Artistic influences.
Ford designed the iconic coupe as a means of escape and to give interest as a hobby. Futuristic in design, trust in machine. Also means for travel (escape). Advertising of products held women to the housewife stereoptype.
Architecture
Post world war II people lost a lot of trust to those in power of their society. Pressures of money, family and economy drove society to means of escape. Artists referenced the imagination and irratic decisions therefore pieces like Pollock (right) show us unthought out means of expression.
Atomic age and concerns of nuclear war dominated the cold war period. Influenced by atomic science and the space age. Designs were called retrofuturism to represent the way in which society dominated all aspects of trends. Fashion also influenced architecture through shape, form and texture.
Product Design
Surrealism and post-modernism were the biggest art movements of the time. The collage affect and deliberate mishaped objects left viewers with thought evoking art that gave them distraction to the mishap of the world they were living in.
