Tape Application Systems Company of the Year
Tape application made easy since 1965. They decided to set up this separate company and provide products across the globe after developing their own tape application machines (as they weren’t fully satisfied with the varieties available on the market), which proved to be a great success with customers. Enimac, based near Milan, Italy, is best known for designing and producing both standard and custom tape application systems and for manufacturing both stand-alone systems and solutions that can be integrated into production processes. These increasingly popular products are shipped worldwide; Enimac has previously served clients in Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, the UK, France and South Korea. One of Enimac’s most innovative products is the tape application system, X-Treme Light. The automatic adhesive tape application system is equipped with micrometric adjustment for product thickness of up to 10 mm and can paste and cut tape up to 1mm thick at up to 35m/min. It features a manual feed and self-calibrating photocell for accurate reading of transparent, white, black, coloured and die-cut materials. The X-treme PRO Wide Format Tape Application System is another item which offers users a host of operational advantages. With a maximum product width of 1,600mm, it can efficiently accommodate the largest formats of offset printing and many formats of digital printing. With up to 6 independently programmable patented ‘paste and cut’ applicators, the system can accurately paste and cut tape up to 2mm thick including 3M VHB at speeds up to 50m/min to posters, floor stands, PVC, Forex and much more.
Solutions UK is extremely proud to present its highly regarded and industry acclaimed Company of the Year 2015 profile to Enimac. The recently formed company was established in 2013 by Biemme Adesivi, a major tape distributor and converter in northern Italy, who have been serving a variety of clients
“The past twelve months have been very satisfying for us,” commented Martin Buerger, International Business Development & Export Manager at Enimac, when asked about its current business performance. “We have had a steady increase of new clients, confirmation of our product quality, and additions to our product line as well as the recent announcement of our first international distributor, Newtown Tapes (www.newtowntapes.co.uk), whom we are pleased to have secured an association with and are sure will offer great service to the UK market. Our sales are also in line with forecast, so we have experienced fantastic success
in recent times, and we are extremely honored to have been selected for this award.” Martin emphasized that although the business has only recently been set up, its refined expertise in tape application sets it apart as a key brand in the industry. “As a small company we are still growing,” he explained. “We make a reliable product, are gradually extending our product line, offer clients the amount of automation they need, and have a diversified client base (with customers in different industries and in different countries).”

“As we are part of a tape converter, our tape application solutions were developed from real tape application situations. Our tape knowledge is something a machine-only manufacturing company doesn’t usually have, and I think this differentiation places us in good stead for the future.” When the Enimac team attended IPACK-IMA 2015 in May, their products were met with great interest from the many visitors who attended. It was at this particular trade show where they introduced their two new prototypes, the new tear tape applicator and the liner rewind system. They also showcased their X-treme 3D for two principle purposes: to highlight that they can do boxes and that they can integrate their applicator head technology into production lines, where the production line can command its applicator head. Excitingly, Enimac are currently working with an international partner to develop two new fully automatic taping systems, which are due to be presented at DRUPA next year. When discussing future plans, Martin was confident that Enimac is set to experience further growth and expansion. “Our short-term plans include gradually expanding our distributor network and completing the certification necessary to enter markets like the US, Canada and beyond,” he concluded. “After that we will be looking at entering these particular markets, and we are hoping to do all of this within the next 12 months.” For updates on the company, its products and its attendances at various events, check out the Enimac website and social media accounts using the contact details supplied below.
45 Years of Excellence
EG Newell: Grinding Machines and Lathe Specialist started off this year even stronger than before. Since the financial year started in April we have continued to perform in an exceptional manner – if we keep moving forwards at this pace then we are on form to treble the income of our business.”

