Urban Infrastructure: West Harlem Vertical Park The existing Marine Transfer Station between Riverside Park and Riverbank State park is a blight for the West Harlem community. The existing piers serve as an ideal location to provide connectivity between the community and the waterfront as well as provide linkages between major portions of the west side greenbelt developing along Manhattan. Programs within the park seeking to draw the community to the Hudson include, parkspace, community gardens and beekeeping, bike rentals, music performance area, gaming pavilions, and lastly a restaurant and bar, acitvating the park during both day and evening hours.

Boat House: Structural Canopy For Columbia University’s new proposed boathouse at the mouth of Spuyten Duyvil, a hexagonal grid imposed upon the landscape and structural grid meld roof intervention and landscape together, uniting Columbia University rowing team and community space program. The hexagonal grid allows for structural and programmatic organization, in which columns gather and splice forming a vaulted roofing system. Geothermal and solar systems incorporated into the building add to the overall intent of a modern boathouse.

Dormitory: Spatial and Social Zipper For Pratt Institute’s proposed gradutate dormitory, the analog study of the zipper provided a tactile and ideological source for discovery. The zipper provided an interlocking techtonic, promoting a means of intermixing students for an engaging social living space. The student residence features large vertical social lounge spaces, which incorporate an idea of vertical campus. These bright lounges contain social programs like, kitchen, lounge, and workspaces/studios.

Charette: Pietralunga Cinema The small Umbrian town of Pietralunga invited the Pratt Rome students to an eight hour design charette for the town. Of the sites in most need of renovation, the dilapidated cinema called for a complete transformation into a multi-use library and cinema for events, films and overall gathering spaces for the town. While maintaining civic storage space, and the main structure of the building, the facade opens the upper level with storage risers providing seating and book storage. The lower level houses existing civic storage as well as a small cafe overlooking the beautiful rolling Umbrian hills. Team: Cameron Reid, Han Cho, Mia Inhwan Choi
