The Coyotes have won five of their last six games, including a weekend sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills (70-38) and Cal State L.A. (62-53) on their home floor. Within the confines of Coussoulis Arena, Cal State San Bernardino is 5-1 this season and will play five of its last seven games at home. Currently, the Coyotes are third in the CCAA standings behind Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Monterey Bay. CSUSB is led by the conference’s fourth-leading scorer in Eisha Sheppard, who averages 15.1 points per game and second in the CCAA in field goal percentage (.511). Sabrina Gonzalez is also averaging in double-figures at 11.2 a game. Cal State San Bernardino defeated Sonoma State, 52-45, on Jan. 8 in Rohnert Park, but SSU is 15-13 against the Coyotes all-time and 15-11 in the Mark Rigby era.

Led by the three-time CCAA Player of the Week and the conference’s leading scorer Reyana Colson, the Broncos are riding an 11-game winning streak and haven’t lost in 2011. Cal Poly Pomona’s last loss came on Dec. 30 against Cal State Monterey Bay, the team’s only conference loss. The only other defeat came against NCAA Division I Nevada to open the season. CPP leads the conference in scoring margin at +15.1, scoring 70.5 and allowing 55.4 points per contest. Colson is the only CCAA player averaging more than 20 points per game (20.2). She also leads the conference in steals (2.8/game) and is third in assists (4.3/ game). Megan Ford and La’kenya Ford also average in double-figures, with 11.6 and 10.9 points a game, respectively. Cal Poly Pomona defeated Sonoma State, 70-50, on Jan. 6 in Rohnert Park, its fourth straight win over the Seawolves. CPP is 22-9 all-time against SSU.
The Sonoma State women’s basketball team will turn its sights to the road with just six games remaining in the regular season. Kicking off the four-game road swing, the Seawolves will make a stop in San Bernardino on Friday to face Cal State San Bernardino before taking on Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday in Pomona. Both games are set to tip at 5:30 p.m.

...the Seawolves sit in eighth place in the CCAA standings with a 4-12 record. The top eight teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will qualify for the CCAA Championship Tournament. The Seawolves are looking to make their first appearance since 2008.
Seawolves Suffer Fourth Straight Loss
Despite a spirited effort, the Sonoma State women’s basketball team fell short in their comeback attempt against Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, dropping a 59-53 decision to the Warriors after losing a 64-44 decision to visiting Chico State on Thursday. It was Sonoma State’s fourth straight loss and its sixth in the last seven games. The loss dropped the Seawolves to a 1-10 record on their home floor this season.