We stand out from our competitors in the marketplace because of our specialisation - particularly in regards to grinding machines and internal grinders – for example, nobody else specialises on Heald Internal Grinders such as model 273A’s.” Its long-running prominence in the industry is due to continued hard work and commitment, as the business has overcome many economical obstacles. “Our persistence has enabled us to succeed in the industry over such a long period of time,” Ernie explained. “From 1969 – 1980 we had 36 employees and back then there were a series of recessions – we even started up the company during one! But we have weathered them all effectively, continuing to go forward despite experiencing such difficult financial times. “We bounced back because of the fact that we are good at what we do; people still wanted to use the services we provide because of our consistent professionalism and advanced expertise. At the moment we are doing exceedingly well, the last twelve months in particular has been fantastic for us and we have

We gain great coverage and custom through advertising and recommendations; so the plan is to carry on as usual going forwards, continuing to provide an incredibly good service for all of our customers.” T 01926 400 824/077144 12624 ernie.newell@hotmail.co.uk www.egnewell.co.uk

Wear-resistant coating
Applicos is on the stand of StanTronic Instruments (Stand 726), one of their UK representatives,
Castolin Eutectic has unveiled HD8, a wearresistant coating made with a high-deposition welding technique. The coating has been developed by the company’s engineers
who aimed to get a high density of tungsten carbides homogeneously distributed within a nickel-based matrix at high deposition rates. The critical parameters of the process, in particular
the temperature, are automatically controlled in order to avoid severe carbide dissolution as it may happen in standard welding techniques. HD8 is suitable for applications where standard chromium carbides wearplates are too heavy and not resistant enough, in particular where large production throughput is required. Customisable welding Castolin Eutectic has recently launched two new groups of welding equipment in Europe, incorporating the latest welding fashion and custommade, easy-to- use design for optimised welding results: the new CastoMIG and XuperArc welding equipment ranges. The Flagship is the new XuperArc series comprising three models at 320, 400 and 500 amps. Featuring an advanced touch screen control, Castolin builds on the innovative touch screen heritage from PTA machines. These multi-tasking machines, suitable for MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA welding, were exhaustively tested in both standard joining, repair and maintenance applications, being tough and advanced. The CastoMig 3500DS and CastoMig 5,000DS are completely digitised, microprocessor-controlled inverter power sources, suitable for both MIG/MAG and manual metal arc welding.
The modular design and potential for system addons ensure a high degree of flexibility. XuperArc and CastoMIG welding power sources can be adjusted to the precise client needs due to their design. The customised repair programs, complimentary welding accessories, EN 1090-support and the ease of use are only a few of the machines' strengths. Both groups of welding equipment can be employed in repair and maintenance, onsite mounting, machine

Creating Beautiful Landscapes Naturally
Maintaining Standards in Tree Care for 50 Years Inspiration, integrity, independence and impact: these are the four values that the Arboricultural Association (AA) truly believes in. As the largest membership organisation representing tree care in the UK, it has a concentrated focus on the responsible management of the trees they are involved with. Founded in 1964, the AA is a worldleading authority on arboricultural best practice, boasting over 2,000 members. Individuals who become a part of the scheme can progress through a set membership grade structure and can benefit from a wide range of associated privileges. Members can save money on training and trade supplies courtesy of the AA membership benefits scheme, as well as attending the ARB Show free

minded professionals to broaden their horizons through direct involvement; contributing to the development of worldwide arboriculture is a great chance for people to hone their enthusiasm and do something which will make a difference.
The AA considers amenity trees to be of great importance, and so work determinedly to ensure they are planted, pruned, managed and replaced to the highest possible standard. The body has several key objectives; to advance the study of arboriculture and continually improve upon its practice, to promote its principles through publications, exhibitions and research, and to teach students in disciplines where arboriculture is a major subject.

Tree reports to BS5837:2012; Identifying the Assets
When a tree report is required for a potential development site, this can send shivers down the spine of the developer, wary of problems ahead. This need not be the case. The tree report begins with a survey of the trees on the site and around. Called the Tree Constraints Plan, this is an audit of the trees and how they contribute to the setting. Often, there is nothing worth retaining within a site. However, the survey identifies trees of value. These can include those for focal points, screening and the ones simply enhancing the proposed development.
Trees are a material consideration, and those within Conservation Areas or subject to a Tree Preservation Order enjoy statutory protection.
rigours of construction activity. Storage of materials and compaction from humans and vehicles are not good for trees, neither are fires or cement.
Once we have the Tree Constraints Plan, we can identify which trees are worth retaining, and how retaining them would affect the development. A site with no trees can look harsh and unattractive, not fitting in with the surrounding area. Carefully retaining the trees which complement the site and designing the development with them in mind can result in high quality schemes which are desirable to live in. Once we have established which trees are being retained, we produce the Arboricultural Impact Assessment.

