high level of quality, our flexibility and speed in connection with delivery reliability and spare parts or repairs,” commented Paul Hargraves, Director of RHEINTACHO UK. “In addition, our parent company is also a specialist supplier of sensor technology as a complement technology to our ever expanding range of mechanical and electrical products.”

RHEINTACHO Messtechnik GmbH recently launched its new qbLED portable stroboscope range. Despite being introduced just last year, these high-performance stroboscopes are already in use by several customers and have been methodically tested in practical test scenarios.

Introducing the OMEGA HHLT-1T Ultrasonic Leak Detector OMEGA’S new series of CE Compliant ultrasonic leak detector features an ultrasonic sound range of 20 to 100 kHz. Leaking air or gas is generally considered to be viscous flow and as the flow velocity increases, the frequency of the ultrasonic sound emitted will become higher. The HHLT-1R amplifies and converts these sounds to frequencies and levels that the human ear can hear. The HHLT1T transmitter can supply ultrasonic signals for locations where the gas/air leak does not have sufficient pressure to create an ultrasonic sound. The HHLT-1 series is ideal for pressure and vacuum system leak detection exhaust, system tanks and pipe leak testing as well as steam trap inspection and gas leaks in general. “As with all good products, the original Muller’s cart was created out of a need for something better.” The humble beginnings of the Smart Cart In 1975, Brigadier General Henry Muller of Santa Barbara in California realised that his 60 year old wife was struggling to man the wheelbarrow in their stable without back pain. Understanding how much his wife loved her horses, he set to designing and creating the first easy to use, lightweight, durable, well-balanced stable cart in the market which he called The Muller’s Stablemate. It became successful in the American market, was renamed ‘The Muller’s Smart Cart’ and is now made in Goreham, Maine. Four years ago, David Fortune’s wife purchased a Smart Cart having seen one belonging to a friend. He put it together

for her and thought it was a fantastic product. Later, after discovering that his aged mother’s gardener was struggling to dispose of grass cuttings from her vast lawns, he decided to buy her one but discovered that they were no longer available in the UK. David ordered her Smart Cart directly from Maine and offered to be Muller’s Smart Carts’ new distributor in the UK. They appointed him and Smart Carts UK was born. What makes the Smart Cart so ‘smart’? “The carts are perfectly balanced, they are light, easily manoeuvrable and very little lifting is required. They’re also built to last decades – 20 to 30 years is not unusual. “The weight of the load in a Smart Cart in motion is balanced over the wheels. Unlike the traditional wheelbarrow design – with a single wheel at one end of the tub and lifting required on the other end – only a little leverage – not lifting of the Smart Cart – is necessary to move the centre of gravity over the wheels, making the cart ideal for those with mobility issues and back pain. Its pair of wheels makes it completely stable and controllable with one hand. “Due to the materials used in a Smart Cart, they are known to last well over 25 years,” David continued. “Each product comes with a 5 year warranty, but the combination of the aircraft quality aluminium alloy frame, the steel cross member, axle and wheels and the exceptionally tough, high

impact polyethylene of the tub makes the cart tough, light and virtually indestructible.” How can your Smart Cart transform your daily life? “Wherever you use the carts, whether in the garden, in the stable or on the farm, they are incredibly versatile. Rust resistant and leak free, whatever the season. A Smart Cart makes child’s play out of transporting your straw, hay, feed or heavy fertiliser from A to B. An easily connected tow bar is available to turn your cart into a trailer behind an ATV, even over rough ground. Fill it with ice, beer and wine and your summer party will go with a swing! Gardeners will rejoice in this long-lasting wheelbarrow alternative. The great ‘tip forward’ design makes it simple to unload soil, grass cuttings and even paving stones. Originally designed specifically for stable work, the Smart Cart makes mucking out a pleasure it never used to be!” With huge capacity (7 and 12 cu ft options), two colours and wheel sizes (16” and 20” diameter) available, why not invest in a Smart Cart? Pro-mats: The Small-Scale Project That Made a Massive Difference When the artificial grass, rubber play surfacing and skate park specialists Pro-mats were approached by a lady in Birmingham with a specific gardening request they rose to the occasion with great determination and enthusiasm. The client had recently secured longterm foster care of a young autistic girl with a particular fondness of the outdoors; following pathways and feeling different textures. During the consultation it became known that the customer – who was currently undergoing cancer treatment – was becoming increasingly frustrated that she couldn’t always take her daughter to the local park, and wanted a safe place for her to play whilst in the comfort of her own home.

