In this issue of Southeast Ohio, our staff ventured back out into the world after a year and a half of the coronavirus pandemic. It was a lot of fun to get to work with this year’s reporters to showcase the people and places of this region – even if continued mask mandates mean that I’m still not quite sure what the bottom of everyone’s face looks like.
In a time of near-constant adjustment and uncertainty, we highlighted some organizations and initiatives creating positive change, such as the new Athens Asian American Alliance and recycling projects funded by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. At the same time, we also tried to get back to the roots of what makes Southeast Ohio special by highlighting the history preserved at places such as the home of the man who led Ohio to statehood and the communities of the Little Cities of Black Diamonds (#).