With care, preparation and foresight, we have a high quality development with trees of value retained. And if there are no trees worth keeping, the report makes this clear, to reassure the planners as they assess the application.

The Interchangeable Probe Handle ETI have introduced a new thermocouple temperature probe that allows the user to replace the stainless measuring tip, rather than replacing the whole probe, saving both time and money. Each handle incorporates a miniature thermocouple socket, allowing a variety of thermocouple probes to be quickly connected to a single thermometer. The benefits are both flexibility of use and reduced cost of purchasing a complete new temperature probe. Being most often in use, the stainless steel tip of the probe is exposed to excess heat, physical abuse or as is often the case, the probe simply wears out. It is therefore now possible to achieve a significant in cost, typically 50% by replacing only the working end (the tip) of the temperature probe.

+TRUSSED RAFTERS +QUALITY ROOF TRUSSES Roof trusses (or trussed rafters) are widely accepted as an economical method of providing a structural frame for a wide variety of roof profiles. Scotts Timber Engineering, based in the West Midlands, can offer their friendly and expert advice to create a trussed rafter roof for your application, whether domestic housing, commercial or industrial buildings. At the forefront of modern roofing technology, Scotts is fully committed to upholding the highest industry standards. +WHAT ARE ROOF TRUSSES? Roof trusses are individually designed pre-fabricated timber components made from strength-graded timber and joined together with punched metal plate connectors. Combining ecology, planning & development Armed with a team of dedicated, experienced staff, SES provides a complete service, offering advice and guidance to customers enabling them to choose the right process for them. All staff are members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management and hold protected species class licences from Natural England. SES specialise in providing client focused solutions to the ecological issues raised by much of today’s industry, development and local government activity. Dave Haslam, Principal Ecologist at SES commented: “We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and specialise in providing ecological survey and advice to both the public and private sectors. As Specialists in providing ecological survey and advice with regard to development, land management, quarry restoration and local authority projects, SES’s ecologists have considerable experience liaising with Local Planning Authorities and Natural England to ensure smooth passage of your scheme. SES has worked with a number of clients to resolve frequent problems involving ecological issues. They provide protected species surveys, mitigation and licencing for Bats, Barn owls, Water voles, Otters, Badgers, White-clawed crayfish, Great Crested Newts and Reptiles. Their solutions range from habitat manipulation (development sites) to provide suitable areas for species away from working areas, location and design for bat housing, timetabling of building demolitions and when protected species licenses and surveys will be required prior to any works commencing.
“All staff are fully licenced to deal with protected species and we have access through the Wildlife Trusts to skilled experts around the country that we can call upon to provide advice and guidance. Our cost effective, innovative solutions help you stay on the right side of the law. “SES Ltd. is a not for profit ethical company and a member of the Association of Wildlife Trust Consultancies. Our profits go back into the parent organisation to fund conservation projects and wildlife education in Staffordshire.” Re-development timetables can be thrown out of the window if ecological issues are not dealt with prior to formulating work schedules. Even when planning permission has been granted, protected species must be considered at all stages of work in order to keep companies within the law. Frequent issues include the presence of bats and nesting birds within buildings due for demolition or refurbishment.
Without the required lead in time for an ecologist to advise on these issues, which includes timing of works to cause minimum disturbance, the project costs can dramatically increase due to site closures or retention of derelict buildings until the protected species issues have been sorted out.
issues faced in the region and provide practical, costeffective solutions that benefit both biodiversity and the client. SES are ISO 14001 accredited with reports compliant to BS 42020:2013 Biodiversity-code of practice for planning and development. The company and staff are fully insured for all work.
Another frequent problem, especially within the West Midlands, is when development sites are cleared of vegetation to produce a flat clean site. Though the site managers feel they have removed the majority of ecological concerns with such actions, this type of habitat (bare ground) is attractive to a number of protected species including reptiles, invertebrates and migratory birds such as Little Ringed Plover and Black Redstart which are Schedule 1 birds in the Wildlife and Countryside Act and receive protection from disturbance once they have set up territories on a development site. The presence of these species on recently cleared sites causes delays in developments and may close the whole site from any activity for a minimum of 4 months.
SES staff are members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management and hold protected species class licences from Natural England. SES specialise in providing client focused solutions to the ecological issues raised by much of today’s industry, development and local government activity.
Post development monitoring is important not only for the conservation of biodiversity but as a marketing opportunity for companies to provide examples of their competencies when submitting planning applications and to demonstrate their commitment to environmental management. Having worked extensively throughout the West Midlands, SES has forged excellent links with local and regional planners, councils, government agencies and businesses. Able to draw on a wealth of local knowledge, SES are uniquely placed to provide an insight into the ecological
XII
David stated: “We have experience of a wide range of ecological projects including large and small-scale development schemes in the residential, commercial, recreational, industrial and renewable energy sectors. “We work closely with our clients to provide the professional advice they need and help them manage their projects from the preliminary pre-application stage through to any detailed protected species surveys, licensing and mitigation works required. SES also can offer advice on habitat creation and ecological management schemes, provide ‘toolbox talks’ and can supervise projects as an Ecological Clerk of Works. Our clients include highways departments, local councils, planning and development agencies, construction companies, architects, charities and private individuals.” For a competitive quote or additional information please call 01889 880 124, email enquiries@ses-gb.co.uk or visit www.ses-gb.co.uk

