Sophisticated Giving: BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERs

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass, our mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth, and our vision is that all children reach their true potential. We work toward that vision by creating lasting relationships that we call matches between mentors and children. Our staff works carefully to make sure that each of our “Littles” is matched with a “Big” who is not only compatible but also safe and reliable.

Once matches are made, they are then monitored, supported, and provided with resources and activities that help contribute to the quality time they spend together. We are firm believers in the fact that the power of positive relationships can change the world. Even though our matches haven’t been meeting in person as much as they used to, they’re still finding creative ways to interact and build powerful relationships that will have an effect on them for the rest of their lives. In this time of uncertainty, when things are constantly changing from day to day, our Bigs remain a consistent source of positivity in the lives of their Littles. They continue to stand in their corner and defend their potential.

Unfortunately, our agency has witnessed a significant decline in funding due to the pandemic, and like many other nonprofits, have been struggling to make ends meet, all while making sure the families we serve don’t have to. These past few months have looked a lot different for us. We’ve gone from making and supporting matches behind the scenes, to delivering meals, supplies, and toys, and providing additional resources and support to the families we serve. As we continue to face the uncertainties of this year and beyond, we’re all going to be relying on our relationships to make it through, together. And now more than ever, we’re relying on our relationships with our donors and friends to be able to continue defending the potential of young people for years to come.
