My life shares the same composition of points, lines and surfaces as architecture does. I believe architecture is the most comprehensive form of art and design. Not only does architecture incorporate art and engineering but also most significantly, the presence of people.

City of Birds / AA Third year, Intermediate 4 - 2017/2018
Early 18 centuries, to boost trade by allowing Tierra de Campos’ wheat grain production to be transported from Castile to the northern harbour of Santander and to other markets from there, the canal was started to construct in Palencia, Spain. Now the canal remained as 207km long. Unfortunately, even before the construction was done, the canal was left behind by the new rising technique of transportation. The whole canal of Castile was abandoned, however, it is now very actively used for irrigation. Thanks to the canal for helping the expansion of the environmental spectrum of the area which brought in the wetland to Spanish typical dryland. Change of the soil type affected ecosystem surrounded by the canal. Birds are one of them. After the canal was built, the birds that have many different habitations have brought into the site. Now, it became one of the most highlighted areas of bird protection in Europe.

Canal of Castille, it was built to boost trade by allowing wheat grain production to be transported from Castile to the northern harbour of Santander and to other markets. In that time boats were dragged by mules, 18 - 19c. The Canal was abandoned even before it finished its construction. Construction of the canal was not fast enough to catch up the newest technology, steam engine for trains, by industrialization in 19c. However, nowadays Castile area is slowly losing its diversified ecosystem due to the global desertification where it is changing the canal back to a typical dryland ecosystem.

Irrigation Connection from Canal to Tower Rain Cloud Genration & Bird Inhabitant Modular
“Some birds that are currently inhabiting the Castile area are threatened and considered as vulnerable birds in Europe.”
Water. Which actually made the canal to be here in the first and now it is helping it to stay. The irrigation from the canal helped the Castile area to have a spectrum of ecosystem from wet, where the canal is, to dry. Wildlife. The new vegetation was introduced new inhabiting ecosystem and it is mainly focused on the birds. Now it is also including the spectrum of birds. Bittern and Great bustard. The European Union is focusing on the biodiversity here. Essence. Global desertification is affecting the area by pulling the diverse ecology back to the linear dryland. As the villages lose people and its culture become abandoned. These preservation ideas by applicate water that is from the canal to amplify the wetland by existing salt marsh to keep diverse of the bio-circumstances.

Bird, canal, and tower are linked as one system, water is dragged from the canal to use in the tower for clouding system. And that tower works as the linking hub of irrigation. As it goes farther from the canal, the ratio of dryland over the wetland gets larger by the different parameter of vegetation. Each tower is constructed with a different combination of birds found within. This is the original tower that holds all the birds’ types.

1. Environment Preservation System Two preservation idea, water and wildlife, will help to generate the area to keep the status of the ecosystem in its maximum. TS looks into injecting system of rain and cloud for balancing the atmosphere of the area.
Abarca de Campos includes one of the salt marshes in Castile, Spain. It is showing how the water moved from the canal to further out to the land. Green lands which are more moisturized than the further farming area, typically wheat, is gravitated along the canal. To keep the spectrum of the land type, the tower diverse its size and parameters. From Closer tower to the canal to the further tower to the wheat farming land, it keeps different diameters of the salt marsh by its size. As the canal supports surrounding eco- diversities, harvest of the year gets better which brings people back to the area which lost them as the changes of the time. It becomes where the humans, birds and plant harmonize within their interdependence.
The size from bottom to top changes depending on the birds’ characteristics. For example, smaller birds that usually fly on a lower level occupy lower parts of the structure; with smaller pockets. As for larger birds, they will occupy larger pockets and slightly at a higher level. Finally, the largest bird like the Stork will occupy the top part which will grant them with more flexibility in creating their own suitable nest. Thus, as it goes higher the pockets get larger in size but more embossed. 6 - Sooyeon Lim

Manifesto I didn’t know since when it was, but I couldn’t really see some of my friends. It brought me the thought of, as some say and how the situation is like, are we almost done? On the other hand, someone say that there is a very nice place that everyone of us might like somewhere on the west, before crossing the great ocean. Maybe they moved there to survive. I was very interested in that place and getting more attracted, since it is so tough to live on this land. Today, as usual, I woke up early and went out for food but didn’t go well. I heard some people saying that there is desertification all over the world even they have problems with food. I tried some other places more southern where used to be called as an paradise between us that we don’t have to worry about at least what to eat. But probably that people were right, last time I went back there after long trip it was as bad as other places. We used to have many other threats and always decreasing the number of our kinds, but it seems pretty done. Almost extinct. Just at that time, it was time of the year to move. And when I was about to leave, I met an old friend. I was so happy to see a old mate, in this kind of situation. However, he looked stunning. He looked gained weight a bit and seems even shining. How can he be so fat? Where were he before? I had so many questions to ask even before I said ‘hi’ to him. On the way of moving, I had enough time to ask him all the questions. At the first I didn’t know where to start. He was just laughing and helped me through my struggle. I was more shocked after I heard what he said. He said there is a big new city.
Thanks to the birds moved into this area, it brings back the spectrum of ecosystem and helps better farming. Which lead people to come back to this area with interests of farming and seek for new ways to live together with birds. They know importance of balancing themselves with the birds and vegetation here.
As I heard, the city was just paradise for us. There was not much threats that I used to get from people which I liked the most. I decided to follow him this time and try the city. I couldn’t wait to see the place, I even thought I might stay if I like. On the way, there were series of unexpected things. The first thing was that I met few unusual faces, I had to re-check whether we are on the right path. He just said that everything can be understand when I arrive there. He looked at me as if a rustic goes to a big city for the first time. To be honest, it is true but I still felt not good. But still I was more into the fact that I can be full. When he said we are almost there, I was frightened because I knew this place. I even have been before and I know that this place is definitely not where we are looking for. It was typical area for dryland barely have wheats and stuffs. I ran to my friend and told him in slightly upset voice. But he didn’t care what I was mad at and keep on going to the way we were. Gradually the land become more and more green by the time. Which made me to stop whining and try to focus on the way. When I was stunned, something dropped on my forehead. It was water, which means its raining. I couldn’t believe it is raining in this typical dry area. The friend pointed the tall towers which I was even confused, I haven’t seen something like that before and to go in. I said yes for just to avoid rain. And the time I stepped in I realized I came in to the City of Birds.

