New Martin ERA 300 Profile on tour with Newton Faulkner

Martin Dudley of Martin’s Lights Ltd has invested in the new Martin by HARMAN ERA 300 Profile, with six units immediately in action on the Newton Faulkner tour. Supplying lighting design and lighting equipment hire services, Martin’s Lights Ltd recently celebrated its 25th birthday. Current and past clients of owner Martin Dudley include Newton Faulkner with whom he has been working with for 13 years, James Morrison (as lighting director for lighting designer Cate Carter), Heaven 17, Gilbert O’Sullivan, Magazine, The Specials and many more. Having owned Martin fixtures a very long way back in the “DJ Series” days of Magic Moons, Starflashes and Jem smoke machines, and of course experience of the countless Martin fixtures in the lighting rigs of venues and festivals, the brand new ERA 300 Profile modern day LED successor to the MAC 250 recently caught his attention. Martin Dudley explains, “I had been looking specifically for a colour-mixing moving spot fixture for a little

while that would suit the scale and level of touring that we regularly do, so I was immediately interested when I saw the ERA 300 announced. The other features - two gobo wheels, colour wheel, zoom, iris and prism, also caught my eye.” The ERA 300 Profile is a compact LED moving head, designed to be easy to handle and rig, and take up less truck space. It includes professional features, including CMY colour mixing, 1:2 zoom and 9,500 lumens of output. Since this is Newton Faulkner’s “Very Best Of...” tour, Martin Dudley has been revisiting some of their favourite lighting looks from Newton’s shows over the last 13 years. The six ERAs are floor/box-mounted in a row upstage, where previously larger fixtures would have been used, and the output of the extremely compact ERA 300 Profile is clearly impressing.

We’re only three shows into the tour so far, but on yesterday’s show at the London Palladium, which has a large lighting system of Martin Aura XBs and Quantum Profiles amongst other fixtures, the ERAs performed very well in terms of comparative brightness. The gobos in the ERAs also nicely matched those in the Quantums!”

In fact Martin Dudley concludes, “I suspect I’ll be using them on pretty much every tour where I need a small moving spot from now on, I can’t see that I’m going to be touring any venues where they won’t be powerful enough to do the job.” soundte.ch/faulkner-era300

“The ERAs have allowed us to have the light output of some of the bigger fixtures we’ve used in the past, but taking up very little space in a tour bus trailer.

Martin MAC Encores make their mark on tour with Matilda The Musical

Hawthorn supplies Hugh Vanstone and Chris Hirst with “bright, virtually maintenance free” Martin LED inventory

Associate lighting designer Chris Hirst has been working alongside original LD Hugh Vanstone, and with the latter’s consent, has developed a more LED-centric inventory, scaling down the number of fixtures and making it easier for him, and production technician Fraser Hall to tour with.

“After they proved a successful LED replacement to the Viper we were sufficiently confident to replace our arc lamps with Encores, and this included adding the MAC Encore Wash to the show for the first time. Both units were a huge success.” Chris Hirst Read full story: soundte.ch/matilda Photo courtesy of GWB Entertainment

Martin MAC Encores strike a chord on Captain Corelli’s Mandolin

White Light supplies MAC Encores and MAC Aura XBs for critically acclaimed UK tour and West End season.

“These [MAC Encore Performance CLDs] gave us maximum punch for cold scenes and images of warfare ... However, their excellent CTO filters also gave us excellent warm looks at slightly lower intensity.” LD Malcom Rippeth

The MAC Encore’s framing shutters provided him with good edge options, and according to the LD one of the key attributes of the fixture were the water effects, derived from a combination of gobo and animation, along with the wide gamut of colours. Martin’s new MAC Allure™ Profile in stock There is nothing quite like the Martin MAC Allure Profile. This is the first fully-featured moving head to combine a proprietary, solid state RGBW additive colour mixing engine, a 7-segment pixelated beam and onboard P3 and DMX controllability that lets users swiftly alternate or mix between control protocols. The overall feature set further includes dimmer, strobe, colour mixing, gobos, iris, prism, zoom, focus, pan and tilt.

Another first, the MAC Allure Profile includes a pixelated beam divided into seven individually-controlled, full colour segments (pixels). This gives lighting designers new options for creativity and frees them to expand in directions they previously may have never considered. The MAC Allure Profile was also designed for extreme user-friendliness with a built-in FX engine for P3 and DMX controllability that lets users swiftly alternate or mix between control protocols.

“Until now, there hasn’t been a truly efficient way to integrate solid state (LED) colour mixing into profile fixtures,” said Markus Kluesener, HARMAN Professional Solutions Stage Lighting Product Manager. “We decided to address this need head on and asked our engineers to come up with a game changer. They came through with an all-new, proprietary, colour-mixing light engine that exceeded our expectations for efficiency.”

MAC Allure adds “magical” effects to National Theatre’s River Stage

“I love the multiple split colours that feature in the beam and give the unit a distinctive look on the stage. When they light the haze above the audience it looks quite magical and alive!” Paul Hornsby, National Theatre

For this year’s season, the River Stage has benefitted from unique dynamic lighting effects thanks to Martin’s new MAC Allure Profile lighting fixtures. MAC Allure Profile is also the first lighting fixture incorporating Martin’s P3 control.

“We have 12 on the River Stage this year. With a good zoom, essential when the rig is at 3 metres, and the unique effects that the Allure has built-in, it gives the stage a look we have not been able to achieve in previous years.“ Huw Llewellyn, LD, River Stage 2019 Read full story: soundte.ch/riverstage Photo: © Stephanie Claire

MAC Allure Wash PC now shipping Shipping now, the Martin MAC Allure Wash PC has expanded the MAC Allure family. The washlight variant of the MAC Allure Profile, features a novel RGBW light engine with unique 7-segmented beam control. With instant colour control and pixelated beam, the MAC Allure Wash PC enables dynamic diffused projection and mid-air effects, previously not possible. Additional features that make the MAC Allure Wash PC ideal for a range of needs are its ability to be broadcast safe with LED drivers that run the light engine at high and precise refresh rates, securing no flicker or banding on any broadcast application. It also features a compact 17.6 kg design that fits nicely into smaller sets and spaces, reducing truss loading constraint concerns.

Similar to the MAC Allure Profile, the MAC Allure Wash PC supports the unique performance lighting needs of rental and install clients, including concert/touring, TV shows, corporate, houses of worship, concert venues, nightclubs, and cruise ships. “When we launched the MAC Allure Profile, our lead-off was always ‘There’s nothing quite like it.’ The MAC Allure Wash PC goes even further to bring previously unavailable features to the market,” said Markus Kluesener, HARMAN Professional Solutions Lighting Product Manager. “Not only is it part of the first product family to combine a proprietary, solid state RGBW additive color mixing engine and 7-segment pixelated beam but it is now the first washlight out there to include integrated onboard P3 control, that works in addition to industry standard controls such as DMX, Art-Net and sACN.”

“Despite its very innovative feature set, enabling many new and creative possibilities, the MAC Allure Wash PC is designed to not overload the user with unnecessary parameters,” said Peter Skytte, HARMAN Professional Solutions Tour Lighting Manager. “It’s a truly unique workhorse that packs

a lot of potential and creative possibilities into an especially compact design.” The MAC Allure Wash PC is shipping now in the UK.
