The South Coast Committee

The AGM is held at the end of the swim season each year. South Coast Swimming Club needs a strong and dedicated committee. The committee needs representation from all sections of the Club to truly reflect the interests of all members. If you want to have your say consider joining the committee. Please feel free to discuss any questions regarding participation with a committee member. Interested parents who are not committee members are always welcome to attend.

Please refer to a Club Committee Member prior to paying Centre Membership as the Club negotiates a discount. Family members may only utilise the Centre’s lanes and/or facilities if the respective cost has been paid at reception.

Squads

The Head Coach determines the progress of swimmers through the squads based on various factors including skill, fitness and competitive level. South Coast has five squads: (Refer to Squad Structure document for more detailed information)

Skills Development Squad: This squad provides a transition from learn to swim lessons to competitive practice. The squad caters for the development of swimmers who are beginning their competitive swimming experiences in an educational environment. Sessions focus on developing skills in all four strokes, turns and starts technique to prepare for competitions and learning squad practice techniques with an introduction to fitness development. New swimmers decide the number of sessions they are comfortable with however a minimum of 3 sessions per week preferably 4 are recommended depending on age and ability. Swimmers are encouraged to increase their sessions as their ability and self confidence improves. Attendance at Club supervised Stretching or Dry land training is encouraged. Competitive Development Squad – Gold & Silver The Competitive Development Squads are for the development of swimmers primarily aged 10 to 13 years who are identified as having potential for competitive swimming and/or qualify for State titles. Swimmers in these Squads have the desire to become more involved in the training and competitive aspects of the sport. Swimmers will develop all aspects of stroke technique, fitness and race skills to prepare for competitions.

A minimum of 4 sessions per week for swimmers aged 12 & Under and 5 sessions per week for swimmers 13 & Over are recommended and encouraged at this level to achieve improvement. Swimmers are encouraged to increase their sessions as their ability and self confidence improves. State/National Potential Squad: This Squad is for dedicated, self disciplined and self motivated competitive swimmers. Swimmers in this squad train morning and evening sessions, attending between 6 to 9 sessions (depending on age and ability) and 2-3 Land Training sessions per week. Fitness Squad: This Squad is for existing or past swimmers of our Club who due to education or work commitments can only attend limited number of sessions per week. If attendance required outside of the Fitness Squad session times this must be arranged with the Head Coach. Dry Land Training Swimmers can attend gym or personal training sessions once approved by the Head Coach. The swimmer or their family is responsible for organising these sessions. Additional costs for gym attendance are the responsibility of the swimmer or their family and are as set by the Noarlunga Leisure Centre.

The Future

South Coast Swimming Club has inclusive policies and the incumbent committee determines the future goals of the club based on the needs of the membership.