Site Plan and Architecture of Konkuk Universiy / Graduation Design- 2016
Pattern study is to explore certain repetition occurs in the consequences of natural activity. We can easily find them everywhere yet, we haven’t realized. Through this project, I tried to give my own find definition to pattern I chose, and to interact between the material that to show pattern’s identity. When observing the natural world, it is not uncommon to notice certain rhythms or patterns of design. Some of these patterns can be as simple as repetition while other configurations can be much more complex, like geometric symmetry. In wood, a knot is a particular type of imperfection. It may be a flaw, indicating the location in the trunk where a branch died, but it is a peculiar flaw that causes (or allows) the rest of the grain to grow around it. Gnarled tree has both regular and irregular lines in the section. I put this pattern as the knot, deviation interferes with the rhythmic tree rings. Knot works as the factor to make the uniformed pattern to release itself and discipline fades in at the moment.
Drawings for searching and examining the pattern in lines
Pattern in 10*10*10 cube / Axonometric view
Process of gnarled pattern to cube / Top view Front view
Knot in the wood has repetiting system of evasion and attraction. Straight lines in a tree gets curvy and dodging near the knot and after passing it, lines are drew back to each other. In the 10*10*10 cube, the main concept has filled. I chose to set the straight lines as default mass and curve transformation as void. Extrusion of each sides makes different void in the core of the cube. 8 - Sooyeon Lim Lim

The concept of garden museum is for both academic study and cultural experiences. The museum would serve current students, prospective artists as well as alumni artists, providing a space to highlight their talents and elevate their professional value through exhibitions and galleries. Exported parking lots and reduced approach from inside of the campus by car. Also, enlarged field and park will give students to emphasize importance of exercises. These areas help students of Konkuk University to flourish memories and important for their activities. People
will let go of ordinary customs, academic stress and regulation in the campus eventually become liberal and artistic frontier as philosophy of Konkuk University. Through the “Knot in the Wood, I wish to emphasize the terrain of the museum site and surrounding movements. The shape of the traffic flow is directed by the same principles of actual knots in wood by grouping department buildings together. Most of the campus is situated on flatlands but the museum site is on one of the main hills.

House for Magritte and Rouse / 4th Year Studio - 2016
The house of Magritte and Rousse is a space where the artists of different styles co-inhibit, where they co-exist, and where their arts co-exist. Rene Magritte an internationally acclaimed surrealist artist, who gives new meanings to objects, by rendering meaningful objects meaningless or instilling significance to meaningless objects. He gives illusionistic, dreamlike quality to his surreal painting, by depicting usual objects in an extraordinary context. George Rousse, on the other hand, is a French photographer and artist. He uses his frame of camera in his art to transform the three-dimensional places into a flat photography by optical illusions. Confined in his photo frames, any cubic effects and depth are ignored and the general perceptions of space are redefined from the viewpoint. Magritte and Rousse are by and large, have completely different ways in which they express themselves, i.e. Magritte creates three-dimensions with the paintings whereas Rousse seeks to remove the three-dimensional elements, illusion is the common tool they use in their arts.

In the painting of ‘Le Blanc Seing’ , Magritte give misunderstanding by mixing the depth order of trees and the woman riding horse. From the painting, combination of vertical tree line series, horizontal depth of them and the woman makes illusion of 3-dimensional effect on the flat painting. Diagram of the painting’s perspective
René Magritte and Georges Rouse made illusions between 2D and 3D.
One of Georgr Rouse’s Works
Although, the way of diffusion which Rouse gave was rather excluding the depth of a certain area of his selection at a point of view to two dimensional space. By flattening the three dimensional space to a drawinglike space, he gives new meaning of utopic area.

Projection of G. Rousse has injected to the mass of R. Magritte. From the as the mass stays. As the contrast of these two person, Magritte has its openings projection, the house which was fully Magritte’s, though Rousse’s and common to perpendicular axis of the inner order, on its contrary Rousse has them from area has been made. In the newly occurred space, every orders are aligned toward front to back, from the side where the projection starts to where it heads. the point where the projection starts, yet Magritte’s rooms are still in vertical order
