“La mirada atraviesa la sabana, el viento surca llevĂĄndola a cuestas. Entre tantas injusticias teje redes, manos laboriosas, barro, hierro, madera. Ya vislumbran nuevos horizontes, escalones transportan esperanzas, aplausos que suben al cielo, voces angelicales que engendran un mundo nuevo. Es arte que vence barreras y pide justicia, llegarĂĄ atemporal y sublime bajo las estrellas"

ouadadugou
Uagadugu
It is the administrative capital of Burkina Faso, a cultural and economic center, known as Ouaga for the majority of the local population. Located in the northwest of Africa, with no exit to the sea, on a plateau. Tropical climate, with rainy seasons (4 months) and dry seasons (8 months). Warm and dry wind from the Sahara. Considered the main city of Burkina Faso, which has had a notable phenomenon of urbanization and concentration of activities due to: - rural migrations to the capital in search of more job opportunities. - Natural growth.
It’s one of the few capitals in the world that are not located on the coast or on the banks of a river. The need for water for the city is hardly covered. The majority (90%) of total energy consumption still today comes from traditional energy sources of ď€ rewood and charcoal, placing it in a category of a notable backwardness with respect to the globalization system.

descriptive report What is the intervention that would answer best to what the contest proposes: the value of a building with enough historical and sentimental richness for the inhabitants of Ouaga as for the inhabitants of Burkina Faso? This contest searches to reect upon the challenges of valuing a patrimony, keeping the architecture that recognizes and expresses its history safe, and at the same time, it gets sustainability. The proposal takes this statement in its urbanistic levels and of architectonic designs of interiors. It proposes a treatment of the set to the scale of a city, through generating a linear park, different green spaces and a new order of circulation. It proposes a recovery of the amphitheater basing it on delivering its main function, preserving its structure with an intervention on its physical limits, its accessibility and treatment of its cover. Out of this decisions, the intention to give life to a building without use is born, from different perspectives that you get by running through its interiors, and also, through the spaces that take into consideration different functions subordinate to it. Finally, achieving contemporary architecture con its local identity.

objectives The "Urban Shadow", as the name indicates, arises in response to a problem that severely affects the place: extreme temperatures and excessive heat. The idea of this prototype is to provide a large urban scale shadow through a system capable of generating it and also allowing the development of outdoor activities, being able to protect them from the sun. On the other hand, we have planned a way of intervention in the amphitheater, respecting its function, without modifying its essence. We created an East-West access ramp, in response to its lack of universal accessibility (replacing the existing stairs that save large lights without stairway rest), thus achieving the possibility of moving more easily and allowing a greater ow of people. We also have adjusted the physical limits that separate the amphitheater from the whole, in order to generate a more direct relationship with its context and to break with the "barriers" that surround it. This is achieved through the integration of the ramp with the environment, which is in permanent relationship through it’s visuals and vegetation, joining the plot of the urban shadow.
21
accessibility vehicular scale The circulation is given by main and secondary streets:
main road:
- The channel Avenue and the West Street: double-hand traďŹƒc routes and with more vehicular ow.
sideroad
: - Internal streets and a new east circulation, with a controlled hand, orderly access, both entrance and exit to the parking and the CDC.
pedestrian scale Internal pedestrian circulation North Access: Amphitheater Southern Access: educational sector. East-West accesses: Social sector
Outdoor pedestrian circulation Along the linear park, perimeter sidewalks of the complex, and pedestrian bridges over the chennel, connecting the CDC with its surroundings.

FUNCTIONAL ZONING

27

functional zoning The CDC is divided into 3 sectors according to their degree of privacy:
private - Area for ď€ le storage, administration, management and activities with less exposure. - Within the program this sector is called LABO.
public private - Area intended for the amphitheater. Free access, with a single restriction: remuneration for the service provided. (theater-music) - Within the program this sector is called WORK.
public - Social gathering space, located in the center of the CDC. Area for exchange, recreation, exhibition, commerce and learning activities. - Within the program this sector is called show.

Shaddow VENTILAtION water Burkina is an area with very hostile climatic conditions, so we must take considerations in accordance with this and provide shaded spaces for protection from excess sun, and the correct use of ventilation, for its natural conditioning. (openings, heights, covers, closings, etc) As a scarcity resource - its maximum use is necessary: proposing a cover that helps the reception of it and storage systems.

umbrella implementation MORPHOLOGICAL GENERATION We believe in a possible solution to the needs of the proyect and for this reason we have opted to create a square inverted umbrella structure, which will allow greater exibility for its composition, as it can be constructed in a grid system that can be easily adapted.
Starting from the basic shape of the triangle, so that it can generate a slope and then the sum of 4 of these parts make up a unit.
construction system Upper mesh
Solar panel
The shape of a regular polygon will also be the one that marks the plot of the composition in the plan. UV ltration Water Filtration
It’s main function will then be to create shade in the different spaces, incorporating a sustainable system for collecting water and sunlight using solar panels.

MODULES For the generation of the plot, it has been taken a section of an existing CDC building as the base measure (module). It consist of square of ten meters on each side, and then repeated on the entire terrain. This layout will conď€ gure the disposal of the roof and buildings, grouping these ones in lines of pairs or three modules.

instrumental development of the project We believe that the architecture is intrinsically linked to the local conditions of the place. For this reason, we mainly encourage the use of local materials: implementation of adobe bricks, with interventions by local builders sharing their knowledge about the different techniques: how to work bamboo, brick and thatched roof. Later, these traditional techniques can be combined with innovations. Vernacular constructions began to disappear with the advancement of contemporary techniques. So we would like to revalue them by combining contemporary and vernacular techniques, reinterpreting the history of Burkina Faso.
