Fountain Park
This 64-acre park is the anchor for the downtown. The park features a 29-acre effluent lake with a world-famous fountain that goes off every hour for 15 minutes from 9am-9pm. It does not operate in windy conditions. Golden Eagle Park
This 25-acre active recreation area hosts numerous activities and leagues throughout the year. Little League, adult softball, senior softball, high school athletics, and drop-in sports such as basketball, volleyball, and tennis. Desert Vista Park
This park offers 3 multi-purpose fields, a playground, a skate park, and a dog park. The Off-Leash Recreational Facility or Dog Park is a 3-acre fenced facility where dogs can run free. It is divided into two fenced areas for different sized dogs. The skate park offers skateboarders, roller bladers, and bikers alike a place to get some exercise and practice their skills.

McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Nestled in the lower Verde River basin, this 21,099-acre park is a desert jewel. Elevations in the park rise to 3,000 feet. Visitors enjoy a full program schedule, over 50 miles of multiuse trails, and a year-round campground.

Usery Mountain Regional Park
The park is 3,648 acres set at the western end of the Goldfield Mountains, adjacent to the Tonto National Forest. The most popular feature of the park is the Wind Cave Trail where water seeps from the roof of the alcove. The park offers over 29 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The Archery Range is the only Five Star-rated archery range in Arizona and hosts over 30 tournaments annually. There is a campground and stargazing events, too.

Located at Fountain Park, the splash pad is a great place for youngsters to cool down and have some water fun.

Saguaro Lake
Saguaro Lake is rimmed with beautiful desert canyon walls that are studded with saguaro cacti. Boat rentals are available at the marina where you will also find a lakeside restaurant. Take a tour on the Desert Belle and shop in their floating gift shop. Saguaro Lake is a great location for fishing. The Butcher Jones Recreation Site offers shaded picnic areas, a swimming area, and a 5.4-mile out and back hiking trail.

Salt River

Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch

Tempe Town Lake
At the heart of Tempe Town Lake is the historic Tempe Beach Park. There’s plenty of space for a rock music festival or a romantic walk. Rent bikes for the bike path or rent a kayak, paddleboard, or motorized boat to get out on the water.

Fountain Hills Community Garden
The Community Garden is a gathering place where residents can learn to garden, connect with nature, stay physically active, and build social interactions. It features 117 leased beds, 6 ADA beds, 5 Food Bank donation beds, greenhouse, beehive enclosure with 4 hives, shaded pavilion, and a farmto-table demonstration area.

Low-Water Demonstration Garden
Located at Fountain Park, this garden features a variety of native and desert-adapted species that can flourish in landscapes with little to no water requirements. Residents can get an idea of what these plants look like when mature and get ideas for their own landscaping projects.

Desert Sonoran Botanical Garden
The Desert Sonoran Botanical Garden Trail in Fountain Hills was founded by Jane Haynes in 1975 as a wildlife preserve and garden. The garden is 8 acres with elevation from 1,696 to 1,800 feet. Dozens of desert plants can be seen along the half-mile trail.

Desert Botanical Garden
Amid the red buttes of Papago Park is one of the world’s finest collections of desert plants. It showcases 50 acres of beautiful outdoor exhibits. Don’t miss the musical evenings of the holiday Las Noches de las Luminarias.

Boyce Thompson Arboretum
Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical garden and cooperatively managed by UofA and Arizona State Parks, the BTA was founded in 1924. This venerable 330-acre oasis has nearly three miles of paths and trails winding through colorful gardens, woodlands, and riparian habitats.

Fountain Park
A 1.9-mile lighted walking path meanders around Fountain Park for beautiful views of the lake, fountain, and birds.

FIT Trail System
There are currently three FIT Trails in Fountain Hills. These trails offer safe sidewalk or off-road walking. The SunRidge Trail is a 3.8-mile loop, the Falcon Trail is 1.7 miles, and the Civic Center Trail is 3.2 miles. The Fountain Park walking path and the Lake Overlook Trail will be brought into this system for another 3.8 miles of walking. Five more trails are planned and will add another 16.3 miles, bringing the total to 28.8 miles.

Scottsdale Green Belt Path
Also known as the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt, this path is an oasis of parks, lakes, paths, and golf courses traversing 11 miles through the heart of Scottsdale. Users are able to avoid major cross-traffic with 24 grade-separate crossings.

