Sebastopol loves company elcome to Sebastopol and our annual Apple Blossom Festival. The festival is one of Sonoma County's oldest and best attended twoday events. We have held our festival since 1946 which means each year we celebrate many hometown traditions and we also have seen many changes through the years. Our popular Apple Blossom parade starts down Main St. at 10 a.m. Lisa Garcia (left) and Linda Collins on Saturday (April 13.). Parade entries celebrate the rich agricultural heritage and spirit of our popular community, with local school bands, colorful floats, antique cars, equine and dog entries and more. Our theme this year is “It Takes a Village to Blossom.” Once again this year our Pacific Market and Sebastopol Hardware are sponsoring our large wine and craft beer tasting tent in the center of the festival at Ives Park. For just $20, wine tent entrants can taste wine and beer all day. Also at the Ives Park festival grounds there will be live music, children’s play area, many crafts and food booths. On Sunday will be our popular and acclaimed Blues Festival hosted by Bill Bowker of KRSH FM and featuring headliner Joe Louis Walker. Hope to see you all there.

Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County — It’s all about community Whether recovering from disaster or reaching our artistic goals, it really does take a village to blossom. The community that is the Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County (AWS) is celebrating its 51st annual Apple Blossom Art Show. AWS is proud to partner with the Sebastopol Center for the Arts and is grateful for their sponsorship. The show will feature more than 100 original paintings, drawings and fine art photography. With artworks ranging from rural landscapes to experimental abstracts, there is something for every visitor and family to enjoy. Nearly all the art is for sale, and a section of the show features small artworks at very affordable prices. Visitors will have a chance to win a painting by purchasing a raffle ticket. This year’s show judge is contemporary representational painter Pam Powell. She paints

her world using the traditional skills she has honed and is on the faculty of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. For more info: pampowell.com. The judge will give awards in the categories of oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, mixed media and photography as well as Best of Show and a second place Founders Award. Kathy Byrne won Best of Show last year with her painting, Antique Calligraphy Brushes. The
Founders Award was won by Bob Hart with his photograph, False Kiva. The public will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite artwork with the piece receiving the most popular votes earning an award for the artist. Visitors’ comments and votes are greatly appreciated by the artists. The non-profit Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County was founded in 1965 and meets monthly in Sebastopol. There are
guest artist demonstrations, figure drawing sessions, critiques by well-known artists, paint-outs and networking opportunities. Meetings are open to the public for a $5 donation. Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month from noon to 3 p.m. at the Sebastopol Veterans Memorial Building. The artists of AWS range from beginners to professionals and they work in a full spectrum of artistic media. The mix of old and new members contributes to the organization’s longevity and freshness, along with the support, fellowship and activities it provides both novice and seasoned artists. The group is currently accepting new members and membership information will be available at the show. Come enjoy the artwork, the camaraderie and vote for your favorite piece of art. For more information about AWS, visit www.awsomeart.org.

Sebastopol’s Apple Blossom Festival has been voted as many people’s “favorite” Sonoma County gathering for many years. One of the main reasons always has been it’s full weekend of great live musical performances. And, in recent years the lineup has been upgraded to include KRSH’s Bill Bowker’s Sunday blues lineup, this year
headlined by Joe Louis Walker, also featuring Nancy Wright and Sonoma County’s own John Courage. More homegrown talent will perform over the weekend, including Sebastopol’s Radar Band and west county’s Burnside. Parade winners are announced on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. All entertainment is free with the price of festival admission.

It also takes a Chamber of Commerce to make blossoms Members, volunteers host many special events throughout the calendar year he highlight of each year for the Sebastopol Area Chamber of Commerce is definitely April’s Apple Blossom Festival. That’s when the most businessmembers and volunteers come together to welcome everyone to Sebastopol for a great weekend of parades, music, festival food and don’t forget the blossoms. This is the 73rd annual festival, dating all the way back to 1946 and the chamber itself, was founded in 1921. The chamber is a membership-driven non-profit organization and is led by an elected and otherwise volunteer board of directors. Throughout the year — and not just during the Apple Blossom Festival — the chamber staff and volunteers welcome visitors at its Visitor Center. It also serves the town and broader area of Sebastopol. The Chamber’s mission believes the success of the businesses benefits the community at large. Each year the Chamber and Visitor Center continues to explore programs and services that are relevant to the businesses and visitors that utilize it. The programs are member-driven, based on the needs and desires of the businesses, which have chosen to participate. The Chamber provides opportunities for networking, professional development, community exposure, marketing and advertising and educational forums.
