Amy Holt of Designs on Madison, along with her expert and ingenious staff, Jill Koch and Aubrey Williams, have once again created a home interior of imagination and chrome-sleek elegance. This magnificent new chateau, built by the meticulous team at Hueber Homes, is sublimely nestled on the rolling land of a former horse farm and looks as stunning in exurban Cincinnati as it would in the Loire Valley.
The interiors from Designs on Madison belie the home’s Francophilic exterior, for inside the home offers exacting homage to the homeowner’s all-American love for the automobile. In working hand-in-hand with Amy, Jill, and Aubrey, each exacting specification was hit en pointe. Every room is a study in effective design, and there is no waste in the dynamic function of this gorgeous residence. Per Andy Hueber at Hueber Homes, with this particular project, the client has a vision and a definite style, and the architects designed a home perfectly tailored to their active lifestyle. Once Amy and her crew were engaged, the team was complete, and the synergy developed effortlessly with the client, builder, and design team.
The design element imparted in the space is air and light which grace the home’s entry, leading into the Great Room, kitchen, and breakfast room. The tones and textures are distinctly masculine but are executed in controlled, subdued, and decidedly suave fashion. The kitchen is a masterpiece in white and black and stainless pops, and intricate mosaic in black, gold, and white above the stove. Functional zinc tops grace the kitchen counters, and the breakfast room dining table is crowned by a lighting fixture of what could be the headlamps of a 1934 Ford Coupe. The Great Room is lux and lushly inviting, a smoky leather couch hugs a stone hearth with tall, white, built-in cabinetry. The home’s owner repurposed an ancient tree on the lot for the fireplace mantle, which adds a warm and comforting element to the space.
The home’s master suite is a sumptuous retreat, all custom-crafted and executed by Amy and her design team. A lush and expansive headboard is a streamlined complement to the exquisitely appointed custom bedding. A deep white shag throw rug contrasts impeccably with gleaming dark floors. The master spa and bath sport other design elements near and dear the homeowner: a river stone tile in the steam shower harkens back to a trip to Fiji and the shower detail gives the impression of a rainforest downpour.
There is a hint of the feminine to be found in the wife’s elegant office space. As with most chateaux, Chateau De Ville boasts a turret adjacent to the master suite. Within this stunning room, Designs on Madison have once again worked their magic. Light floods the two-story round room whose walls sparkle with platinum foiled wallpaper reflecting an intricate silver and platinum rug. A splash of light lavender in pillows on the creamy white sloping armchairs add elegant charm. The magnificent chandelier crowns the room in true queen fashion, floating above the space in regal suspension.
In contrast, the home’s downstairs is where the king’s office resides, replete with a gleaming golden bar, entertainment space, and a wonderful art deco guest suite. (I use “king” tongue in cheek to impart the bit of whimsy the homeowner has incorporated in every room of the home with small Elvis sendups. Very tremendously subtle and tastefully executed, there might be a tiny chrome Elvis on the shelf, or a vintage Elvis liquor decanter on the bar, or a ceramic bust in a nook.) The downstairs also houses a wine room with wonderful details including a bank vault door, vintage safes, and reflect the owner’s penchant for decorating with early 20th-century mechanical objects d’art.
It is remarkable that the family’s husband was the catalyst in the ultimate vision for the home, and more importantly, how seamlessly Designs on Madison could execute this elaborate and detailed project. The husband’s love of streamlined and powerful cars has been elegantly woven into each detail, masculine and powerful, yet sleek and hip and trendsetting. It is a place where Steve McQueen might settle in nicely.
