All You Need Is Love As February 2015 rolls into view, I am reminded of the Beatles’ famous song, “All You Need Is Love.” Certainly this month instantly brings to mind Valentine’s Day and the loving sentiments we enjoy sharing with those we care so much about.

According to the National Retail Federation, last year Americans spent over $17 billion to express their love on Valentine’s Day (www. huffingtonpost.com, 02/05.2014). And while I strongly encourage celebrating this special day with heartfelt gifts and expressions of love (who doesn’t enjoy receiving a token of love on Valentine’s Day?), I wonder if we could change our lives – and the lives of those we love – if we put more effort into demonstrating our love on an ongoing basis?

Bake some cookies for the kids “just because.”

Surprise your spouse or partner with a single gorgeous rose that reminds this person in your life how important he or she is to you. Make a lunch date – right now – with a friend you enjoy and have not seen for some time. Say “I love you” often and with meaning and say “I’m sorry” whenever you need to say it.

Find ways to express your love and gratitude frequently … it doesn’t need to cost anything but it can be one of the most rewarding returns on investment you will ever receive. Life goes by quickly. And I think sometimes we all err by not taking just a little time out of our busy lives every day to tell our loved ones how much they mean to us.

So, go ahead … make every day Valentine’s Day My challenge to all of you is to put a little in your heart and prove the Beatles correct: Valentine’s Day into your life every day, starting All you do need is love. right now.
