Carbon Crack

Macro trends this season explore the elemental micro trend that carbon crack originates from, offering an escape from the vast eternal development of modern culture. Deriving from

the natural aspects of life, focusing on subtle religious and spiritual influences, this A/W 16/17 trend holds a cold mineral theme with a particular focus on rusting, cracking and fossil stones.

However, these very subtle decays, originally inspired by derelict buildings are contrasted with metallic, iridescent unique colours and sheens, using transparency, oil spills and coated carbon to emphasize how the cold stormy weather can influence our winter fashion statement.

Type Down Trim

Typography is enduring a classic return as this seasons trends take the catwalk. The original bold typeface slogans spread across the garments are taking a new approach with small-scale

lettering to refine the look this A/W 16/17. Scaling is a key aspect for this paredback approach within the placement to create this discrete outtake on the original chest graphics.

Instigating from the gaming bold typeface looks through quotes and logos, designers are bringing this style towards and therefore into the luxury market through the use of quality over quantity to explore the brands and their eminent logos.

The Cultured Chippa

A historical gesture of the traditional and cultured prints originating from the depths of India; create the botanical directions of the distinctive floral Indian patterns in S/S

16. This innovation takes an autumnal, rich colour palette. Cultured Chippa explores block printing creating beautiful and handcrafted fashion pieces.

Using tribal patterns and influences, this print and graphic uses repetitive patterns. Steering the trend away from previous casual bohemian athletics, this particular season looks at a more luxurious style and colour palette to create an upmarket nomadic look.

Mundane Mirage

Following the VM trends for A/W 16/17, expect to see in-store environments taking a turn from existing lo-fi objects to create artistic in-store displays. The ‘Mundane Mirage’ trend will

feature metallics to create everyday utopias within retail spaces. Previously seen as a trend using makeshift fixtures and prop solutions to show the true man-made beauty of materials.

This will be seen, turning the mundane into exquisite objects and displays with a polished gold feel. Makeshift objects with rough textures and obvious lo-fi creations are changing to be viewed in a more luxurious way, transforming the way we view luxury. Mundane objects are a key trend for this upcoming season, from the trend driver ‘Eco-Active’.

Indoor Eden

This A/W 16/17 ‘Indoor Eden’ trend explores the visual merchandising and in-store craze towards the clean living phenomenon trending worldwide. The idea of outdoors indoors creates a

calming atmosphere which is what brands are really striving to achieve to entice and therefore maximise customers.

The summer is always too far away when we are dragging through the cold months of fashion and from this trend it allows us to get a feel of the light at the end of the tunnel throughout the retail experience. Clean eating and healthy living is a vital trend that won’t be disappearing any time soon.

Kitsch Kandy

A refined look of ethereal pastels and washed fluro tones is expected, moving away from cartoon kitsch to form ‘Kitsch Kandy’. A/W 16/17 expect to see a step away from the typical

cute, innocent connotations in ‘candy’ styled displays. A sophisticated design is taken this on to break away from the typical stereotypes linked to femininity and pastel shades.

A contrast will be seen between soft/feminine and angular structures/hard materials. It will combine structure and precision to move away from the girly, representation of pastel palettes. It will partake in a modern rebranding of feminism, where genders will cross and the lines will be blurred for gender neutrality to be explored in all forms.

Cosmic Cadet

This innovation is portrayed though metallics for a more graphic approach from this traditional camouflage pattern. Originating from military influences this A/W 16/17 trend is enhancing

the modern aspect of fashion in a futuristic sheen. Its metallic colour palette, accenting the fatigue green flush, holds the historic army references to traditionalize this up coming trend.

Its modernized pattern held within the silhouette, gives it a sophisticated approach making the original elements of its historical constructed outlook remain present. The fast paced society ideals of acceptance enhance this trend through its print, reflecting todays culture through the conforms of blending into todays background.

A Man’s Best Friend

Fur is seen luxurious due to its reputation. Times changing and the latest trend is happening as designers are shying away from using real fur for luxury garments. Fast fashion is never ending and

due to demand in cheap accessible items they are encouraged to follow the faux fur trends. Faux and printed textures are on the rise in an attempt for a sustainable approach.

Brands moving away from using animals, fur is phasing out, with Vivienne Westwood appealing against the fur fashion trend. Gender blurring items became fashion in 13/14 and brands featured silhouettes creating gender neutralization. This A/W looks at materials and graphics being used in both male and female shifting gender roles and stereotypes.

Laid-Back Luxe

Here ‘Comfort meets class’ inspires this new A/W 16/17 trend where baggy trousers and oversized cardigans take the catwalk. As a slight modification from the long, oversized t-shirts in S/S

13/14, this trend highlights all garments the oversized developing on from the athleisure wear trend, which has been unavoidable over the past two years.

Laid-back Luxe takes a more urban aesthetic, changing street style to make it more avant-garde. Inspiration generating from graphic and interior trends, this look is minimalistic creating menswear items, which can be dressed up or down.
