MONDAY MENTION

Billy Mossberg, '17 Billy Mossberg attended Southeastern from 2014 to December of 2017, graduating with a degree in Practical Ministries. Like many SEU students, Billy was deeply impacted by his time on campus. Before coming to SEU, Billy struggled with an alcohol addiction. His time at Southeastern not only provided him a quality education, but it was his discipleship and Christian nurturing he needed. His first semester was extremely difficult - but one night he felt led to go to the 24 Hour Prayer event on campus in November. It was that night that he gave his life to Christ in Bush Chapel. Billy notes that professors like Dr. Ehler, Dr. Davis, Dr. Crosby, and so many others molded and shaped him, listened to him, and discipled him. He came to SEU as a broken, lost student, yet graduated with a pastoral job, an indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and more knowledge than he ever had before. Billy was chosen as the Barnett College of Ministry and Theology senior preacher for the class of 2017. "I preached in the very chapel that I gave my life to Christ in. Without Southeastern, I could never have been where I am today." Billy has been the youth pastor for Focal Point Church in Orlando, Florida for two and a half years now. Since the COVID-19 virus, Billy has also taken on the role of Online Campus Pastor for the church.

In 2015, Billy met his wife, Savannah, during a group outing to Disney Springs. Savannah was a Vocal Performance major at SEU and graduated in 2019. Their first date was at the Silver Moon Drive-In Theater, and Savannah and Billy later got married in 2018. Savannah is a Character Captain at Disney's Magic Kingdom, which means she is the manager of all the characters in the park. Billy has numerous fond memories of his time at Southeastern. His favorite is when he got saved in Bush Chapel, and many followed this turning point, including meeting his wife, preaching a sermon in Bush Chapel, and meeting lifelong friends. Raymond (Ray) Winterhalt was Billy's RA his freshman year, and Ethan Cadore was the RD. Ray and Ethan were both groomsmen in Billy's wedding, as was Nick Matrone. Ja'Quan Floyd, Andy Ross, and Christian Keller became other close friends, as well. Another of Billy's fond memories was his Homiletics 2 class trip to Miami with Dr. Ehler and Dr. McNaughton. "We went to almost 10 different churches in the Miami area, attended a Miami Heat game, and ate at Texas de Brazil. Not only that, but I met my mentor on that trip, Pastor David Stocker Jr. It was the first time Dr. Ehler brought an entire class of guys on this 3 day trip, and I built a strong bond with other alumni such as Matthew Cummisky, Josh Osborn, Preston Morter, and Zach Hornsby." Billy's story is one of radical transformation and renewed passion for the Kingdom. Thank you Billy for sharing your story and for Carrying the Torch!
