WELCOME THANKS FOR JOINING US FOR SOUL SURVIVOR 2018 – IT’S WONDERFUL TO BE HERE IN STAFFORD WITH YOU! We love hanging out with you and can’t wait to see what God wants to do over these five days together. If this is your first time at Soul Survivor then a particularly warm welcome to you – we hope you feel at home really quickly. We’ve got loads lined up for this week with seminars covering key areas such as hearing God’s voice, growing in leadership, dealing with fear, women in leadership, how God can use us even when we’ve messed up, friendship and dealing with conflict; social media, telling our friends about Jesus and loads more. Check out the day planner so you don’t miss a thing! Plus there are great venues including the brand new Shuffle & Shake where you can enjoy board games and milkshakes; places you can listen to live music, a ToolShed packed with great resources, an opportunity to show us your talents on the Bandstand, sports, films and more. The Basement is back and will be home to our UV party, silent disco and will have Guvna B performing. Each evening there will be Late Night Worship and on night 4 we’ll have a giant bonfire after the main meeting with live music so we can all hang out together! We like to pack lots of fun stuff into the programme but the thing we’re most excited about is seeing what God wants to do. He never ceases to amaze us with the ways he meets us in his love, kindness, grace and mercy. We want to make loads of space in our main meetings to encounter him in intimate ways through worship, to hear what he wants to say to us through his word, and to invite the Holy Spirit to meet with us in whatever way he chooses. That’s why we’re here so let’s make the most of the time we have together this week to seek him and to enjoy hanging out with one another. Our prayer is that you leave here knowing God better, knowing more of his love for you, and more aware of his presence in your life as you go home and continue to follow him. With love, Mike

SOUL SURVIVOR BEGAN WITH ONE EVENT FOR 1896 PEOPLE IN SOMERSET IN THE SUMMER OF 1993. MIKE PILAVACHI WAS THE YOUTH WORKER AT ST ANDREW’S CHURCH IN CHORLEYWOOD, HERTFORDSHIRE AT THE TIME AND HE’D HAD THE VISION TO START SOMETHING SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. It turned out that lots of people liked the idea and so the events grew and grew until now there are four of them taking place in Scotland, Stafford and Peterborough each summer. We also run a six-day event for the whole church called Naturally Supernatural which is all about living a Spirit-led life, and other events during the

year. You can find out what’s coming up this year on page 67. Got more questions about Soul Survivor? Pop to our stand in the ToolShed and ask away!

PRAYER MINISTRY

WORSHIP Worshipping God is at the very heart of what it means to be a Christian so it’s at the very heart of all we do here at Soul Survivor. Jesus said that the most important thing we can do is to love God with all our heart, soul and mind. There are many ways to express that love, but when we gather together one of the key ways is to sing songs of praise. This is an amazing opportunity to be intimate with our Creator, to tell him we love him, and to know more of his love for us.

MAIN MEETINGS

If you’ve not been around prayer times like this before, there’s nothing to worry about! We’re not going to hype anything up or start acting weird and Mike and Ali will keep chatting through what’s happening.

RELEVANT TEACHING The Bible is absolutely packed with amazing truth about who God is, how much he loves us and how we should follow him. Getting to know the Bible is the best way to get to know who God is, how he feels about us and how he wants us to live our lives.

Day 1: 7pm Days 2-4: 11am and 7pm Day 5: 10am (for communion) and 7pm

We know that it can sometimes be hard to know where to start with such a big book and difficult to understand how to apply what was said thousands of years ago to our lives today. So in each of our main meetings one of our speakers will be helping us take a look at God’s word and what God is saying through it. If you’ve not heard a Soul Survivor talk before you’ll soon see that we’re pretty informal and like to have a laugh as well as be challenged by what we’re hearing. We don’t take ourselves very seriously but we do take God seriously!

OUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE WEEK IS WHEN WE ALL GATHER TOGETHER MORNING AND EVENING TO WORSHIP GOD THROUGH SONG, HEAR TEACHING FROM THE BIBLE AND TO PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER. We want to leave these times open to what God wants to do and to follow his lead. That means although we’re likely to have a time of worship, followed by a talk, followed by prayer ministry, that’s all flexible. Whatever happens, Mike and Ali will talk you through what’s going on!

MAIN MEETINGS PAGE 7

We want to live in God’s power rather than our own strength so we make plenty of space to ask him to fill us with his Holy Spirit in our meetings. Anyone who is a Christian has the Holy Spirit living in them but this is a time of asking for an increased sense of his presence to equip, empower, heal, challenge and change us; to give us his gifts and give us a greater understanding of who he is.

COMMUNION DAY 5: 10am On our last morning together we take some time out to celebrate all that God has done during the week and to remember what Jesus sacrificed for us on the cross by taking communion together. Directions will be given during the meeting as to when to go to take the bread and wine, plus gluten-free bread and non-alcoholic wine will be available for those who prefer. If your tradition is to take Catholic Mass this will be available in Shuffle & Shake, with instructions given during the main meeting as to when to head there.

The ToolShed is home to the Soul Survivor Stand where you’ll find loads of great books and CDs plus our brand new t-shirts, hoodies and goodies – we hope you like them! Please keep in mind that the ToolShed should be a relaxed place for you to browse and enjoy please don’t feel pressured to spend any money. If any of the exhibitors get a bit over-zealous and make you feel uncomfortable, just pop into Info and let us know. Day 4

Guaranteed to make you smile, and perhaps just a chance it might make you sniffle, Paddington 2 is a practically perfect film. When our favourite bear sets his sights on a gift for his beloved Aunt Lucy in Peru nothing can stop him. Except perhaps Hugh Grant and a little stint in jail.

Diana’s upbringing as a warrior princess on an idyllic island is interrupted when an American pilot crash lands and tells her the future of the world is under threat. Leaving her home and encountering the outside world for the first time, Diana must discover her full power and fight with all she has if she’s to win the war to end all wars.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (SINGALONG)

Day 2 When T’Challa returns home after the death of his father to take his place as King, he soon finds his new position challenged. Ruling over Wakanda, an African nation that keeps its advanced technology well hidden, is not going to be easy. An old enemy is on the prowl and the hero Black Panther must arise, teaming up with a CIA agent and using all the strength at his disposal to save not only his beloved nation but the entire world.

Luke Skywalker becomes an unwilling teacher to hero Rey as she learns the ways of the force, while the last of the Resistance, led by Leia, face an all-out assault from Kylo Ren and General Hux. Prepare for the shocking revelations, epic battles, and witty quips that are just some of the reasons we love Star Wars so very much.

IN AN EMERGENCY Please DON’T call emergency services yourself as this can delay help getting to the right place. Instead give Comms a ring on 0300 302 0330 and they will swing into action on your behalf. (Alternatively you can pop in to Info if you’re nearby or ask any member of team that has a radio to contact Comms for you.)

STEWARDS We love our stewards! They do an amazing job in keeping us all safe here at Soul Survivor so please do follow their instructions and don’t forget to flash them your wristband as you enter venues.

PHONE CHARGING Battery running low? We’ve got some handy USB charging points in our cafes so you can recharge while enjoying a hot chocolate mountain. Charging is free but please don’t leave your phone unattended in case someone else takes a shine to it.

WRISTBANDS

VILLAGE HOSTS Your village hosts are here to make you feel at home and should be your first port of call if you have any questions about Soul Survivor, if you need to borrow a mallet to sort out your tent pegs, or if you fancy a hot chocolate and a chat.

Your wristband is your ticket into all the venues on site! Keep it safely around your wrist at all times (it’s designed to withstand most things including going in the shower with you!) and show it to the stewards at the door of each venue so they know you’re legit. If you do manage to break your wristband please pop along to Info with the pieces and we’ll print you a new one for £1. If you lose it altogether that would be a very sad day as you’ll need to pay £40 for a replacement. It’s very important that everyone wears the correct wristband so they can be identified in case of an emergency so please don’t swap wristbands with anyone else. If for any reason you have the wrong one, please pop to Info and we’ll sort that out for you.