The Solida system from Francis Flower (Northern) Ltd is designed to offer the mass housing market a highly cost-effective, efficient and environmentally friendly floor solution that combines easily accessible, existing technologies in innovative ways. The first process in changing to the Solida system involves the introduction of underfloor heating technologies into ground and separating floors in combination with GYPSOL based flowing anhydrite floor screeds. For surprisingly little increase in build cost, the Solida system delivers significant improvement in desirability and asset value, increased levels of useable space, reductions in heating operating costs and improvements in energy efficiency. Currently the mass housing market in general uses solid concrete or suspended type ground floors with timber joisted separating floors. In general the heating systems used are radiator central heating systems. The Solida system seeks to change this, such that the heating systems are underfloor heating on all floors coupled with energy efficient heat sources such as condensing gas boiler systems or renewable heat technologies such as air or ground source heat pumps which may be more appropriate to higher code and carbon neutral developments. The first principal of the Solida system is therefore the introduction of energy efficient underfloor heating systems along with GYPSOL screeds. There are a number of potential positive side effects of this. When a change is made from radiators to underfloor heating the occupier gains more useable space in each room by virtue of the fact that they no longer need to avoid placing furniture against radiators. The generally accepted figure for this is 8% to 10% more useable space. This offers a number of practical and commercial opportunities to the house builder. Paul explained: “We have seen based on evaluations by, and discussions with, major house builders that the use of underfloor heating, given the above points
offers greater desirability to purchasers. In some markets this has enabled the builder to offer higher asset value to buyers. “The system offers added value due to increased useable floor space, improved desirability and “kerb appeal,” reduced energy use and subsequent cost savings to occupiers/owners, improved environmental profile and future proof design for higher code values.” The use of GYPSOL based screeds over the underfloor heating systems reduces the operating costs of the heating system. Tests using efficient and correctly designed underfloor heating systems have shown that using anhydrite screeds can improve the co-efficient of performance of an underfloor heating system by up to 25%. Additionally flow temperatures can be reduced by some 40 to 50 Celcius compared to the temperatures required for radiator systems or some 10 to 15 Celcius compared to underfloor heating systems in traditional sand cement screeds. This all adds to the desirability and helps justify a higher selling price. This also helps the builder to achieve higher code levels where required and to gain extra code credits in coded sustainable developments. The Future Of The Solar Industry Has Arrived! It is a common misconception that solar payments are made to feed the grid; in fact, the Government Feed In Tariff (FIT) is paid to generate electricity regardless of where it is used. The Export Tariff is also just an assumed amount of what is generated, meaning the financial return with a Hybrid system is threefold - feed in tariff, assumed export tariff as well as hardly any electric bills from March through to October!
incredibly worthwhile and cost-effective. Some of the specialist systems can even power your home during grid failure, giving you independence and peace of mind when you need it most.
Big brands such as Samsung and Bosch & Tesla have launched Hybrid Energy Storage Systems this year to make intelligent use of the Solar Energy (rather than just feeding the national grid). These hybrid systems take Solar Energy generated during the day and stores it in long lasting batteries until it is required for use avoiding the ‘use it or lose it’ concept of a standard installation.
The company utilise the very latest in battery technology - lithium batteries produced with longevity in mind – our standard batteries have a 12 year design life, but Assured Solar can install systems to last up to 40 years!
Prioritising self-use demand during the day and discharging through the evening and overnight ensures that households can achieve maximum self-sufficiency. The value is indisputable; most of Assured Solar’s customers utilise >90% of the energy they produce from the Solar Array, so it is

