1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? I am really glad that I decided to take the Image as my optional module. Although type would have undoubtedly been very interesting and useful in the development of editorial design, which is, perhaps, one of my weaker areas, I feel that my love of illustrative design has grown even more, and through the design briefs (both given and self initiated) have really inspired new designs and methods of working. As a result of my increased confidence with my design capabilities within image, I have decided to partake on a “design a day project, which ensures that I keep on top of my illustrative and type as image design, based upon blogging one design per day for a year. Along with self initiated tutorials, experimentations with design processes such as digital printing, book binding and laser cutting, I have, especially, developed a love and interest for type as image design, and would like to continue researching and progressing within this design medium. 2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? Through extensive research of existing design, examples of which are recorded on my design context blog, I have been really inspired to be more experimental with my design practice and to actively explore new methods and techniques of design production. I feel a lot more confident with my illustrative style, and my ability to produce work in a short time frame, once again returning to the short one week briefs that were more familiar in the first year, and my planning and organisation is much stronger as a result. 3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? I feel that my research development has grown a great deal throughout this module, and I now feel most comfortable when researching my subject matter before visually communicating the subject matter itself, to the extent of which I now see myself as a research- driven designer, specialising in illustrative and printed design. I think that my confidence to try new things has grown throughout this module due to the nature of the variation of the brief in the given tasks, and I really appreciate being able to try design for different purposes such as editorial illustration, printed publication, type as image, and so on.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? I feel as though I could have experimented a great deal more within this module. Given more time, I would have really liked to experiment with more printing processes as well as design techniques to give more variation to my design portfolio (potentially in the light of contacting design studios RE visits and potential work placements over the summer…). I would also really liked to have to dedicated more time to going over some of my older designs that I wasn’t entirely happy with (blogged and commented on throughout) such as the ‘Scale/Frame/Format’ brief, and re-designed them, though time wasn’t on my side, which I was quite disappointed about- though I have certainly learnt from it, and hope that in the future I can manage my time more effectively. 5. Identify things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? 1. Spend more time experimenting with printing processes to see what variation I can achieve in terms of the visual outcomes of my designs, and see the effectiveness of the variations alongside one another. 2. Do more focused researched into the design areas of which I am working- look outside of the internet for a wider knowledge and insight into the specific mediums. 6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ‘x’) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1

Attendance Punctuality Motivation X Commitment X Quantity of work produced X Quality of work produced X Contribution to the group X The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
