20-2, 16-2 ccaa

Otter Sports Center at Seaside, Calif.

Since winning their first 16 games to start the season, the Otters have won four of their last six games, including two straight this past weekend at Cal State Dominguez Hills (69-55) and at Cal State L.A. (66-56). The only two losses this season came against Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego. With a 20-2 record, Cal State Monterey Bay is getting respect in the national poll as the No. 24 team in the nation this week after just receiving votes last week. Despite being one of the best teams in the nation, not one player on the team is averaging in double-figures -- it’s the defense that is getting the job done. Cal State Monterey Bay has the No. 1 scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 50.0 points per game. The Otters defeated the Seawolves (63-55) in Rohnert Park on Jan. 15, their third straight win against SSU. Sonoma State leads the all-time series, 10-4.

at San Francisco State GATORS Saturday, February 19 • 5:30 p.m.

4-18, 4-14 ccaa

Main Gymnasium at San Francisco, Calif.

After suffering a 15-game losing streak, the Gators have since won three straight with victories over Cal State East Bay, Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills, all on the road. San Francisco State’s only win prior to the 15-game skid came against CSUEB back on Dec. 3 at The Swamp. With a 4-14 record in conference play, the Gators are one game out of the eighth spot in the conference race, hungry to clinch a spot in the CCAA tournament for the fourth straight season. Senior Dominique Hunter leads the team in scoring (12.5 ppg) and is the CCAA’s top rebounder with 11.1 a game. SF State is being held to just 47.8 points per game while giving up 56.0 a contest. Sonoma State defeated San Francisco State, 46-37, in Rohnert Park back on Jan. 13. SSU leads the all-time series against SFSU, 34-26.

The Sonoma State women’s basketball team look to its final road trip of the season this weekend when the Seawolves travel to Seaside on Saturday to face No. 24 Cal State Monterey Bay before heading north to take on San Francisco State in San Francisco on Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. both nights. SSU will then return home next weekend to wrap up the regular season with home games against Cal State L.A. (Wednesday) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (Friday).