Subsequently, the Pro-mats team set to work on creating a cost-effective solution that would function in a relatively small area. The effect of the different textures was achieved by applying four separate types of artificial grass and a bonded rubber pathway, which circled in various directions in order to fulfil the client’s brief in its entirety. Further additions included artificial grass footsteps in the rubber pathway (to provide yet another texture transition) and the installation of a new gate to secure the area. The outcome was a garden that looked completely different, was very low maintenance and could be used all year round! Once the project was complete, the

client was so thrilled with the final result that she broke down in tears, claiming that the transformation of her garden was ‘so meaningful’ and ‘life-changing.’ This incredible case study is just one example of how the Midlands-based group have made a significant impact with their customisable services; the Pro-mats team can offer their refined capabilities on an even larger scale to commercial clients in and around Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, Lichfield, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Solihull, Coventry, Redditch and Bromsgrove. Commitment to Excellence

For all your heating and water needs Building Solutions UK is extremely proud to present its highly prestigious Commitment to Excellence profile to H.D. Services Ltd. Established in 1988 by Frank Harris, a Civil Engineer experienced in soil mechanics and well drilling, H.D Services was initially set up as a cable percussion drilling and sewage treatment installation company. A high demand for services and rapid growth led the company to split its operations and H.D. Drilling, a subsidiary company, was established leaving H.D. Services to continue with bespoke sewage treatment installations. “H.D. Services Ltd offers a one stop shop for self-builders, developers and contractors providing water solutions, water supplies and heating options, specifically tailored to their needs and suited to the geology of south east England,” commented Rebecca Taylor, GSHP Business Development Manager at H.D Services. “We work hard to ensure that the highest quality workmanship and service is delivered to our customers/clients and we take pride in our approach to our work. We do not employ external consultants to design, agents to sell or sub-contractor labour to install – all work is completed in-house.” For many years, H.D. Services focused on the design, supply, installation and maintenance of bespoke sewage treatment systems and have worked for the National Trust, RSPB, various county and borough councils as well as hundreds of domestic clients and estates, complying with all relevant legislation and Environment Agency (EA) requirements.

your home in our operational area, but also do less damage to the aquifers than drilling for closed-loop borehole systems, as predominantly these use the rotary drilling method. We aim to provide the highest quality open-loop ground source heat pump service available in South East England.” The subsidiary company, H.D. Drilling, undertakes all drilling works associated with all installations. Specialising in drilling the chalk aquifers, H.D. Drilling use only the cable percussion drilling method, preferred by the EA when drilling into the chalk. Rebecca commented, “Through H.D Drilling, we aim to provide the highest quality, percussion-drilled water supply borehole service available in the South East.”

These advanced Sewage Treatment Systems, the HD-SM, are designed bespoke to meet the needs of individual clients along with expert advice and servicing.

Based in Ashley Green, Bucks, the family run company’s operational area covers the entire of the South East, from Wiltshire to Suffolk and Isle of Wight up to Cambridgeshire. Their innovative services benefit a wide range of customers including self-builders, small developers/contractors, architects and small commercial projects. They also have experience of working on single domestic dwellings for small contractors and selfbuilders and on pub chains and churches.

In 2009 the company expanded into renewable heating with its division HD Geothermal, and now also offer open-loop ground source heat pump (GSHP) system design, supply, installation and maintenance.

H.D Services have been recognised for their exceptional products and services as RHI Installer of the Year for the South East at the Green Deal and ECO Awards 2015, and were nominated for the national award.