COMPOSTABLE CUPS

Single-use plastic bottles are causing a huge environmental problem and whilst we really want to encourage you to stay hydrated we’d love for you to use a reusable bottle. If you brought one with you then you head straight to the top of the class! You can refill it at any of our cafes plus there are taps on all the villages. If you don’t have one, now could be a great time to invest by heading to our stand. Limiting plastic bottle waste will make us (and David Attenborough) very happy. Thanks!

To keep all our consciences clear, we’ve made sure all the coffee cups, straws, paper bags and plates used in our cafes are 100% compostable. They can be placed in normal bins and don’t even need to go in the recycling. Amazing.

REUSEABLE COFFEE CUPS You can purchase reusable coffee cups in our cafes or you’re very welcome to bring your own and we’ll refill that for you.

NOT WASTING WATER Please remember to turn off taps when you’re done and try to be quick in the shower. Make sure you get properly clean though obviously…

PLAYING FAIR Rest assured that all the tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juice and sugar served in our cafes is Fairtrade because we want to make sure all the growers involved earn a living wage. We sell the most ethical water available and the milk used in our cafes is sourced locally. All our clothing is Fair Wear certified and we have Fairtrade chocolate in our cafes too.

When you get home don’t forget to keep an eye on the ethics of your favourite companies and see if they’re living up to the green standard we should be asking them to!

ONE OF THE THINGS WE’RE REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT AT SOUL SURVIVOR IS MEETING WITH GOD. DURING THE MAIN MEETINGS WE WILL ALWAYS TRY TO LET GOD LEAD WHAT’S GOING ON AND MAKE SPACE FOR HIM TO MEET WITH US.

PRAYER MINISTRY GUIDELINES

A GUIDE TO PRAYING FOR OTHERS…

As part of this Mike and Ali will make space for us to wait on the Holy Spirit and pray for groups of people they believe God particularly wants to meet with. This is a great opportunity for God to work in our lives and it’s brilliant to be as open to him as possible. Don’t worry if you’ve never been prayed for in this way, or if you’re not sure how to pray for others; Mike and Ali will talk you through what’s going on and some basics for praying. We also have an experienced enabling team who will be around to help you and answer your questions.

WHAT HAPPENS? Ministry times usually begin with an invitation from someone on the stage for people to wait on and respond to the Holy Spirit. The most important thing to remember is that this is God’s work, not ours. Try to stay open to what God might want to do in your life and invite him to speak to you. Everyone responds differently to meeting with God so try not to focus too much on your reaction or the reactions of those around you. We can experience God in all sorts of ways and physical manifestations aren’t the important thing. If you’d like to receive from God just stay focused on him. If you’d like to pray for other people, have a read on for some helpful tips.

PRAYER MINISTRY GUIDELINES PAGE 53

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

When you’re praying remember that you are there to encourage those seeking God and to bless what the Holy Spirit is doing. There is no ‘right way’ to pray for each other but we’ve included these guidelines as they are tried and tested and tend to work quite well! While you’re with us please stick to the advice given. Lots of it is just straight-forward common sense! In general feel free to pray for anyone regardless of gender but please be aware that at times, when ministry is of a sensitive nature, we will ask that girls pray for girls and guys pray for guys. Don’t be afraid to ask someone what they would like you to pray for and what God is doing even if the Holy Spirit is moving powerfully on them (in Luke 18:40 Jesus asks the blind man ‘What do you want me to do for you?’). However, be aware of not turning this into a long conversation; you don’t need to offer advice and counselling but allow space for the Holy Spirit to do what he would like to do. If appropriate you can speak into the situation or condition in

PRAYER MINISTRY GUIDELINES PAGE 54

Encourage the person to receive from God and be still, rather than praying for themselves. Some people may show this attitude by opening their hands in front of them. The laying on of hands to pray is Biblical. We see Jesus touch a man to heal him of leprosy in Mark 1: 40-45 and he lays hands on the children to bless them in Matthew 19:13-15. That said, not everyone is comfortable with this so please be sensitive. Please also use common sense about where you place your hands so it doesn’t become distracting for the person you are praying for.

