MAN SUCCOMBS TO INJURIES AFTER HOUSE FIRE ST. MARY’S COUNTY, MD (July 16, 2013) – A joint investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations is underway to determine the cause of a fire at 25307 Sotterly Road in Hollywood, MD. The 3:41 a.m. fire originated inside the 1st floor laundry room of the two-story dwelling near where the unconscious victim, David R. Allen (55) was located by first arriving firefighters. CPR was initiated at the scene and he was quickly transported to Medstar Washington Hospital Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. Approximately 40 firefighters from Hollywood, Bay District and Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Departments contained the blaze within 10 minutes after arrival on the scene. Smoke alarms were determined to have been operating at the time of the fire. Damage estimates for the structure and contents is $60,000. The cause for the fire remains under investigation at this time. The cause of death will be determined by the Washington D.C. Medical Examiners Office.