H.D. Services is one of a handful of companies in the UK who install open-loop ground source heat pumps for the domestic market, which are the most efficient ground source heat pump option. While closed loop GSHP installations extract heat via an antifreeze solution pumped through loop pipe to extract heat from the ground in which it is buried, open-loop GSHP installations utilise ground water as a heat source.

Focused on quality, the company are also members of the Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA), Renewable Energy Association (REA), Well Drillers Association (WDA) and British Geological Survey (BGS). They also subscribe to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC).

The innovative system will use the ground water and pump it directly into the heat pump unit where the heat is extracted. No chemicals are used in the ground. Some closed Loop GSHP’s can be converted to utilise water as a heat source; however as they are not specifically designed for this purpose, the efficiency of this unit will fall meaning that the overall system will be less efficient. Rebecca explained, “We seek to provide knowledge on this type of system as it is regularly overlooked and is in the shadow of the closed-loop phenomenon. We strongly believe that the open-loop ground source heat pump systems we design and install are not only the most efficient way to heat

01206 306 600

When asked what the future holds for the company, Rebecca concluded: “Ultimately, we wish to develop our knowledge base and become involved with the installation of Under Floor Heating (UFH) to enable us to offer a full heating installation package. “We are also considering becoming involved with Air Source Heat Pumps as many of our domestic clients enquire about heat pumps as a way to heat their outdoor swimming pool. ASHP is a more suitable renewable technology for this purpose. “Our customers rely on our advice and flexibility to suit their individual requirements and we associate ourselves with like-minded suppliers. As a contractor committed to the highest service standards, H.D. Services is dedicated to completing contracts on time. “With our experience in drilling and the installation of open-Loop Ground Source Heat Pumps, H.D. Services Ltd are able to provide a one-stop solution for the domestic market throughout the South-East England.” T +44 (0)1494 792000 enquiries@thehdgroup.co.uk www.hdservicesltd.co.uk www.hdgeothermal.co.uk

that works like it,” commented Martin. “Every tool bag should have one.” “Because we wanted a quality product, we held out until we had a prototype that was well constructed,” added Martin’s wife and business partner Jenny. “The tool cuts the time it takes to do the job in half, giving tradesmen the opportunity to significantly shorten what can be a very long, inaccurate and frustrating procedure.”

Introducing the new revolutionary solution to marking surfaces when building, installing or measuring, Marxman. The invaluable tool can clearly mark any surface from tiles, walls, wood, brick, pebble dash, metal and even oily metal. Replacing all conventional methods of marking, the simple British made product eliminates difficulties commonly experienced in the marking and drilling of surfaces by both professional tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts alike.

Increasing efficiency and ease, Marxman delivers a surge of brightly coloured dry chalk when pressed into fixing holes of varying depths and diameters, spraying a visible dot. When pushed directly onto a surface both models spray a cross for a reference point, making building, installing and measuring a stress-free process for workers everywhere, and the chalky burst is easy to brush off most surfaces afterwards so it isn’t problematic if a mistake is made!

Self-employed maintenance man Martin Chard is the innovator behind this unique and exciting new company, set up in 2011. After encountering frequent frustrating incidents whilst fitting kitchens, bathrooms and putting up shelving, the entrepreneur decided to take the problem into his own hands and create a solution that would make marking drilling positions on any surface, easy, quick and clear. “Marxman is completely unique, there is no other product

