Love is a beautiful thing. It makes people happy. It can change a person, and show someone things that they never knew about themselves. It lifts one up, knowing there is always someone who will stand by their side through anything. It brings people together, and makes the world a better place. Some people may disagree; they might think love is just a fantasy. Either way, it is a fantasy that everyone deserves to dream of and experience in all its glory, whether straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. It is a right minded idea to think that strict laws against possession and use of controlled substances would deter people from using drugs and make for safer communities. The average civilian would probably think cops are cleaning up the streets when they see someone in handcuffs for owning or using any type of illegal substance. But the only reason that person is considered a criminal is because of our laws, we don't know that they're dangerous. Why do they deserve to be arrested and charged? Morally, they could be someone who wouldn't hurt a fly, but since they have an illegal substance they are quickly judged and hauled away. There are pitfalls that come with these laws that aren't obvious to the general public, and there are benefits that could come with tossing out our current consequences. Legalizing possession and use of controlled substances could make for a reduction of our current drug epidemic, solve issues with overcrowded prisons, and help drug addicts to receive treatment. Current laws that criminalize possession and use of controlled substances have proven to be ineffective when it comes to eliminating the drug epidemic. Our laws do not prevent citizens from getting their hands on controlled substances; they only hand out consequences when a person is found in possession or while using said substance. An immense amount of time and money has been dumped into the U.S war on drugs and antidrug campaigns for decades in an attempt to significantly reduce the supply and demand of common controlled substances. However the attempts have backfired to an extent, Pierre–Arnaud Chouvy, a specialist in drug research internationally affirms that "prohibition has created the world's most lucrative illicit market for some psychoactive substances and encouraged their production" (Chouvy, 2012). One other example would be lying to a teacher, someone with a position of authority in a school. A student can lie about the reason they were late to class to the old "my dog ate my homework" excuse. This kind of lying is very difficult for the person telling the lie, because it involves telling someone who is in a position of authority what he or she wants to hear. The student lying doesn't tell the truth to avoid unnecessary conflict and it is studied that always telling the truth leads to more bad than good. Another example would be those who lie to a police officer or any person related to the law. You could tell him or her you didn't murder your algebra teacher just because you hate math but you actually did or you could be selling drugs and telling them you aren't. If you do it once whose to say you won't do it again? These things are very serious as well as having serious consequences. So just tell them the truth. In today's society, suicide can be a multifaceted issue, sometimes an act of heroism, selfishness, love, or a brave choice. I am arguing against suicide because it is not a solution to a problem, it should not even be included as an option. Suicide is simply defined as "the deliberate taking of one's own life, usually the result of a psychiatric disorder, although sometimes deliberated in the face of life–threatening physical illness, significant interpersonal stress, or when under the influence of one or more substances of abuse" (Piotrowski). Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it's not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sportsplay a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future.
One thing that is a positive outcome in sports is the overflowing happiness people get when they participate in competitive sports. One example is that "children who were involved in sports were more assertive, had greater confidence in their skills and physical appearance, and reported more positive feelings than those who didn't participate.
