I am a highly motivated and conscientious Architecture Graduate, with a strong interest in healthcare architecture. Particular strengths include team collaboration, research skills, time management and organisation, which complement my architectural software skills and design abilities. My previous experiences have helped solidify these skills and enabled me to pursue my interests in practice and research. I am now looking forward to the next step in my career to further advance these abilities and interests.
Masters of Architecture Thesis:
The traditional fishing communities of Mumbai have lost control over their condition. Economic infrastructures, bureaucracy and the increasingly globalised trade network have marginalised the livelihood of the local fisherman. The insertion of architectural propositions into this situation is designed to initiate a reaction within the urban fishing networks of Mumbai and to re-calibrate the social and economic imbalance that exists there. This is achieved through the insertion of six agencies, and their associated infrastructures, into the urban scale, which enable productivity at The Loving Metropolitan Landscape, Series of Enzymatic Territories, Building and Body scales.
MA Architecture Fourth Year Studio Thesis: Youth homelessness is a serious issue in the city of Edinburgh. This project considered the needs of this vulnerable group of society and how to provide for them both functionally as well as materially and experientially. What does a young homeless person need from a living space? What do they need from a learning environment? The site I chose was in the heart of Edinburgh on a steeply sloping site beneath Edinburgh Castle. By locating the project in such a prominent location it intended to communicate how valued the users were by their city and the rest of society. The design process jumped between city, body and building scales with each design decision the concept througout.
Concept and Final Models; timber, plaster, steel Model making was an invaluable element of the design process for this project enabling concepts to be tested and communicated at every stage of the process. Crafting physical models is a skill I honed over 7 years of architectural design studios.
MA Architecture Third Year Studio Thesis: If we have a full understanding of the cultural, emotional and architectural value of heritage we can then create sensitive architectural interventions which add value to a place of historic importance and can augment the experience of different users. This project sought to create a multifunctional space in the grounds of the medieval Tantallon Castle on the east coast of Scotland. The plan and elevation both used series of solids and voids to control and mediate the views of the castle available to different users of the programme.
Helen Lucas Architects, Part 1 Architectural Assistant Spent four months at a respected architectural practice in Edinburgh which specialises in high quality, bespoke residential and commercial projects. I worked on several projects across various stages of the design and construction process. I was tasked with the production of drawings for all stages of work from Concept Design through to Tender Documentation. I was also involved in projects during the construction phase, including numerous site visits and meetings with the clients and contractors. This experience gave me a full understanding of the design and construction process as well as honing my ability to balance work of multiple projects at one time.
Murphy Philipps Architects, Part 2 Architectural Assistant Asked to create standard room design for the ProCure21 National Framework. These rooms were to be modelled in a warehouse environment to allow clients to better understand finishings and sizings of rooms supplied by P21 providers. Design included bathroom location, lighting and colour and material palettes options and bespoke furniture design.
Reception Desk joinery detail expressing required depths and heights as well as panels with recessed lighting and material choices.
Murphy Philipps Architects; Pevensey Oncology Ward

ULI Hines Student Competion 2016 Entered the ULI Hines Student Competition as part of a multi-disciplinary student team from PennDesign and Wharton. The competition required a redevelopment proposal for several blocks of Midtown Atlanta produced over a two week period in January. Issues included; improving access and use of public transport, provision of pedestrian and cycle thoroughfares and augmenting the Atlanta economy as well as environmental and sustainability concerns.
Architecture Biennale 2014: Scottish Modernists In the summer of 2014 I was invited to be one of the two student members of Reich + Hall’s team for Scotland’s representation at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2014. I conducted research throughout the summer into Edinburgh’s forgotten Modernist Architecture which was published in a document and circulated by the team at the Biennale in October 2014. At the end of October we held a panel discussion of international contributors as the final event. In January 2015 I sat on a panel at The Lighthouse, Glasgow hosted by Architecture + Design Scotland launching the exhibition of Scotland’s presence at the 2014 Biennale.