to accordingly with heightened productivity and simplicity. The finished product was first introduced at the Totally DIY: Totally Tools 2015, where it proved to be a great success, clinching the prize of Best DIY Product. Marxman was selected for being ‘the most simple yet cunningly clever product with a true understanding of consumer needs that is both time-saving and well-communicated.’ “As a new product there is plenty of scope for development and expansion,” Jenny concluded. “We hope to improve the product by using varying colours for specific jobs, adding a lid and belt grip and then a light which catches the luminosity of the chalk. Press it, drill it, mark it is our tagline and that is exactly what Marxman does!” Marxman is currently on sale in small DIY, electrical and tile shops and via the company website at www.marxmanpen. co.uk. Parcels when you’re out The explosive growth in on-line shopping has created problems for delivery men and customers alike. To avoid trips to the sorting office or relying on helpful neighbours could be a thing of the past with the Sam Squirrel box. While there are many steel parcel boxes coming on the market this design has several unique features. Made from the same HDPE material as riot shields – but not transparent – it contains a large hinged door that is opened by a combination lock known only to the postman or parcel courier. When goods are ordered on-line the customer adds the four pin

combination to the address which is printed on the waybill and delivery note. If you are out then the postman works the combination to open the door. If proof of delivery is required, then the unique barcode inside the door can be read by the courier. (There is also a numeric code which can be tapped in.) The design includes a large letter slot as well that complies with the European standard. A major builder has asked Bob to produce a slightly slimmer version to enable the parcel box to be built in near the front door at a depth of one face brick and half the cavity. Alternatively, if the house has an outer wall it can be set in there so the gates do not need to be opened to accept a parcel. Bought in quantity the invoice can be issued at zero VAT but as a letterbox the Vat element is recoverable where bought in smaller quantities. This removes the need to provide a letter box in the front door and provides a safe parcel point at the same time. (For EPC 1 letterboxes and cat flaps are not permitted.) The price is £245 (incl delivery) and full details can be found on www.samsquirrelbox.com. There are significant discounts for quantity orders. No Win, No Fee Solicitor Professional Negligence and Construction Lister Lyons is a specialist Professional Negligence and Construction Dispute Resolution provider. We were founded by a group of specialist Barristers and Solicitors who were interested in extending this work to public through the use of no win no fee agreements. As an industry, construction professionals have always benefitted from access to the highest level of legal representation. This is a by-product of the professional insurance that we all have to carry. As an industry though, we have to recognise that our clients simply don’t have access to the kind of funding to allow them to hire a legal team to take on these professionals. With the growth of private buyers who are renovating, extending, and even self-building, they cannot fund a project and a legal action at the same time! Lister Lyons has developed strong associations with specialist legal insurers and third party funders who are prepared to take these cases and fund legal representation knowing that if the claim is successful they will get paid too. In our agreements with the client we make it clear that if the claim fails, we are prepared to write off costs.

CRL: Ten-year structural insurance & warranty of latent defects Until CRL’s ten-year structural defects insurance products were recommended to Nordic Construction UK, the national developer and contractor had been paying over-the-odds for the same level policies that were attached to household name providers. Nordic, a new company starting out in 2009, had ambitious growth plans. At a time when the property industry was suffering considerably, Nordic knew it was essential to scrutinise all outgoing costs and keep up its values of high standards. Its insurance policies had to be comprehensive and exact, and quickly underwritten to prove Nordic’s security. As a relatively new developer, Nordic knew it had to demonstrate unequivocally that it was a trustworthy and cost-effective contractor, delivering its clients’ schemes on time and within budget. Therefore, it had to be certain that its ten-year structural defects policies would not let them down. Mohammed Afzal, Commercial Manager, Nordic Construction, said, “Our sector is competitive and overrun with rogue contractors so it is vital for our fairly young company to sustain the highest construction standards, to assure clients of the long-term quality of the buildings.” In 2013, the developer won a significant £16million construction project to build a 339-bed mixed use student facility at Hope Street, Liverpool. Nordic was briefed to deliver the scheme in 18 months, by the end of Summer 2015. The project would be completed with fully-fitted kitchens and

VI

ensuite bathrooms, as well as communal facilities including a cafe, gym and restaurant and bar units. To deliver this major scheme that would project the firm into the next stage of its growth, Nordic could afford no room for error. The need for a reliable and competitive insurance provider was crucial. Nordic’s Project Manager recommended CRL to the Commercial Manager, Mohammed Afzal. From previous experience, the Project Manager knew that CRL competed positively with the wellknown providers. CRL’s standard ten-year structural defects insurance cover not only offered all the covenants of the well-known providers’ but its on-hand service was the reassurance project managers, architects, quantity surveyors and funders needed to ensure the success of a major construction project.

