At the ANZ Centre (junction of Colombo, High and Cashel streets) you’ll find the likes of international retail kingpins Superette, Macpac and Merchant 1948, and covetable bling at Partridge Jewellers. Across the road at the BNZ centre you’ll find jeans and casual fashion hub Death By Denim, iconic bookstore Scorpio Books, and a selection of fashion, beauty, tech and food businesses.
reputation for shopping malls. The city’s largest, Westfield Riccarton, is home to more fashion and accessory stores than you can shake a lipstick at, as well as major national and international retail chains and a supermarket.
For more upscale shopping, head to Merivale Mall, the beating heart of the Merivale fashion district. It’s home to an abundance of men’s 03 — Stencil

Seek out edgy urban streetwear here at Stencil, a purveyor of hip apparel and footwear, with both design classics and the latest in contemporary looks on the racks.
In Woolston, look up the stunning slice of Victoriana that is The Tannery. One of the city’s premier (and most charming) retail destinations, it’s an elegant restoration of a 19th Century tannery that houses a mix of hip fashion stores, speciality boutiques, artisan foods, a craft brewery, and a premium cinema, and all without a chain store in sight. Here you’ll find red-hot denim at EnCompass, where the fitting prowess of owner/ operator Benji is legendary. Food for Thought is a hub for zero-waste shopping with ethically-sourced
products and big supermarket brand alternatives. Other Tannery faves include Katerina Boutique’s high-end designs, Morgan & Page’s covetable womenswear lines, the emporium of sensory delight that is Cosi Fan Tutte, and super chic clothing and accessories boutique The Flock. Peruse the extensive range of high-quality, designer drapery and upholstery fabrics at Fabric House.
In the central city, you’ll find long-established (founded in 1854) city department store and retail icon Ballantynes – think the local version of Harrods. Starting life as the front room of a Cashel Street residence, the business was purchased by John Ballantyne in 1872, and the family name has stuck around ever since. If you can’t get it at Ballantynes, chances are it’s not worth getting. If you’re after high-quality attire for the lads, Cutler & Co fuses high fashion attitude with ease of wear, resulting in effortless urban sophistication. Discover Cutler’s full, extensive range in the Colombo Street store.
Another city icon is the historic Arts Centre in Worcester Boulevard, home to gallery stores, artisan foods and jewellers – be sure to check out Indigo & Provisions, stocking an extensive range of slick threads plus more besides!
The Crossing is a swishy fashion hub, with its laneways and bridges offering access to international and New Zealand boutiques including H&M, Andrea Biani, IVYBLU, Rodd & Gunn, Trenery, Witchery, Ruby, and more. The mall also has its own fancy inner-city supermarket, FreshChoice City Market. Staying in the central city, there’s streetwear, footwear, and accessories at Infinite Definite’s funky store in High Street. Also in High Street (next to World) is Plume, a multi-brand boutique and home for NOM*d, a heavy-hitting Kiwi label on the global scene.
Christchurch’s own Untouched World brand has become world famous – check out the sustainable, stylish garments for men and women at the flagship store in Burnside.
For a bespoke jewellery experience and a range of unique pieces sourced from around the world, visit Roccabella, a preearthquake Christchurch icon newly returned to Cashel Street.
