Today, barely 5 percent of hospital leaders are physicians. That percentage is expected to soar in the advent of population health management. According to The Advisory Board Company, 60 percent of hospitals plan to hire more physician leaders over the next five years. “Putting physicians in leadership roles is critical to making the shift toward value,” said John Combes, MD, president and COO of the American Hospital Association’s Center for Healthcare Governance, noting that multiple studies have found the best performing hospitals are physician-led, and overall hospital quality scores can be
Stage 3 Meaningful Use May Be Delayed It’s still too early to say whether Congress will delay Stage 3 – Meaningful Use – for electronic health records, but support for the idea appears to be growing. Ochsner Venture to Create More ER Access By TED GRIGGS
A new partnership between Ochsner Health System and Adeptus Health Inc. plans to establish a number of freestanding emergency departments in Louisiana, beginning with the New Orleans area. “We want to offer a full spectrum of care and see patients when and where they want to be seen,” said Warner Thomas, Ochsner president and chief executive officer. “This partnership is truly an extension of that effort and is expected to ensure that many Louisiana residents will no longer have to drive more than 30 minutes when they need critical, emergency care services.” Ochsner is joining a growing trend of stand-alone emergency rooms.
