MONDAY MENTION

Victoria Thombs, '16 Victoria Thombs graduated Southeastern University in December of 2016 as a triple major, earning degrees in Accounting, Marketing, and Business Management. Immediately after school, she went into Medicare and Medicaid claims analysis for the largest dialysis company in the world. From there, Victoria moved into account management at a specialty pharmacy. Victoria moved to South Dakota about three years ago and works as an accountant for the state. She currently manages all the federal grant revenue for the South Dakota Department of Social Services, to the tune of over a billion dollars in revenue a year. While not at work, Victoria enjoys volunteering with the fire department, crafting keepsakes out of polymer clay, and baking. "I met the love of my life while working in New Orleans postgraduation and we have been together for 3 years. He is the Fire Chief at our local Fire Department and the Ambulance Director." Victoria recently finished her first half marathon and is training for a full marathon. When asked how Southeastern has prepared her for what she does now, Victoria says, "The heavy focus on notfor-profit accounting has been instrumental in my ability to do my job.

In addition to the practical knowledge I learned in the classroom, I was always encouraged to be myself and pursue the things that make me special. Those pursuits have proved fruitful and have been helpful in ways I never imagined. The friendships I formed while at SEU have carried me through the struggles of postcollege life and I will always be grateful for the atmosphere of family I felt at SEU." Victoria's favorite memories include the the friends and mentors that helped her through heavy times. She speaks of one example saying, "My time at SEU was not without difficulties. A lot of my testimony was built in the 4.5 years I spent on campus. I would not be where I am without the support of Dr. Chris Fairchild. From the countless hours spent balancing my course needs to meet all of my degree requirements to being there for me when my sister passed away, Dr. Fairchild was far more than a professor to me. He is someone I consider a friend, and I will always be thankful for his support." Victoria spends a lot of time doing outside ministry with the community and provides support for those struggling with poverty. "I have a heart for financial literacy and helping end the struggles of poverty." Victoria strives to live out her calling in the Lord through every area of her life.
