FLYST is a mark of my learning process in multistyle and multiscript type family design for body texts. It is my first text typeface, my first research and exploration of the Tamil script and my determination to craft a typeface with character and personality.¶
It has Variable Axes for weight, optical size, and styles for both Latin and Tamil scripts. The Latin styles transition between Serif and Flared, while the Tamil features a range of slants* which can be used for emphasis or hierarchy in type setting.¶
Universal Italic
style was designed to work harmoniously with both serif and flared styles. As an example, here is a sentence set in Italic to demonstrate how it sits with the Latin styles in paragraph setting. Followed by some sentences in Serif Book. The previous text paragraphs are set in Flared Regular and the large texts are set in Flared Display. ¶

Instead of style matching the Tamil and Latin scripts, they harmonise by referring to historical forms and proportions. Some common features include similar stroke widths, modulation and the flavour of their outstrokes. Spacing proportions are similar, however wider for Tamil script to allow legibility for their naturally wider letter forms.

As a unicase script, the Tamil raises its middleheight or pa-height (ப்) above the Latin x-height for better optical size matching. Compared to Latin, Tamil extenders are longer to accomodate more complex and clustered shapes. A baseline is shared.

2 6. Vowel-Consonants. உயிரசெம்ய எழ்த்து. The 216 Vowel-Consonants are formed by joining each of the 12 Vowels with the 18 Consonants. Example. கா joined to அ = கா ங்் „ அ = ங்் கா „ ஆ = காா ங்் „ ஆ = ங்ா 7.
(Surds) வால எழ்் த்து. Hard letters are 6, viz: – க, ச, ட், த, ப், ற. 8.
(Nasals) செம்ல எழ்் த்து. Soft letters are 6, viz: – ங், ஞ், ண், ந், ம், ன. 9.
(Liquids) இமைட் எழ்் த்து.

12. Interrogative letters. வினா
There are 5 Interrogative letter: – ஆ, எ, ஏ, ஓ, யா.
and யா are used initially.
ஆ and ஓ „ „ finally.
ஏ is used both initially and finally.
Example.
எ and யா. எவான்்? = who? யாது? = which?
ஆ and ஓ அவானா? அவாதோனா? = Is it he?
ஏ ஏன்்? = why? அதோத? = Is it that?
13. Kindred Letters. இள் எழ்் த்து.
அ and ஆ, இ and ஈ, உ and ஊ, எ and ஏ, ஐ and இ, ஒ and ஓ, ஔ and உ; கா and ங்், ை and ஞ்், ட்் and ண், த and நா், ப்் and ம்், ற்் and ன்், are kindred to each other. The Medial Consonants ய், ர், ல், வா், ழ்், ள்், are of one kindred.
14. Naming of Tamil letters. எழ்த்துக்களின சாரிமைய.
In naming the Tamil letters, we add the particle, அ, அகாம்், அகாரம்் or அஃகான to a Consonant, (2) The particle காம்், காரம்் or கான to a Short Vowel and a Short Vowel-Con sonant, (3) The particle காரம்் to ஆ, ஈ, ஊ, ஏ, and ஓ, (4) and the particle காரம்் or கான to ஐ and ஔ.
☞ A Long Vowel-Consonant is added to no particle and the Consonant should always be pronounced with any one of the particles mentioned above.

GRATIN DAUPHINOIS
Méthode
Epluchez, lavez et coupez en rondelles fines les pommes de terre. Hachez l'ail.
Portez à ébullition le lait dans une casserole, ajoutez la crème, l'ail, sel, poivre et muscade.
Préchauffez le four à 180 °C. Beurrez un plat à gratin. Placez les pommes de terre dans le plat.
Recouvrez avec le mélange de crème et enfournez pour 50 minutes.

In 2018, choreographer William Forsythe and our dancers gave audiences a high when we premiered Playlist (Track 1, 2). Juxtaposing ballet classicism and athleticism with the beats of neo-soul and house music, it left the crowd whooping and wanting to join in.

In 2022, it returns – now expanded into Playlist (EP), with six music tracks ranging from Khalid and Barry White to Lion Babe, and up to 30 dancers on stage. This dance party just got bigger.
Rounding out the triple bill are two stunning works.
Blake Works I is a soulful piece for 21 dancers set to seven songs from James Blake’s album The Colour in Anything. Solos, duets and intricate group formations reflect the poetic melodies and words of Blake’s music.
Approximate Sonata 2016 is a series of stripped down duets: their complex choreography surprises and seems to carve out the air around the dancers. Originally created in 1996, Forsythe reworked this piece for Paris Opera Ballet.
We are proud to honour this master choreographer in a special programme celebrating his enduring love and curiosity for ballet.
