Challenges
Faculty Response
Locating appropriate OER material is difficult for some areas of study. Some OER materials do not have the support materials/technologies that textbooks from publishing companies have. It is time-consuming to remix. It is time-consuming to create labs and videos needed.
Benefits
Faculty Response
Cost savings on textbooks and codes for the students Integration of OER with Canvas Availability of math question banks without having to create our own. Collaboration with instructors across the nation ( Scottsdale Community College)
Ability to organize lectures and course work so that the material flows better in the classroom More uniform instruction across the curriculum

Math Booster Camp Using OER
Faculty Buy-In and Sustainability The math faculty were excited about the advantages of OER. The College received an Innovation Initiatives Grant (ACCS)to aid in the development.
OER Math courses developed since 2015: MTH090, MTH098, MTH100, MTH116, MAH101 Future OER courses at LBWCC Physical Science I General Chemistry I&II Microbiology
Faculty Buy-In and Sustainability The welding and industrial electronics faculty were hesitant at first but soon realized how OER would benefit the students. Instructors feel that the lectures now better connect with the labs.
Welding instructors developed rubrics to score labs. In the welding and industrial electronics courses, the instructors were teaching from parts of textbooks. This is not uncommon with textbooks. The TAACCCT (AF-TEN) Grant (USDA) allowed customization of the materials that the instructors needed for each course. Power Points, labs, quizzes, exams, videos and illustrations were developed for: 11 Welding courses ( 2 of the 11 are hybrid courses) 4 hybrid Industrial Electronics courses
