An oversize book design, each page measuring 13" X 16.5", featuring Wendell Berry's writings. The book includes a large excerpt from a short story, five poems, and an essay.
Much of Wendell Berry's writing alludes to the interaction of humans with their surroundings: nature, their community, and the ones they hold closest. Humans are not independent of their environment, as much as they believe they may have free will. Every move makes an impact. I chose to represent this theme by driving the pace of the book with enormous, expressive fingerprints. Though fingerprints are manmade, they have an organic sensibility and tone. They literally "leave a trace" with every new touch. While their form reminds us of our primitive, essential intertwinement with nature, it also evokes --- whether we like it or not --- the manmade world in which we live.