years after completion. Road Bonds – Property Developers and house builders can guarantee satisfactory delivery of roads and enable them to be adopted on completion by the contractor. Building Control Expertise – Large construction, small extension, or property modification. CRL works with inspectors to ensure the safety of builders and end-users. Developer insolvency cover – Guarding against situations that might risk a build’s completion and insurance against the insolvency of the property developer.

CRL’s ten-year structural defects insurance is not averse to unusual buildings and materials, and is based upon individual circumstances.

Upon practical completion of the Liverpool project at the end of August 2015, CRL’s ten-year structural defects insurance cover took effect and has been passed on to the tenants or owners of the apartments.

The insurance products cover: Structural Defects – Indemnity against defects in design, workmanship, materials or components of the property for ten

As a result of the competitive quotes and speed to deliver the warranty, CRL is now Nordic’s number one choice of provider.

Mohammed said, “Using CRL’s insurance cover has assisted us in keeping within construction budgets, and ultimately realising profit for our business.” “CRL has been a genuine partners on this project, with us every step of the way from tender stages to the completion of each project. They are more than a product supplier, they are a valuable addition to our project team, offering their advice and support along the way. “Our relationship with CRL has already proven to be effective and profitable and they will remain on our preferred supplier framework as our go-to provider for structural defects insurance.” Contact T 0800 772 3200 info@c-r-l.com www.c-r-l.com

Roofing News

Mortar bedding ridge tiles Mortar bedding of ridge, hip and verge tiles has been a common practice for hundreds of years. But why do we use mortar for this purpose? Originally clay roof tiles were made by the same people that made the bricks for houses, and it was the builders who installed them. Therefore, it was not unusual for the builder to use lime mortar to fill in or secure edge tiles in order to prevent rain, snow and wind blowing into the roof and doing further damage. This type of mortar was made from lime putty mixed with sand, and was the only kind of mortar available for several hundred years. The invention of sand and cement mortar hundreds of years later allowed a much harder material to be produced which would not dissolve during severe storms. However, like many good things, this also has some disadvantages. Buildings expand and contract more than we would like to believe and sand and cement mortar is far less able to cope with this movement than lime mortar was, which never really set. When castles were all made of stone, movement was not much of an issue, unless you were under attack from cannonballs! However, over the years we have introduced many different materials into our buildings, and each one of them will expand and contract at a different rate

and speed. In addition, some will react to moisture while others will not. As a result, today’s structures, whilst very stable, are far from rigid and need the ability to move at every interface; where a brick wall meets a window, where a floor meets a wall, where a partition meets a ceiling, and where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Therefore, the last thing you want is a material that is too rigid, and brittle, which is often the case with cement and sand roof mortar. Whilst there are indeed examples of cement and sand mortar performing well on concrete roofs for over 80 years, the recent past has seen increasing numbers of more modern roofs where mortar bedding has failed within 10 years. It is for this reason that the NHBC now insist that all ridge and hip tiles are mechanically fixed. This has allowed the manufacturers of dry-fix systems and alternative tile fixing products such as Flexim Roof Putty, to supply roofers with components that eliminate the need for mortar bedding. While the trade media has been

full with various manufacturers promoting the benefits of their latest dry-fix product, the core issue in terms of what has actually caused mortar bedding failures appears to have been forgotten. Firstly, where concrete and resin slate tiles are formed on a metal mould, the underside is usually treated with a soap or silicone mould release agent. Anyone who has tried sticking anything to a soap or silicone treated surface will know how difficult this can be! Secondly, many concrete-based roof tiles are coated on their top surface with a polymer coating, to reduce the risk of efflorescence forming on the top surface. This also makes the tiles look shiny, and helps to keep moss and algae from growing on the surface. But equally, it also makes it difficult for mortar to stick to the surface. It is hardly surprising, then, that cement and sand mortar bedding is failing on modern roofs, where the structure is flexing and the