Saguaro Lake
This lake has the perfect combination of great bass fishing and beautiful scenery. Known for its impressive population of largemouth bass, which grow larger every year. Roosevelt Lake
The largest lake in Central Arizona, Roosevelt Lake is a bass fisherman’s paradise. At nearly 20,000 acres with submerged brush and timber, this is the place for a serious bass fisherman. Lower Salt River

Tempe Town Lake

Lake Overlook Trail
This trail is Fountain Hills’ best kept secret. Park in the parking lot on the east side of Fountain Park, walk across the street to hit the trail. The distance from this trailhead on Panorama Drive to the other entrance at Saguaro Blvd. and Panorama is 1.17 miles.

Desert Sonoran Botanical Garden Trail
This wildlife preserve and garden was founded in 1975 to acquaint guests with the plants of the Sonoran Desert. The out-and-back trail is 1.2 miles round-trip with a turnaround at a dam built during the area’s ranching days.

Dixie Mine Trail
This out-and-back trail totals 11.1 miles. It begins at the Golden Eagle Trailhead with a stroll through the Eagle’s Nest neighborhood to the trail entrance at the boundary of McDowell Mountain Regional Park. The trail ends at the old Dixie Mine where you can see two secured entrances to the mine and Hohokam petroglyphs.

Andrews-Kinsey to Sunrise
This 2.4-mile connector trail brings together the Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve and the Fountain Hills Preserve. It connects the Sunrise Trail with the Western Loop Trail at the Adero Canyon Trailhead.

Sonoran Trail
This 3.3-mile trail connects the Dixie Mine Trail to the Western Loop-Promenade Trail at the Adero Canyon Trailhead. This brings two great spaces together: McDowell Mountain Regional Park and the Fountain Hills Preserve.

Ridgeline Trail
Our newest trail, the Ridgeline, is 2.6 miles round-trip. It begins at the Adero Canyon Trailhead and goes out to a beautiful scenic overlook above ADERO Scottsdale to the south and SunRidge Canyon to the north. This is the place to go for spectacular views of Fountain Hills and beyond.

Sunrise Trail
This climb will give you a cardio workout with its steady climb and switchbacks. The trail is 4.9 miles from the trailhead at the eastern end of Via Linda to its terminus at the Lost Dog Wash Trailhead near 124th Street and Cactus in Scottsdale.

Lost Dog Wash Trail
The Lost Dog Wash Trailhead is one of the major access points for the southern area of the Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve. From here, you can easily get on the Anasazi Spur, the Ringtail Trail, Sunrise Trail, the Old Jeep Trail, and continue to other trails throughout the Preserve. The Lost Dog Wash Trail itself is 4.2 miles in length.

Tom’s Thumb Trail
Tom’s Thumb is a great cardio trail with stunning views from the top. It is 4 miles to the top where you can connect to other trails within the Preserve.

Butcher Jones
This 4.9-mile round-trip trail overlooks Saguaro Lake most of the way. It’s an easy trail with spectacular views of the lake, the canyon walls, and wildlife. Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch
The Guest Ranch’s riding stables provide guided horse trail rides through the Sonoran Desert in the majestic Goldfield Mountain range. The trail take you on saguaro-studded ridges, across and along the Lower Salt River, into dry arroyos, and up the creosote-covered hills that overlook Saguaro Lake.

CAMPING
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
MMRP offers 76 individual sites for tent or RV camping. Able to accommodate up to a 45-foot RV with water and electrical hookups, a dump station, picnic tables, and a BBQ fire ring. All restrooms offer flush toilets and showers. The south loop of the campground also offers handicapped-accessible restrooms. There are three group campgrounds an a large youth group area.

Usery Mountain Regional Park
UMRP offers 73 individual sites that can accommodate RVs up to 45-feet long. Includes water and electrical hookups, dump station, picnic table, BBQ grill, and fire ring. Restrooms have flush toilets and hot water showers. There are two group campgrounds without hookups.

Eagle View RV Resort (Fort McDowell)
Located east of Fountain Hills near the Verde River and Highway 87 in the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Eagle View has 150 state-of-the-art sites with full hookups, water & waste disposal, and WiFi. There is a fitness room, basketball courts, horseshoes, badminton, pickleball, Bocce, a dog run, and a heated pool/spa. Able to accommodate RV rallies and caravans of many sizes with various needs. Coon Bluff Campground
This campground is adjacent to the lower portion of the Salt River where a stand of mesquite trees provide shade. It is also a popular access point for tubers floating the Lower Salt River. It can accommodate tent campers and trailers under 40 feet. This is a dry camping site. Water is not available, but there is a toilet building. Overnight camping permitted from October 1 – March 31 on Friday and Saturday nights, plus Sunday nights before Columbus Day, MLK Jr. Day, and President’s Day.
