“Joy is not in things … it is in us.” –Richard Wagner It is December, and that means our thoughts turn to a flurry of holiday-related events, family gatherings, giving and receiving gifts, and feelings aglow with joy and goodwill toward others. And while this season is an especially delightful one for most of us, I know how easy it is to lose this joyous feeling once the hubbub of the holidays dissipate and the old year begins its inevitable march toward the New Year.

My challenge to you? Keep that joyous glow long after the holidays and 2014 are in the past. One way you can do this is to remember Wagner’s quote above. I do believe we create our own happiness—or sorrow—and it is up to us to find the things in life that do indeed bring us joy and then truly appreciate them. Whether it is a hug from your child, a warm burst of sunshine on a cold day or the sight of a puppy frolicking in the snow, I encourage you to find joy in each day and treasure it.
