Taking care of our Earth!

Let's take care of our Earth home! Here are some easy things you can do to help!

Become a "Water Detective"!

The water we drink and use to bathe is "freshwater" from lakes and rivers. This is different from saltwater found in oceans. The Earth doesn't have a lot of freshwater, so let's save every drop!

- Look for dripping taps! If you see one, turn it off. If it keeps dripping, ask a grownup to fix it.

- Save water when you brush your teeth -- switch off the water until you need to rinse.

- Re-use leftover water in bottles and cups to water the plants or give to pets!

Be a "Power Star!"

When power plants make electricity, chemicals are released into the air that are bad for us to breathe. You can help keep the air clean by using LESS electricity!

Switch off lights and the TV when you are not using them!

Don't leave the refrigerator door open -- cold air will escape!

Be a "Trash Blaster!"

Birds and animals can choke on plastic. If you see trash outside, use a "grabber" or a pair of rubber gloves to pick it up and put it in the trash can.

You can also make less trash by reusing stuff you usually throw away!

- Draw on the backs of old worksheets and papers.

- Empty yoghurt cups are good for storing crayons and beads!

- Stick "googly" eyes on paper towel rolls to make funny faces!

- Old shoeboxes make great beds for small stuffed animals!

Make Friends with Bees!

All bugs have important jobs, especially bees! Bees spread pollen and help us grow fruits and vegetables. Bees also give us honey!

So, don't squish bees, and tell your friends and family not to hurt them, either. Bees and wasps only sting if they are in danger. When you see one, stay calm and move slowly away.

Some bees have little "baskets" on their legs to store pollen.
