MONDAY MENTION Bethany Jovan, '17 Bethany Jovan attended Southeastern from 2013 to 2017, graduating with a degree in English & Intercultural Studies with a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL).
Currently, Bethany is furthering her education at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, and will graduate this December with a Master's degree in Mass Communications. She works for USF's Parking and Transportation Services office as their Marketing Specialist. Bethany's longterm goal is to work as a creative freelancer in a similar field.
Bethany has been married to Cyrus Jovan for four years. Cyrus graduated from John Hopkins. Bethany and Cyrus have two kids: Ava is 3 and Ari is 1. The Jovans are members of Journey Church in Tampa and plan on raising their family in Tampa.
Bethany can credit her time at Southeastern University with allowing her to explore a range of career paths, but ultimately assisting her in refining her writing skills and deepening her love for the arts. Although Bethany has decided to not pursue a career in teaching English as a second language, she has still been able to apply my experiences in marketing and communication roles.
Some of Bethany's favorite memories of SEU are the amazing professors she had the opportunity to learn under. "The faculty played a big role in my spiritual and educational formation. Dr. Annette Graves, Dr. Ricky Cotton, and Dr. Jason Old all inspired a love for learning, adventure, and spiritual growth. They all poured into my life in one way or another." Bethany had one spot on campus that was her favorite - "Shout out to Portico Coffee for the amazing Dirty Chai Lattes (a chai tea latte with a shot of espresso), endless study sessions, and hangs in between classes."
Bethany also has fond memories of the mission trip to Ethiopia in 2015 and her internship in Tanzania in 2017. "They were truly life-changing experiences that I think about everyday and would never take back." Portico was her favorite spot on campus. Aside from her job, Bethany volunteers with Journey Church's International Alpha ministry. It's an 8-10 week series of videos and group discussions offering people a safe place to express any of their doubts, questions, or thoughts about faith, God, and Christianity, while introducing them to a Biblical perspective on these topics. Bethany is amazed at the way she got to see God move in people's lives through the ministry. She hopes to host an Alpha group in the future. In the meantime, Bethany sets out to live the Great Commission in her everyday life as a mom, wife, co-worker, and student.