PRAYING FOR PHYSICAL HEALING

Keep your eyes open when you pray for someone. This means you are more aware of what God is doing and how the person is responding. It also means you can grab them some tissues if they start crying or be prepared if they look like they may fall over in the power of the Spirit. If someone does fall over in the power of the Holy Spirit then please make sure they are in a comfortable position, not draped over anyone else and that their dignity is maintained (i.e. nothing is on show that shouldn’t be). If you can, put a jumper or jacket under the person’s head. It is not always necessary to stay with them for the whole time but if you move away encourage them to keep receiving from God and keep an eye on them to check they are safe. It can be helpful to quietly let them know that you will return in a little while so they know that they are not forgotten. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and encouragement, and be prepared to wait; this is God’s work, not yours. The person you are praying for may tell you about things that have happened in their life but don’t appear to be shocked by any disclosures. Remember that confidentiality is of the utmost importance but DO NOT promise to keep anything secret, especially with regards to claims of abuse. Your first point of contact in such a situation should be a member of the enabling team. They are there to support you and the person you are praying with and will be able to take things further if necessary.

Jesus’ name, but be sensitive and recognise that you may be wrong. If you have a prophetic word or picture, offer these as a prayer or in such a way that the person being prayed for can make their own decision as to how appropriate they are. Never insist that what you have to say is a word from God and always seek to strengthen, encourage and comfort the person you’re praying for (1 Corinthians 14:3).

It’s very important to allow the expression of feelings and this might mean people cry, shake or respond in other ways to what God is doing. This is totally fine but be careful not to suppress or to build up the situation. Alternatively some people might not seem to respond physically at all. That’s fine too. We want God to do what he wants to do, we don’t want to get in the way of that and we want to make sure people leave a time of ministry feeling loved and valued. It’s brilliant to have more than one person praying for someone at a time so feel free to go over and join someone who’s praying already. That said, it can be distracting if a large group gather around someone when the ministry is of a sensitive nature so please ensure people have enough personal space. If at any time you feel out of your depth then please ask for help from the enabling team. We all find ourselves in situations that we can’t handle alone. This is not failure and it’s often good to pray with others, plus it’s a great way to learn more!

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

When Jesus healed people in the Bible he spoke to the sickness and ailments and commanded them to be healed. Jesus gives us the power and authority to do the same in his name. So, for example, if you are praying for a sight problem, speak to the eye and tell it to ‘Be open and see in Jesus’ name’. If you’re praying for an ear, speak to the ear and tell it to be open and hear in the name of Jesus. When praying for injuries that cause pain or immobility ask the person what level of pain they have on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest pain possible). Speak to the condition in the name of Jesus and command it to be healed. Speak to the pain and tell it very firmly to ‘Stop it,’ in Jesus’ name (but remember you don’t need to shout!). If appropriate speak to the mobility of the joint or limb and tell it to be healed in Jesus’ name. After this short prayer ask the person to test for pain and mobility in the injured area. Ask for the number out of 10 of the level of pain and mobility to see if it has gone down. Repeat the prayer, if necessary, as many times as you are both comfortable with.

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

AND FINALLY Not everyone is familiar with ministry and prayer times and some people feel a bit concerned or nervous when they become aware of God working through his Holy Spirit. We need to help people who are receiving feel comfortable and safe, and to encourage them to reach out to God. Always be sensitive and respectful, keeping in mind how you would like to be prayed for, and constantly asking for God’s help. Reassure those being prayed for that God has heard sincere prayers and the cries of our hearts and encourage them to expect answers. Speak healing, peace and release in the name of Jesus and remember the place of repentance, forgiveness and being forgiven. If someone would like extra prayer you can refer them to a member of the enabling team or to the Chat Room which is open every afternoon and evening. Encourage the person to receive as much prayer as they like during the event but also to seek ongoing ministry support from their home church. Don’t make any appointments to pray with people you don’t know outside of the meeting. All these are tips to help you let God work through you. Remember: don’t worry! The enabling team and the person leading the meeting will be giving directions and advice to everyone. The important thing is that you are ready and willing to pray for those around you.