mortar finds it difficult to stick to either the top or underside of a tile or ridge! The latest edition of BS 5534 requires that all ridges and hips are mechanically fixed, and that all edge tiles are twice fixed. It also states that the adhesive qualities of mortar bedding should be ignored when calculating wind uplift resistance, effectively classifying mortar as a filler. Nevertheless, this ability to fill holes is important, as it prevents wind, rain, snow, birds, insects and dust from entering a roof, where they can do further damage. So what is the perfect solution? Surely it would be a pre-mixed replacement for mortar that is simple to install and flexible. Thirty years ago just such a material was developed in the Netherlands, and it has been successfully used ever since both across Europe and worldwide. This product is Flexim Roof Putty. Rather than using lime putty as the base, Flexim uses a modified linseed oil putty, which is mixed with polystyrene beads and fibres to give it strength, while remaining flexible enough to cope with the typical thermal movement of a modern roof.

is sponsored by HD Services | please turn to page III

Costs When time and labour are taken into account, Flexim is much cheaper than sand and cement. It is premixed and ready-to-use Health & Environment Flexim is formulated using natural ingredients and doesn’t harm the environment. And just as importantly from a health and safety perspective, the lightweight Flexim strips are not a back-breaker to transport onto the roof and install. Weather Flexim is instantly waterproof and, will not wash out after application, eliminating any need to return to the job side twice Guarantee & Certified Flexim is guaranteed for a period of 10 years, when installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and NHBC standards. It also complies with all regulations, as set by the BBA. A mechanically fixed ridge, hip or verge on a roof no longer has to be dry-fix, it can be bedded in Flexim Roof Putty, and still comply with BS 5534 and NHBC standards. At the heart of roofing When it comes to choosing a roofing contractor, it is obvious that this is something that shouldn’t be done hurriedly. You need a reliable and competent organisation who can work professionally and dependably, therefore it is highly important that you approach the subject with care. Step forward the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC): the trade association who have the capability to provide absolute confidence to both clients and members in the roofing industry, ensuring that the services received are second to none. Established in 1892, the NFRC is now considered to be the leading roofing trade association in the UK, representing over 70% of the industry by value. The wellestablished body currently comprises over 1,000 trade contractors and 173 supplier members (including manufacturers, suppliers and service providers). The NFRC’s main function is to guide trade members; enabling them to secure more work and raise their product sales. It also

operates to ensure that associates offer high levels of workmanship and quality business practice, remaining compliant with a stringent code of practice and an independent vetting procedure (which includes site inspections and familiarisation with industry standards). The experts are essentially the main representative of those working within the roofing industry. They provide technical advice for members and their customers, and schedule frequent committee meetings and dedicated focus groups to discuss any upcoming developments which may affect the ever-growing market. and test all the leading brands in the marketplace for performance and practicality – including the ease of fit, so we compared different models and specifications to propose to our clients and asked our installers for their input and they in particular liked the Boilermag features such as the 360 degree adjustment, and in-line fit capability. The UK Rainwater Management Association The population growth and fluctuations in rainfall patterns (caused by climate change) within the UK are two of the main impacting factors that contribute to the country’s increased vulnerability to both floods and droughts. In a bid to avoid future problems involving these extreme weather conditions, national and international agencies turn to the capabilities of the UK Rainwater Management Association (UKRMA). The trade association acts as the main point of reference for the many private-sector businesses, publicsector authorities & agencies and water utility companies engaged in the prevention of future floods and droughts.

