Hotel Convention Center

Aerocity, New Delhi

Sem 10 : Architecture Thesis (2020)

India is ranked 7th in the Asia Pacific regions for the number of conventions hosted of which Delhi is a leading MICE destination. There are many independent convention facilities but lack of an integrated facility of a Hotel Convention Center which is crucial to make India a leading MICE destination.

The site is located in Aerocity, New Delhi, a premium location close to India’s largest & busiest airport, Indira Gandhi International Airport. It has a rich context & connectivity ushering in a new era of business districts in India.

‘Azure Expanses’ attempts on enhancing the richness of the Hospitality district of Aerocity with a Hotel Convention Center on the first plot of the district & at the same time creating an active public realm promoting pedestrianization within the plots.

BREATHING MIRAGE

Hyperloop Desert Campus, Nevada

Finalist entry in Competition by YAC (Young Architects Competition) - 2020

Done in group of 3

Project Role - Concept Development, Facade modulation, Interior Detailing

From Illusion to Reality : In the quest for speed and travel, humans have come a long way since the invention of The Wheel. “Breathing Mirage” is a portal, that brings the superior mirage that Hyper-loop represents into the realms of human existence. Living in a symbiotic relationship with the extreme weather conditions of the desert, the project sustains and thrives to overcome the challenges of the climate, much like the researchers who keep thriving in order to grow. The facade is a breathing system which is in constant motion in correspondence to the sun and its movements, providing optimum light and heat for the interior spaces. Much like the changing dunes of the desert, each day is different inside because of the play of light and shadows.

HANGING GARDENS

Housing Complex

Surat, Gujarat

Project done with Studio C+C as a Jr. Architect in 202

Project Role - Zoning, Site Planning, Massing studies, Unit layout planning, Concept Development, Parking Layout

‘Hanging Gardens’ is a Luxury Residential Complex comprising of 4BHK & 5BHK units (simplex & duplex) along with well articulated open spaces as well as clubhouse amenities. The site sits along the bank of the famous Tapi River and is very well connected to the Airport with a strong road network.

MASSING & SITING OPTIONS

MASSING EVOLUTION

Three independent towers arranged parallel with green courts between them.

Apartments rotated away from the core, to allow for better views to the river and open up the green areas further, thereby curtailing any over viewing

Apartments separated from cores to allow for natural ventilation with gardens added in between for a luxurious entry experience.

URBAN DESIGN

Redevelopment of Janakpuri Community Center

Janakpuri, New Delhi

Sem 9, Done in groups of 4 in 2019

Project Role - Zoning, Site Landscaping, Commercial Block- Design developement, Parking Layout

The project calls for the redevelopment of the Janakpuri Community Center. Having a massive residential component to the program, creating spaces for both the residents of the site as well as the context was an integral focus of the project. The zoning was based on the accessibility, publicness and privacy of the site.

The taller commercial hub creates a landmark in space. The angular axis, clean cuts and fluid landscape render both the aesthetic and functional appeal to the scheme. Amalgamating the central mandatory green with the smaller green pockets gives rise to a smooth transition between the public and private greens which are inclusive to all. The type and quality of open spaces creates a public realm for all the people in the close vicinity of the site. The built form is gently sandwiched between the earth and the sky following a common language with the presence of ‘voids’ creating a visual porosity and an elevated gathering space.

DESIGN DIRECTIVES

BREAKING THE LINEARITY

A linear mass would give a long stretch of open space as opposed to the smaller pockets of greens obtained by using a oblique axis

URBAN POROSITY

Porosity is maintained in terms of spaces as well as form inviting people into the site & the central green. Every block enjoys a view into an open space.

SITE DEVELOPMENT

CLUBHOUSE COURTS

Clubhouse along the edge of the site to cater to the surrounding areas as well

FRIDAY MARKET

Friday Market relocated with a public gathering space to increase footfall everyday

MANDATORY GREEN

Greens divided such that there are public greens in the center and private greens along the residences

TEMPLE NODE

Temple node retained as it is an important symbol to the existing residents

PUBLIC PLAZA

Plaza connecting main road to Central Green creating a major axis

RETAIL ALONG HOUSING

Retail placed under housing creates a public realm right after the plaza thus activating the space

ELEVATED PLAZA

Elevated ramps leads one to the retail block

ELEVATED GATHERING SPACE

An elevated gathering space is created at a common level on groups of housing towers breaking the mass into proportionate ratios.

EQUITY

Rethinking the urban space which focuses on people first ensuring equal distribution of resources.

05

PEDESTRIAN MOVEMENT

Using Context axis to generate pathways to invite more pedestrians.

VEHICULAR MOVEMENT

Vehicular movement restricted to the periphery of the site

OPEN GREENS

Redefining the central green to create smaller pockets of private greens

ZONING

Housing situated away from the commercial zone to allow for privacy

GROUND

Strong oblique axis is created to allow for smaller pockets of open spaces for residences

SYNERGIA

Office building for Millennials

Gurgaon , Haryana Sem 6 (2018)

‘Synergia’ is an office building situated adjacent to the busy DelhiGurgaon and Delhi-Jaipur expressways. The precinct is a hub of a variety of offices. Unfortunately being affected by vehicular traffic, it is not pedestrian friendly and lacks public spaces for employees to gather. Apart from street hawkers, there are no food courts or restaurants in the close vicinity.

Sandwiched between two existing office buildings, Synergia creates a food street with restaurants on both the sides making it a public node for the employees as well as the general public.

The tower sits on the public podium which constantly evolves due to the use of Light Transmitting Concrete panels. Interesting shadows are created on the facade of the podium as people walk through the space inside making the building come to life.

A sunken spill-out is created out of the existing cluster of trees present on the site creating a shaded ‘haat’ for informal discussions. Ample amount of daylight cuts through the skylight in the public floors of the building.

Being a space for Millennials, the office floor plate provides for different kind of work spaces - formal workstations, individual pods, relax stations, etc in an open floor plan. Flexibility is provided in all the spaces.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Existing pit incorporated in landcscape retaining existing trees to create a ‘spill out’ space or an informal ‘haat’ and a congregation space for the surrounding buildings.

Existing pit on site with trees at -1.5m
