sada, località 100 km a sud di Gerusalemme, dove, dalla fortezza di Erode, si possono ancora osservare i segni lasciati dagli accampamenti dell’esercito romano. Passeggiare per le strade di Gerusalemme vuol dire ritracciare una storia millenaria e una storia di popoli che è ancora viva, nel ricordo, nelle usanze, nei monumenti di questa città mistica. I simboli ebraici si mescolano alle effigi turche, alla iconografia cristiana e alla tradizione araba, nello spettacolo di un luogo unico al mondo dove la convivenza non si risolve solo nei simboli, ma anche nella vita quotidiana: agli ebrei ortodossi si affiancano musulmani e cristiani, in un vitale riflesso dei quartieri di Gerusalemme. Dalle rovine della cittadella, nella parte più a ovest della città vecchia, si ammirano centri e chiese cristiani, la splendida moschea nota come Cupola della Roccia, secondo alcuni l’edificio islamico più antico al mondo, e sinagoghe: tutto a pochi metri l’uno dall’altro. Fra le stradine che si diramano fra i vari quartieri si raggiungono due delle principali attrazioni della città: il Muro del Pianto e la Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro. Il primo, considerato il luogo più sacro dalla religione ebraica, è un’imponente costruzione in pietra ed è ciò che è rimasto dall’ampliamento del Secondo Tempio voluto da

Percorrendo la strada da Tel Aviv a Gerusalemme si possono ammirare i paesaggi legati ai luoghi sacri descritti nella Bibbia: creste collinari in cui si alternano il verde scuro della vegetazione mediterranea al bianco della pietra. La pietra che ritroveremo in tutte le costruzioni di Gerusalemme. È un luogo che ci tiene sospesi tra il presente, vivo, esuberante ed estremamente moderno di Tel Aviv, ed il passato immutato testimone delle storie che si sono susseguite in questa terra.
