Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Heart & Vascular Institute at St. Anthony’s Medical Center gave its patients a gift of a more successful treatment option for atrial fibrillation (AFib) and other arrhythmias. The Topera 3D Mapping System opens up treatment options for patients who previously would have been difficult to treat. “In instances of cardiac arrhythmias, the problem is electrical, not anatomical, and the electrical source can be different in every patient,” said Gregory Botteron, MD, a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist (EP) with St. Anthony’s Heart Specialty Associates, whose first case with the new diagnostic tool was successfully completed on Feb. 13 at the Heart & Vascular Institute. “This system provides the first opportunity to look at each individual patient’s AFib and understand the areas more responsible for keeping the patient in AFib. By better pinpointing these areas, long-term outcomes will substantially improve.” The Topera system consists of the FDA-cleared (CONTINUED ON PAGE 8)