The self-cleaning rain water dispersal system If you are fed up of clearing gutters and looking for an alternative, there is a highly efficient solution with easy to install Rainhandler. A European distribution agency has recently been set up in the Island for this product which is a proven and practical alternative to conventional gutters and downpipes. Instead of collecting the roof rainwater runoff and diverting it to a soakaway, the rainwater is allowed to fall on to angled louvres, projecting it away from

the building in the form of droplets. Invented in Massachusetts Institute of Technology Aeronautical Engineer, Rainhandler has been successfully used in America and other parts of the world for over two decades. It can be used on most types of roof and is especially beneficial when space is limited. It also eliminates the need for additional soakaways – a consideration when ground conditions may be unsuitable for a new soakaway

to be installed. Rainhandler is a simple and effective product that can be installed to both new and existing buildings by tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts alike. Each length is 1,500mm and comes with brackets and fixings, and is available in three standard colours – white, brown and aluminium mill finish. Stay out of trouble 2014 has proved to be another strong year for Robop Limited, acclaimed manufacturers of the Robop professional bird repellent systems. Robop Limited has been manufacturing robotic falcons, for which it holds several patents, since 2001 and has since installed its pioneering product in 15 different countries. Robop is a unique and effective, humane bird control system, making it possible to keep birds off your property without turning it into a fortress of nets and spikes, without annoying your neighbours with loud bangs, without harming the birds in any way and, crucially, for owners of large buildings, at a fraction of the cost of alternative approaches that provide a long-term solution.

manufactured here in the UK using precisionengineered components and other high quality materials to ensure a long, trouble-free lifecycle.

core characteristics of Robop, “We bring science and engineering to a field where cruel methods, crude technology and high labour costs predominate.

Each project is tackled on an individual basis, and over the 13 years Robop Limited have been in business, they have gathered the extensive experience and knowledge required to create bespoke complete bird deterring systems for a comprehensive array of applications.

“Our approach utilises robotic falcons for which we hold several patents and over the past 13 years we have developed these from a concept to a robust, precision-engineered product, proven time and time again in many challenging situations worldwide. The key to Robop’s success as a bird deterrent lies in the fact that it has been designed to look, move and sound like a real peregrine falcon in order to cause the same reaction as the real bird.”

The team at Robop are highly focused and dedicated to solving your bird control issues, using their own unique technology and engineering experience and have many successful installations that continue to save our customers considerable time, effort and money.

Committed to Service and Quality Wallguard Systems is the only UK supplier of Systexx glass fabric and the Opti range of coatings; this alone makes it a standout name in the industry. When you factor in that its team also specialises in the nationwide design, supply and installation of all passive fire protection systems, it is easy to see why the company has witnessed a outstanding success over the years.

range. “The glass fabric structures result in a flawless finish regardless of substrate quality, and they are quick and easy to apply (taking on average 25 square meters per hour).” “The Systexx system reduces initial labour preparation costs with future low-maintenance requisites and is a complete anti-bacterial system when finished with the OPTIBACT paint range (including anti-graffiti paint). These particular products include a magnetic wallcovering, which is suitable for use in schools, offices, hotels and hospitals (basically, in areas that demand high hardware and tear resistance).”

The business, which was established in November 2013, provides a glass fabric that is one of the most trusted materials for its unique characteristics. Glass fabrics share these characteristics with additional benefits: an extremely long life cycle and a permanent reinforcement of the substrate are just a few to name. The Systexx range comprises products best suited for areas which typically have high quantities of traffic. These items, which are carefully constructed using glass fabrics, significantly lessen maintenance cycles and subsequently, the ongoing maintenance costs (which can be exceedingly extortionate). As the glass fabrics provide great strength (and

therefore, high impact resistance), the Systexx range acts as the perfect problem solver, offering a level of function that other wall coverings simply cannot achieve – reinforcing and bridging cracks whilst ensuring the prevention of any further crevices.

“The Systexx wall coverings are fire-resistant and exceed the British Standard BS476 class 0 for spread of flame, whilst meeting the European Standard EN13823 B-21, D0,” explained Simon Brooke, Director at Wallguard Systems, when asked about this particular

fabric means that myriad designs and finishes can be ordered if preferred. Wallguard Systems are utilised extensively in various different industries and locations. Recent Systexx projects include Sheltered Housing and communal areas at Greenwich council. Then Brent Housing Partnership used the Systexx system for their properties communal areas.

