Troy Students and Faculty OER Feedback • “I am the sole provider in my house and buying expensive books every few weeks is taxing on my

family. Because of that, I can only take one class at a time. I spent nearly $500 on books for two classes.

• I loved the OpenStax free textbook. Not everyone qualifies for financial aid, like myself. So it was

always such a burden to try to scramble and find the money to buy a $200.00 textbook that the Instructor wanted you to have on day one. This is the most important reason why I will continue my education at Troy University

“As an instructor, OER has been an amazing tool for leveling the playing field in the classroom. Every student has the same resources and the same opportunities to not only be prepared for class, but to also be engaged in the material since the text is readily available long before the first class session. No more hoping everyone has a book or the financial means to purchase the course materials...I can start teaching from day one. The increase in active instructional time has really made a positive difference for me and my students.”
