President’s Message “Under the Big Top” Welcome to the 2022 Citrus Fair! We are happy to present this year’s theme “Under the Big Top” celebrating the legacy of fun that the circus, like our fair, brings to the community. We have had an unprecedented past two years trying to navigate through this pandemic together. What this year’s theme means to me, is that it offers an escape: A place where you can go with your loved ones to enjoy live music, entertainment, exhibits, and food. Under the Big Top also represents, for me, a celebration of community. There is so much to see and do at the Citrus Fair. There is something for everyone from the children’s area to the cabaret and talent show, 4-H

exhibits, artwork and even citrus themed contests and exhibits. Meet your friends at the Fair and grab a microbrew, a glass of award-winning wine or have a bite from one of our many vendors. For the thrill seekers, try one of the many rides. Make lasting memories with your friends and family at the Citrus Fair! There is a lot of work behind the scenes to bring you the fair. Many thanks to all the Volunteers, Staff, Board, Exhibitors, Vendors and Visitors. As the old saying goes, “it takes a village.” This fair couldn’t happen without you!

Dylan Davis, 2021-22 Citrus Fair President

Message from the CEO This year marks the 130th anniversary of the Cloverdale Citrus Fair. YOUR FAIR is one of the oldest in California! Thank you for joining us for four days of family fun. Our talented team has planned a beautiful event full of carnival thrills, live music, spectacular citrus displays and a showcase of exhibits grown, made, and created by our talented and skilled friends and neighbors. I invite you the Livestock Barns to cheer on local 4-H and FFA exhibitors. Don’t miss the mouthwatering food, wine tasting and culinary arts on display. Try your hand at the orange juicing contest or enter your favorite orange or lemon dessert. Did you see our anniversary Citrus Fair Cookbook? Happpy 130th, Citrus Fair!

Photo SoCoNews Archives

The main pavilion of the Cloverdale Citrus Fair is pictured in this historical photo. Photo is undated.

It’s a big year for the Citrus Fair — its 130th birthday. The Cloverdale Citrus Fair began as a typical country fair in 1892 and still remains the earliest fair held in California each year. The fair was established as a way to celebrate the abundant citrus crop that was once part of the northern Sonoma County landscape. This event has blossomed into a major community effort,

resulting in one of the most memorable and entertaining events in California. In the beginning, the exhibits and displays included little more than wooden frameworks with a few oranges affixed to the structures. Today, visitors are greeted by elaborate, threedimensional exhibits, some as high as eighteen feet produces by exceptionally talented individuals and groups.