The Systexx fire-resistant glass fabric wallcoverings are woven from glass yarn, creating a material that can be applied directly to walls without the need for pre-plastering or extensive preparation. Because these coverings come pre-pigmented and pre-pasted, they will be ready for painting once they have been fitted into place, speeding up the completion process considerably. In addition, the versatility of this

Sanondaf was established in Malta in 2011 and operated as a company owned business until 2014. The UK business was set up in May 2014 and in just 12 months the company have developed 15 franchise territories including as far South as Brighton and as far North as Glasgow, with the UK head office based in Lanarkshire.

The award winning company has developed a highly efficient touch-less disinfectant system that eliminates human error and costs less than traditional deep cleaning. Rivalling standard cleaning products and applications that don’t always reach the critical area, Sanondaf targets the source of the problem directly treating areas to Hospital Grade Disinfection levels.

achieve this award and recognition in our first 12 months of operations. The Business Franchise Show was also a great success resulting in us signing up a new franchisee and being able to demonstrate our system to the wider audience.

The Leeds-based business is a trusted provider of security measures recognised on a national scale for its excellency in providing cost-effective solutions ever since its establishment in 2002. Its status as one of the few Approved Contractors Scheme (ACS) approved businesses in the industry – alongside the fact the team have won over 15 awards in just the past couple of years alone – really sets Acclaimed Security apart from the rest. The well-respected company offers an array of services, such as: Key Holding & Alarmed Response, CCTV Monitoring, Mobile Patrols and Security Guarding. These premium quality solutions provide peace of mind for clients who want to rest assured that their properties, assets and employees will remain well protected at all points – and this can only be achieved through the installation of the latest security systems available. One of the Acclaimed Security’s most popular innovations is its groundbreaking GuardSafe system; fitted boxes slotted into the corners of a building, effectively monitoring four designated patrol routes. This award-

winning invention acts to instantly alert organisations when a guard is onsite, providing customers with complete confidence that their building is being safely supervised around the clock. “GuardSafe is a unique patrol logging system which works in real time,” detailed Roy Unwin, Managing Director of Acclaimed Security. “This means companies can have results within seconds – if there are any issues, they are flagged up immediately and dealt with accordingly. This is a vast difference to other businesses, whose results are typically provided after a much greater timespan – some can take as long as a month! We are proud to say that GuardSafe is a system exclusive to us; no-one else in the world has it.” Another celebrated success is Check-Call, a service monitoring the performance of a guard on-duty by ringing them hourly and checking they aren’t asleep on the job. This particular technology tracks the officer’s precise movements through routine calls, mobile responses and periodic checks to ensure the personnel are performing as they should be – and if the guards’ reasons to miss these calls are unsatisfactory then the Acclaimed Security supervisors will be on hand to assess the situation and act appropriately. The security specialist has served

numerous industrial and commercial outlets and well-regarded blue-chip companies including Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Leeds City Council, Freight Liner, Tarmac, Seabrook Crisps, Vion Foods, Brake Brothers and Liberty Living. Its far-reaching customer base is testament to the industry-leading standard of service offered by the team of highly qualified and knowledgeable experts. Roy was particularly pleased to mention that Acclaimed Security had recently secured a huge contract with AS K9 Ltd, an organisation working in accordance with canines to combat terrorism, drug control and general wrongdoing. This partnership involves the expert training of military dogs, explosion detection dogs, drug detection dogs and general attack dogs. Top safety rating for Waste Managers National independent waste management company Cleansing Service Group (CSG) has been awarded accreditation from Safecontractor for its commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety. Safecontractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme which recognises high standards in health and safety management amongst UK contractors. Safecontractor say that its accreditation will enhance the Fareham-based company’s ability to attract new contracts, and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.

Under the Safecontractor scheme, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website. Client organisations that sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site.
