This book features selections of imagery by the conceptual artist Jason Miller.
Jason Miller creates and assembles complex photographic arrangements using still-life and environmental portraits cast from an array of trained and untrained character actors. Before a photo session, Miller outlines his psychological objectives and feeds internal dialogue to his photographic subjects. At times he leaves the character role open-ended, while at other times he implies meticulous control over the direction for a scene to go and the mental place where the actor needs to be in connection to outward facial expressions and body gesture. Lighting is key to Miller’s setups both in and out of the studio, and often naturally lit outdoor landscapes are combined with carefully placed studio created imagery. Miller photographs all of his content and uses his imagination to arrange images.
