JOHN NELSON NAMED DEPUTY STATE FIRE MARSHAL OF THE YEAR
OCEAN CITY, MD (June 20, 2011) – Deputy State Fire Marshal John Nelson of the Southern Regional Office of the State Fire Marshal has been named the recipient of the: 2010 “Deputy State Fire Marshal of the Year” award. State Fire Marshal William E. Barnard made the presentation during a ceremony at the Maryland State Firemen’s Association annual convention in Ocean City on June 20, 2011. Nelson was nominated by his supervisor, Deputy Chief Duane Svites. John was cited for his many achievements, such as; leading his region with 53 fire investigations, conducting a career high 112 fire safety inspections, maintaining a 41% criminal case closure rate, fulfilling agency needs as an Accelerant K-9 Handler for the past three years and he still dedicates time to his community as the Fire Chief at the Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department. “Deputy Nelson exemplifies the overall desire and commitment our investigators embrace to ensure the safety of Maryland’s citizens”, stated Fire Marshal Barnard.
