The portfolio consists of 3 projects, which differ in scope, complexity, and level of inventiveness. Being a fifth-year student I won’t dare say I’ve collected enough content to assemble it in a separate portfolio, but let it be a starting point for a reasonable and mature architecture activity.

TSUM was erected in 1964. It was a three-story building with a gallery on the first floor. In 1990s TSUM was undergoing reconstruction. Two extra storeys and a turret were added, and the gallery on the first floor was eliminated. The building has been changed drastically. The reconstruction destroyed the image of the soviet universal store, thus, I decided to come up with my own vision of possible reconstruction project, taking into consideration the long life of the building and merging together original sovietskost and subsequent postmodernism.

The main elements: 1. The turrel — landmark, symbol, angle, where the Independence avenue turns right and J. Kolosa square flanks. 2. Arcade on the first floor (before the first reconstruction — gallery).

1. New vision of the old turrel. 2. Preserving the gallery on the first and second floor.

TOW N

OF

IVENETS

The goal of this university project is to plan a small town in the settlement system. It implies the objective to design a town in the outlands of Belarus. Taking into account the fact that there is no need to build new towns in Belarus, we were supposed to take an existing town as an example and present its new vision. h b

Ivenets is a small town 70 km away from Minsk. The population is 4,200 people. It is situated in a picturesque area among forests, river, and hills. Nalibokskiy reserve is situated nearby.

IVENETS

Reflecting on the focus/ purpose/functionality and role of the town in scope of the republic, I stopped at the idea of a medical (cancer) center as the main city-forming factor. In Belarus, each regional city has a regional oncological hospital and one national hospital in located Borovlyany. I decided to create a huge republic-wide oncological research centre in Ivyanets, preserving the historical city centre and ecological wireframe.

CATHEDRAL TRADE SQUARE

Founded in the 14th century, the image of Ivenets has a traditional urban pattern: the network of streets starts from the trade square in the heart of the town.

Our slogan was: «NATURE TAKING OVER» Being aware of the ecological situation in The Netherlands, we were working on the case according to which the population wouldn’t confront nature, rather, adapt to its changing environment/ phenomena. We were dreaming up radical options when water fills the streets turning them to canals, wild nature invades inner blocks spaces, courtyards and streets turning them into gardens and urban jungle.

CANAL STREET

We backed the idea of utopia and dreaming with a particular infrastructure layout: 1. Hyperloop for kayaks — for high-speed transportation 2. Suspended pedestrian bridges — for moving around the city. 3. Small neighbourhood roof bridges. By adapting natural to artificial, we propose a scenario of sustainable harmony.

My contribution: elaborating infrastructure design and showing it on the sections.
