We truly believe in celebrating these simple yet meaningful moments, creating spaces that inspire new memories while honouring the timeless traditions we hold dear to us. We caught up with Sophie to discover her Christmas traditions and what she loves most about the festive period.
“Christmas has always been one of my favourite times of the year, ever since I was little. The build-up to Christmas is magical, from getting the tree and decorating it as a family to spending quality time with loved ones.
Christmas Eve has always been my favourite day of the year though. I love the anticipation and excitement of getting ready for Christmas Day, and traditionally, it has always been a very sociable occasion in my household.
When I was younger, we would always attend the Christmas Eve service at Lincoln Cathedral and head back to my Aunt and Uncle’s house for drinks and canapes with friends and family.
It was always so much fun! Although we have all moved away and have families of our own, we have kept the tradition going – we now attend our village church on Christmas Eve and then head back to our house for drinks and canapes in front of the roaring fire.
As a mother to three boys, I love that Christmas brings everyone together. Once the boys return from their adventures elsewhere, we always find time to sit down and watch a Christmas film together – we have many favourites from Elf and Home Alone to The Holiday, and of course, not forgetting the classic Love Actually!
Still to this day, before heading to bed on Christmas Eve, we hang our stockings by the fireplace, and we leave mince pies, carrots, and a glass of whisky in front of the fire, ready for the magic to begin on Christmas Day.”

Twinkling lights illuminate high streets, homes up and down the road are filled with laughter and joy, and festive music sets the mood for the season. There’s something truly special about decking the halls for Christmas – it’s a chance to welcome a new season mood into the home, and it’s also a chance to reflect on past festive moments.
Christmas for you
Christmas is for making the most of every moment, and decorating is one of those that brings joy. Your home should reflect you and what you love. Whether you’re choosing to layer up for an intimate, cosy family get-together or you’re opening the doors for seasonal hosting. Plan in advance to surprise and delight your guests, from thoughtful and personalised place settings to napkins, placemats and table runners that make everyone smile. Finish with foliage, candles and glimmering glassware. Crackers are always a must, opening the celebrations with a festive bang.

Tree ready
The tradition of getting the tree is often a true indication that Christmas really is just around the corner. We love a real tree, but it can be tricky to find ‘the one’ – the perfect height, the fullness from top to bottom or the right type of needles that won’t drop as soon as you’ve got home. It’s all in the detail, and for us, that happiness can magically come from a box, pre-lit with warm white LED lights and a choice in height – 6ft or 7ft. It can be a tradition on its own, unboxing the tree, gently guiding the branches into place and dressing together.

Perfectly Practical

When selecting candles, flowers, and foliage, consider the height to avoid obstructing the view across the table.
The Art of Layering
Layering your placemats, plates, and napkins adds depth to your place setting, creating a memorable look that’s warm and welcoming, while also adding an extra touch of seasonal cheer and charm. Use natural materials like sprigs of pine between your linens – it brings the outdoors in and creates a beautiful contrast due to the difference in textures.
Be Creative
For a more traditional touch, fold napkins into classic shapes like Christmas trees or stars, placing a small bauble or bell at the top for a playful accent. If you prefer something a little more whimsical, tuck a candy cane or festive cracker into your napkin fold, creating an inviting surprise for your guests as they sit down at the table.

Christmas Fruit Cake Recipe
Ingredients
1kg mixed dried fruit (raisins, sultanas, currants, cherries, cranberries)
1 orange (juice and zest)
1 lemon (juice and zest)
150ml brandy (plus extra for feeding)
250g softened butter
200g light soft brown sugar
175g plain flour
½ tsp baking powder
2 tsp mixed spice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground cloves
100g ground almond
100g flaked almonds
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
Sophie's Tip
Prepare this delicious fruit cake around 6 – 8 weeks before Christmas Day.
Directions
Step One:
In a large pan, add your mixed dried fruit, juice and zest of your orange and lemon, brandy, softened butter, and light soft brown sugar. Mix and bring to the boil over a medium heat. Once boiled, reduce heat and simmer for five minutes. Transfer the fruit mixture to a large bowl and cool for 30 minutes.
Step Two:
Whilst your mixture cools, preheat your oven to 150C, 130C fan, or gas mark 2. Line a deep 20cm cake tin with a double layer of baking paper.
Step Three:
Once your fruit mixture has cooled, add plain flour, baking powder, mixed spice, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, ground almonds, flaked almonds, four large eggs and vanilla extract and stir well, ensuring no pockets of flour.
Step Four:
Once thoroughly mixed, pour into your prepared tin and level with the base of a spoon. Bake in the centre of the oven for approx. two hours. If you notice your cake going darker than expected, cover the top with baking paper.
Step Five:
Once your fruit cake is cooked, poke holes in the top and spoon over your brandy. Leave the cake to cool completely.
Step Six:
Peel off your baking paper and store your cake in a cake tin. You should feed your cake with 1–2 tbsp of alcohol every fortnight – we prefer the traditional brandy.
Step Seven:
If you prefer, you can add icing to your cake or sprinkle over a dusting of icing sugar when ready to serve on Christmas Day.
