Rationale (200 words) Throughout the course of the OUGD301 Design Practice III module, I hope to create a body of work that is reflective of my ambitions to create conceptual and innovative brand solutions, balancing both image-driven and typographic design, whilst working with clients on an individual and personalised basis with a focus on brand and market ethics within the clients specific sector. With a variety of both self initiated and live client briefs, I also hope to emulate and experience the work timetable and project outcomes that may ordinarily be found in a professional design studio. Proposed research Areas & Themes - (400 words) Throughout the module my main area of focus and research will be branding, promotion and marketing throughout the various sectors of the clients I will be working with in live, competition, and collaborative briefs which consist of Photography, Ballet and Performing Arts, Architecture, corporate identity and the greetings card industry respectively. Throughout my contextual research I have evaluated and examined the existing industry and design for the industry, as well as the portfolio and work of the clients to generate a visually communicative range of design outcomes/brand specific to both the client and the industry in which they work, to ensure that their work and brand positively stands out, but doesn’t alienate their target audience or contacts within the same industries. I have also expanded upon my existing design portfolio to other areas and specialisms of design within the industry to broaden both my knowledge of design processes, as well as being able to offer the client a more diversified range of product outcomes. I have looked closely at the development of brand and identity, along with editorial design for portfolio and promotional publication through both screen and print-based devices, and also hope to broaden my knowledge and experience of webbased design throughout the Final Major Project module to help strengthen my understanding of branding, and how it can be diversified and applied to a live context for design professionalism and realisation.