EVER WONDERED WHY WE DO THE THINGS WE DO? HERE ARE SOME ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS WE MOST COMMONLY GET ASKED. IF THERE’S SOMETHING YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW THAT WE HAVEN’T ANSWERED, DROP US AN EMAIL AT INFO@SOULSURVIVOR.COM. WHY DO PEOPLE CLOSE THEIR EYES AND PUT THEIR HANDS UP IN WORSHIP? Many people close their eyes as it helps keep them from being distracted while they worship. Some raise their hands as a sign of praise (in Psalm 63 the psalmist says, ‘I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands’) and hold out their hands as a way of showing they are surrendering to God and want to receive from him. There is no right or wrong way to worship God and it doesn’t matter so much what we’re doing with our bodies, it’s more about what’s going on in our hearts. You may want to shout, dance and jump about, or you may want to be quiet and still. As long as you’re focussed on Jesus (and you’re not trampling on anyone else!) then that’s what counts.

SOUL SURVIVOR Q&A SOUL SURVIVOR Q&A PAGE 57

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

WHY DO PEOPLE DO STRANGE THINGS WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT MOVES? When God’s Spirit rests on people during ministry times they may laugh, cry, move around or just be still. All of this is totally fine. Ministry times are about giving God space to meet with us however he wants and so the best thing we can do is be as open as possible to him and not worry about what anyone else is doing.

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

We don’t want to hype anything up or stop people from expressing themselves and so we try not to focus on people’s outward manifestations and focus instead on what God is doing in our hearts, minds and bodies. Mike will chat through what’s going on and if you have any questions about ministry times please do chat to someone on the enabling team, to your youth worker or to a member of the Chat Room team.

of bands contacting us for just a few slots. If you are part of a band that already has a good following please do send us a sample of your music but because of the volume of requests we receive we’re sorry that we can’t reply to everyone personally.

CAN I GET THE LYRICS/CHORD CHARTS TO THE SONGS WE’VE BEEN SINGING? Lots of these are available online for free, and some are in song books that you can buy. For any new songs written by our team we’ll post chord charts and lyrics as soon as we can after our summer events.

At our summer events we only have speakers and band members who we know and are in relationship with just so we can ensure their integrity and love for Jesus.

WHY AREN’T THERE MORE SHOWERS?

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GET HOME? HOW DO I SUSTAIN THIS HIGH?

One of Mike’s quirks is that he likes to tease his friends and that means he often makes cheeky remarks about them on stage. Please don’t be offended! Mike’s being affectionate rather than mean; we promise you he only ever teases someone who knows that he loves them.

We hire loads more showers than the number recommended for an event of this size in order to reduce your waiting time. Queues of course tend to be longer in the morning so you might want to shower in the afternoon/at night to save some time.

We hope you’ve had a brilliant time and are leaving Soul Survivor on a high, having met with God and had a great time with your mates. But we know that going home can present some challenges… As Christians we’re not immune to life’s ups and downs but through them all we want to keep deepening our relationship with God. Here are our top tips to help you grow in your faith:

We have a big team of cleaners who try and keep the showers and toilets clean for you but if you spot any problems just pop into Info and let us know.

This is one of the best ways to stay connected to God and to allow him to keep speaking to you throughout the year. If you want to do the Bible in One Year with us we’ll be kicking off again on September 1st and we’ll share a daily reading and video at bible.soulsurvivor.com.

WHY DO YOU CLOSE ALL THE OTHER VENUES WHEN THE MAIN MEETINGS ARE ON? The main meetings are the highlight of our time together so we close everything else so we can all come together to worship God, hear from his word and pray for one another. We also have lots of volunteers working in these venues so closing them twice a day gives them an opportunity to take some time off and come and meet with Jesus.