Swedish company Daimantprodukter has announced that the Mark II versions of its Diprofil polishing/filing machines are being released in autumn 2014. They will feature a new design and improved functionality in the tool-holder, which will be incorporated on both the Classic and the lowvibrating Dipro models. Diamantprodukter said that the new design improves ergonomics and flexibility for mould polishers and toolmakers. Safety also receives a boost, as there is no longer any need for operators to put their tool guiding hand or fingers on moving tools or machine parts, the risk of sustaining vibration-related injuries such as Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), will be significantly reduced, the company said. According to the supplier, low-vibrating tools have been identified as a leading factor in HAVS and reducing machine vibrations emitted by 50% directly decreases vibration-exposure by a full 50%, while halving exposure time in half reduces total vibration-exposure by only 30%.

Datech Scientific Limited Datech Scientific Limited (DSL) has for the past 25 years specialised in sample preparation equipment and laboratory automation solutions for XRF, XRD, OES, ICP and other industrial analyses. 2015 has seen an exciting new move for DSL by promoting the J200 LIBS Instrument from Applied Spectra Inc, in partnership with its European distributor, NUCOMAT BV. DSL would like to showcase here Applied Spectra’s major breakthrough in Li-ion battery material characterization with Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). Applied Spectra’s J200 LIBS Instrument enables Liion battery material characterisation possibilities that conventional techniques such as XRF, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS cannot deliver. These include: Main composition and impurity analysis for raw electrode and electrolyte materials without sample preparation Rapid and cost effective elemental depth profiling analysis for cathodes and anodes Binder distribution analysis,
including F measurements Conductive agent distribution analysis Lighter element analysis, which is difficult for XRF LIBS is a rapid chemical analysis technology that uses highpowered lasers to understand chemical composition. This analytical technique offers many compelling advantages compared to other traditional methods. These include no acid digestion, fast analysis time – usually a few seconds, and broad elemental coverage. Key elements that comprise Li-ion battery electrode, binders, conductive agents, electrolytes, and separators such as Li, B, C, N, O, F, P, Mn, Ni, Co, Fe, and Mg are easily analysed with this technique. With sample stage automation, and by applying successive laser pulses, LIBS can perform fast elemental mapping of a sample area to understand the distribution of additives and binders, as well as depth profiling analysis to understand the electrode chemistry change after different cycling loads. LIBS technology has advanced and evolved over the last
decade, and now highly cost-effective instruments are becoming available for various applications. For the Li-ion battery industry, the Applied Spectra J200 LIBS Instrument provides quick and economic quantitative and qualitative measurements for characterising repeatability and reproducibility of manufacturing steps to improve the device yield and quality. Electrode binder homogeneity, conductive agent distribution and deviation of electrode chemistry from the target value can be analysed and surveyed with this technology. The instrument can be also useful in typical FA analysis situations.

