MONDAY MENTION
David Covey, ‘04 David Covey graduated from Southeastern University in 2004 with his BS in Communications. He was a hard worker all along, however, his determination helped him to show up and be ready to impress right after finishing college. Immediately following graduation, David began working in IT and at B.L. Smith Electric, Inc. as a helper in the field. He planned to begin there and strived to progress to eventually become an estimator. Already by 2005, David had moved into the office. Within just one year in this postion, he had earned the title of project manager. He stayed in this career till 2016. David also got his foot in the door by becoming a Certified Electrical Contractor in the State of FL in 2006. His consistant hard work and loyalty earned him the title of Vice President of Operations. God has used his skill set for the best, and in much bigger ways that he never could have imagined when graduating with his Communications degree. David and Logan, the love of his life, were married in 2011. They recently celebrated their 10th anniversary on March 13th with their two children, Zoe and Jase. Zoe is their eight-yearold daughter who loves to dance and play soccer. Their son Jase on the other hand is five years old. His favorite activities consist of baseball
games and playing at home with their two black labs. They share many good memories at home and When asked how Southeastern helped prepare him for his future, David shared his experience working on the yearbook staff and taking lots of computer classes. He felt he benefited most from the hands-on approach to learning along with the access to computers. These elements were foundational to the work David has done. He was able to solidly develop his computer skills and networking environments when he was young and has only built from there. In the mind of David Covey, his favorite Southeastern University memories consist of: “nights filled with pizza, video games, laughter, and of course studying.” He will forever respect his strongest leaders - Dr. Rodney White, Dr. Steve Adkins, Dr. Wade Mumm - and their willingness to serve in higher education. David was also a part of a band named Inkblot that played a few shows at SEU. He enjoyed being pushed by the musical scene around campus.
