Weekly Release
vs. Cal State L.A. GOLDEN EAGLES Wednesday, February 23 • 5:30 p.m.
7-17, 4-16 ccaa
The Wolves’ Den at Rohnert Park, Calif.
A win last Friday against Cal State East Bay snapped a 10-game losing streak for Cal State L.A., but UC San Diego defeated the Golden Eagles on Saturday, as they have now lost 11 of their last 12 games. CSULA is in a three way tie for 10th place in the CCAA standings, just one game behind Sonoma State and San Francisco State. A loss to the Seawolves on Wednesday would eliminate the Golden Eagles from CCAA championship contention. Lacy Ramon is the CCAA’s fifth-leading scorer, averaging 14.6 points per game while Gretchen Tiernan is scoring 10.2 points a contest. In the last meeting between Sonoma State and Cal State L.A., the Seawolves earned a 75-68 victory in Los Angeles on Jan. 22, the third straight win against the Golden Eagles. SSU holds a 19-14 lead in the all-time series (17-9 under Mark Rigby).
vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills TOROS Friday, February 25 • 5:30 p.m.
4-20, 4-16 ccaa
The Wolves’ Den at Rohnert Park, Calif.
Tied in 10th place with Cal State L.A. in the CCAA standings, Cal State Dominguez Hills is also on the outside, looking in. The Toros need two victories this weekend and a little bit of help elsewhere in order to clinch the eighth and final spot in the CCAA tournament. A loss to Sonoma State on Friday would be detrimental to their playoff chances. A buzzer-beating 56-55 win against Cal State East Bay on Saturday snapped an eight-game losing streak for Cal State Dominguez Hills, heading into the final weekend of the regular season. No Toro player averages in double-figures, as Nikki Boutte leads the team with 9.7 points per game. CSUDH defeated SSU, 55-52, back on Jan. 21 in Carson and the Toros lead the all-time series, 23-16. However, in the Mark Rigby era, Sonoma State is 15-10 against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
It Comes Down to the Final Weekend of the Regular Season...
With just two games remaining on the 2010-11 regular season schedule, the Sonoma State women’s basketball team sits tied with San Francisco State for eighth place in the CCAA standings. The top eight teams in the final regular season standings will qualify for the CCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament next week. The Seawolves will host Cal State L.A. on Wednesday and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, both just one game back of SSU in the standings. The games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at The Wolves’ Den.

The Sonoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in an effort spearheaded by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and supported by the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), will be collecting canned foods at this week’s basketball games. Members of SAAC will be on hand at the basketball games on Wednesday and Friday to accept goods on behalf of NOAH, a local food pantry that benefits the communities of Rohnert Park, Cotati, and Penngrove. Fans that bring cans to The Wolves’ Den on Wednesday or Friday will receive two dollars off admission to that night’s game for each donation.
Thank You, Oly!
As the regular season wraps up this week at The Wolves’ Den, it will be the final home games for Sonoma State senior Oly Larkin. She will be honored in a special ceremony prior to the tipoff between SSU and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