Hydra-Cell… Run-dry pumps to handle aggressive chemicals Pumps failing through running dry, or becoming damaged due to pumping corrosive liquids are not uncommon problems, however both these costly issues can be eliminated by using Hydra-Cell seal-less diaphragm pumps from Wanner. All pumps with dynamic seals could fall foul of the dry running problem. The liquids that these pumps move also act as the lubricant and cooling system for the pump. Friction of the mechanical seal faces running together without lubrication, or the shaft packing running against the shaft without cooling by liquid seepage causes overheating, seizure and catastrophic failure. Failure from running dry can also be attributed to an operator’s error, being too busy to notice that the feed tank is empty. These mistakes cost industry many millions of pounds each year. Hydra-Cell high pressure pumps are different. They operate with hydraulically balanced diaphragms and therefore have no dynamic seals to overheat and fail during
dry running. Wanner claims that Hydra-Cell pumps can run dry indefinitely without problem. Hydra-Cell’s seal-less design enables them to pump liquids that contain abrasive particles and other non-lubricating fluids that would cause damage to pumps with mechanical seals. Corrosive liquids can also be pumped easier with a Hydra-Cell pump, due to the availability of an extensive range of fluid end materials that can handle almost any liquid, and thus avoid potential pump damage. Hydra-Cell pumps have been available for some time with the fluid end machined from Kynar® PVDF, a high temperature engineering fluoropolymer famed for its high purity and outstanding resistance to a wide range of aggressive, corrosive chemicals… notably concentrated sulphuric and hydrochloric acids. Now, Wanner International is able to offer these pumps with stainless steel DIN flange fittings and Kynar mating surfaces, making Hydra-Cell pumps even easier to incorporate into corrosive fluid systems.
“Kynar pipe work is used extensively in the chemical processing, pulp & paper and semiconductor manufacturing industries,” said Paul Davis, Managing Director of Wanner International. “Offering a Kynar/ DIN flange combination will potentially increase the acceptance of Hydra-Cell pumps in these industries.” Kynar liquid heads are available for Hydra-Cell G03, G10, G20, G25 pumps covering a range of performance from 3.79 lpm to 76 lpm at pressures up to 24 bar (350 psi) and are also available on the Hydra-Cell metering pump range. Exceeding the performance requirements of API 675 in terms of repeatability, linearity and steady state accuracy, the HydraCell pump’s multi-diaphragm configuration generates virtually pulse-less flow, removing the need for dampeners in most applications.

AEC Designs offers an innovative solution to a fundamental problem that forklift truck drivers encounter; from the operator’s seat they don’t have sufficient view of the forks to be fully in control their position. ForkAngles is a new mast tilt indicator that discreetly mounts in the eye-line of the operator and gives a clear and precise indication of the mast tilt angle. The new device is designed to be simply retro-fitted to Counterbalance Forklift Trucks and allows operators to be able to accurately align the forks with the load, first time, and every-time.
Because Hydra-Cell pumps are true positive displacement pumps, flow rate is directly proportionate to input shaft speed and virtually independent of system discharge pressures. This allows precise flow control to be achieved using mechanical speed variators or variable frequency drives; both of which are available from Wanner International.
Research has shown that on average FLT drivers have only around a 6% probability of getting the tilt angle right first time, meaning 94% of the time drivers may need to make corrections which causes unnecessary wear, increases fuel consumption, and slows down pallet handling times. Any errors in aligning the forks could lead to damage to; the forks/ attachments, the pallet/products it is carrying and racking systems.

Antony Cook, inventor of ForkAngles has a great deal of
experience using forklift trucks having worked for a multinational engineering company in the past. Witnessing the difficulties colleagues were experiencing, he decided to design the simplest, most accurate and reliable solution to the problem. Research showed that Antony had actually solved a problem that has existed since fork-lift trucks were invented, and so the journey began to turn the idea into reality. Antony commented, “As a design engineer it is important to have a very inquisitive nature, and to ask why things are the way they are. From here we can start to consider how they could be made better, simpler, easier to use and more efficient. The problem of poor vision of the forks has been around for so long that it is accepted as being normal, with companies putting up with a certain amount of damages, often unfairly attributing them to driver error. In the modern competitive business environment this is no longer acceptable. ForkAngles is of benefit to both new and experienced drivers and we have received a great deal of tremendous feedback from end users.”
and built using top quality components sourced within the UK, ForkAngles dramatically increases the accuracy of forklift operation. It has been researched throughout extensive field trials and samples have been fitted to counterbalance trucks in different types of company and environments since May 2013. Antony is currently looking to expand the business into new markets and is seeking dealers and distributors in the forklift industry to promote and sell the product.