CAN I WORK FOR SOUL SURVIVOR? We’re a pretty small team, based in Watford, but we do occasionally have vacancies that we advertise on our website and on social media. Keep your eyes peeled! Every summer we need thousands of volunteers to make our events happen so if you’d like a peek behind the scenes, apply to be on team and get involved! All the info is on our website.

SOUL SURVIVOR Q&A PAGE 59

WHY DOES SOUL SURVIVOR FUNDRAISE WHEN WE HAVE TO PAY TO BE HERE?

WHY DO WE HAVE TO SIT ON THE FLOOR? Whilst we’d love to all sit in luxurious seats, it would mean we could only get a fraction of the number of people in the main meetings. You’re welcome to bring a back support in with you but unfortunately, for health and safety reasons, we can’t allow pillows, fold up chairs or big cushions into the meetings. If you really need a chair there are a small number made available; chat to a steward if you can’t spot them.

We try and keep the costs down for you so Soul Survivor remains accessible to as many people as possible but that means the fees you pay don’t cover everything it costs us to make the events run. We couldn’t do what we do without the amazing people who support us financially – if you’d like to be one of them, find out more on page 61 or head to the ‘give’ section of our website.

WHY IS SOUL SURVIVOR FINISHING AFTER THE SUMMER OF 2019? We believe it’s time for us to step aside and allow new ministries to rise up. Head to our website to see a full statement and Q&A, plus a video message from Mike.

WHY IS MIKE SO MEAN TO PEOPLE ON STAGE?

SOUL SURVIVOR SUNDAY! KEEP STEPPING OUT If you’ve started speaking in tongues, keep praying that way to God every day. If you’re longing to hear God’s voice, keep listening and humbly offering words to other people. Want to see people healed? Keep praying for them! The more we step out, the more we’ll see God do so keep going for it! You might want to try using the Everyday Supernatural Small Group Guide with your youth group to keep encouraging one another in your journey.

In recent years Soul Action has been focused on two areas: freedom from slavery for those who have been trafficked and held captive; and opening up the future for those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to a quality education.

ARTICLES

In 2005 we set up Soul Action so that the freedom that we experience at Soul Survivor events would continue beyond the showgrounds to some of the world’s poorest communities. All the people of the world are made in God’s image and our Father has good plans for all of us. However, Jesus taught us that there is an enemy who hates humans and who acts like a thief, trying to steal, kill and destroy people made in God’s image (John 10:10). In the same verse Jesus promised that he had come to bring fullness of life to God’s children.

YOU CAN JOIN THE FIGHT TO END SLAVERY! We can all help build a bridge to freedom for those held captive. Money helps, but if we are going to have investigators and lawyers and social workers knocking on the doors of brothels, sweatshops and fishing boats then we need to be knocking on the door of heaven too. Last year IJM and Soul Survivor launched Prayer for Justice to build a huge move of prayer to see the end of slavery. You can join the frontline of the fight to end slavery by signing up to pray at www.Pray4Justice.net

WE DELIGHT IN BEING SET FREE FROM THE THINGS THAT HOLD US BACK AND ASKING GOD TO LEAD US INTO FURTHER FREEDOM AS WE DISCOVER HIS CALLING AND EMPOWERMENT IN OUR LIVES. WE KNOW THAT WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS FREEDOM!

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

Sadly slavery isn’t a thing of the past. Today there are at least 40 million slaves in the world and while we are here at Soul Survivor another 1,400 children will have been sold. That’s two children every minute of every day. They are sold to work in sweatshops, brothels and fishing boats. We believe those children belong in families, playgrounds and schools instead. In short, they should be living in freedom. Working with International Justice Mission (IJM) we support the rescue of those in captivity, the rebuilding of their lives and the prosecution of the slave owners.

