Presidents Day

Out of the 45 presidents, 29 have served in the U.S. military, with six having served in the U.S. Navy. (from top left to bottom right) John F. Kennedy, Lydon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald R. Carter, Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush.

E

very year on the third Monday of February we celebrate Presidents Day. This year it fell on Monday, February 18, 2019. This day became a holiday in 1800 following the death of America’s first president George Washington in 1799. It was not until late 1879 that it became a federal holiday.

FUN FACT: Presidents Day never falls on the actual birthday of any American president. George Washington, William Henry Harrison, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan have February birthdays, but their birthdays either come too early or too late to coincide with Presidents Day.
