A ghost metro train, which has already been all around Europe, appears in Berlin. It ignores physics, gaps between buildings, space and time. Based on a light phenomenon, “the light hole”, the ghost metro train turns into a travelling myth, which is constituted of the loose artifacts, collected on the way. The train becomes an artifact itself, as it could appear at any public space―unpredictably, unable to be tracked by route or starting point. HR-Stamenov suggests a light spectacle, as a train literally “appears” inside a building, leaving passers-by unknowing of what they have just seen. The immediate attention, which the installation produces, serves as an illustration of a rather nostalgic gesture, the fascination of observing a train passing by at times when this occurrence is a rare sight. Similarly, it illustrates a spectacle in public space, as it transforms a threedimensional object―such as a train―into a screen-based visual phenomenon. It is the size, the image and the sound of a real train; it becomes a screen, a motion picture, a blinking advertising sign. Located in the center of Berlin―at LEAP on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße near Alexanderplatz―the Ghost Train is also in constant reference to its original symbolic context. Every couple of minutes a train passes through or stops at the

E central city station (Alexanderplatz) which the glass-façade of the installation points at. A whole cycle of works is dedicated to teleportation – an old and yet unfulfilled dream of generations of scientists, writers and sci-fi characters. The artist uses the word “teleportation” to explain the mysterious disappearance of a train in Bulgaria into a light hole (W24° 58’59,43” N42° 07’55,29”) some years ago. The unexplored qualities of this phenomenon make it a multi-exit space-time portal, which is why the train appears at different places and in different times. Not without irony towards people, who assume to have been heavily brainwashed by the speculative mass media, HR-Stamenov is in fact “staging the conditions of possibility” for the phenomenon of this train’s appearance to be observed. He is choosing a moment and a situation to invite the audience as eyewitness to this seemingly unexplainable occurrence at non traditional locations in Florence, Milan, Paris, Zagreb and Munich (unlike going to an art exhibition with its predefined rituals). A Black Hole is a region of space-time where gravity prevents anything, including light, from escaping. The theory of general relativity predicts that a sufficiently compact mass will deform space-time to form a black hole. Around a black hole there is a mathematically defined surface called an event horizon that marks the point of no return. It is called “black because it absorbs all the light that hits the horizon, reflecting nothing, just like a perfect black body in the thermodynamics. Quantum mechanics predicts that black holes emit

radiation like a black body with a finite temperature. This temperature is inversely proportional to the mass of the black hole, making it difficult to observe this radiation for black holes of stellar mass or greater. (Wikipedia.org)

E The Light Hole phenomenon could appear suddenly on ground level or in the Earths atmosphere. Light Holes can be seen at every part of the day, the observation of which requires no special equipment. The main quality of light holes is that they can “swallow” objects from reality by opening a space-time tunnel. The object captured by a light hole can disappear from its current location “A” and then reappear at a unknown and unpredicted location “B”. During this
transition the object falls into the quantum multiverse. Subsequently, obtaining the quality for space-time autonomy, the object enters a temporary status of its existence, which allows an uncontrolled motion continuum of its appearances.

E On 29 Sept. 1999 between 16.08’56”and16.09’13” at coordinates W24°58’59,43” and N42°07’55,29”, entering a strange tunnel caused by a light hole, regional train BDZ number PV16199 disappeared with 15 passengers, an engine driver, two ticket inspectors and a policeman on board. Experts from the research institute IM.F.R. believe that from the moment of disappearance the train might have had the capability of unexpectedly reappearing in certain places, risking causing catastrophes and destruction. As the train would need neither rails nor electricity in order to move, it becomes completely self-sufficient.