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

We take education for granted but across the world some of the poorest children are denied the opportunities that education brings, often because they are the wrong gender, caste or ethnic group; or simply because they are poor and they cannot afford an education or be spared from the family’s work. Since we began, Soul Action has supported projects to bring quality education to poor communities, particularly in South Africa. We have worked with Soul Action South Africa and a network of local partners who provide teacher training and support in informal settlements and townships. Right now we are working to develop a truly multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-social school that can provide quality education for children who would otherwise be denied the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

YOU CAN BUILD A BRIDGE TO FREEDOM BY PRAYING AND GIVING THROUGH OUR OFFERING (SEE PAGE 51) TO SUPPORT EDUCATION IN SOUTH AFRICA SO WE CAN HELP A NEW GENERATION FIND FREEDOM.

WHAT WILL I DO? You will develop your leadership skills at the heart of Soul Survivor Watford, getting involved in all aspects of church life, plus various conferences and events. Each week you will have two days of teaching with highly respected speakers plus practical training as part of either the worship or leadership stream. We want to prepare you to lead for the rest of your life and we believe the best way to do this is by trusting you with real situations and responsibilities.

WHEN DOES IT START? Courses run from the end of October to the end of August and you can apply now for both 2018/2019 and 2019/2020. The closing date for applications for this year’s course is 14th September.

WHAT IS SOUL61?

SOUL61 SOUL61 PAGE 65

SOUL SURVIVOR WEEK A 2018 EVENT PROGRAMME

Soul61 is an opportunity to set the foundation for a lifetime of leadership. We want to give you space to encounter God, worship him, wait on him and allow him to mould you into the person he wants you to be. Throw yourself in and you will be challenged and stretched in your character and gifts as you learn, grow and develop your skills.

WHO IS IT FOR? Soul61 is for anyone aged 18-24 who feels the call of God on their life to serve his people. We’re not looking for individuals who feel they have it all together; we’re after those who have a deep and genuine desire to develop their character, and have an openness to be used by God wherever he chooses.

9. Roller blading, skateboarding and cycling can only take place after dark if there is appropriate lighting i.e. if you have a light on your bike or you’re in a well-lit area (and no, the light from your smartphone doesn’t count!) 10. Tents and caravans can only be moved to a different village with permission from the Info team. This is so you can be contacted in the case of an emergency. 11. No speeding. When you arrive and leave the site please keep to the 10mph limit. We know it’s incredibly painful but it’s important to keep everyone safe. Think of it as a Godgiven opportunity to practice your patience. No driving lessons are allowed either. 12. No flyposting or damaging the site – please respect the property of the showground. 13. The only pets allowed at Soul Survivor are registered assistance dogs. If you have a registered assistance dog please introduce them to us in Info on arrival. 14. Generators cannot be used on site. Electrical hook ups can only be provided where these have been arranged before arrival. 15. We don’t condone anyone forcing their views on others (including sectarian propaganda or proselytising), so if you see anyone doing this please let us know immediately in Info. 16. Promotion of organisations or activities that do not form part of the Soul Survivor event programme, including the distribution of literature, is only permitted by authorised exhibitors within the ToolShed.

17. We don’t operate holiday insurance or cancellation schemes so we strongly recommend you consult with an insurance broker if you need cover. We can’t be held responsible for loss or damage to people or personal property so please take care of yourself and your belongings. 18. Please be respectful of your surroundings and don’t go where you shouldn’t. That means no going into the woods or any section of the site that has been cordoned off with tape. 19. No flossing before 10.30am without the written approval of three youth leaders. 20. Please respect other people’s privacy and don’t take any photos or videos during ministry times. 21. Open fires, fireworks and Chinese lanterns are not allowed. Sad, we know, as they are very pretty. 22. We know fluorescent jackets are pretty special but please don’t wear one unless you are a team member who is on duty. 23. Everyone needs to be back at their village by midnight and the campsite must be quiet by 1am so we don’t upset the neighbours. The curfew village should be quiet by 10pm to let everyone get a good night’s sleep. 24. Drones are not to be used on site, except by the official Soul Survivor media team. 25. The car park is on the other side of a very busy road to the showground so please use the underpass when you cross to avoid any accidents. Access to the underpass is via a ramp, but please don’t use your bike or skateboard there.
